nice work, the skins look a little washed out, or is that just your gfx settings?
also if i install this will it mess with any other mods? I'm a little reluctant after having to sort out my UT2004 after the skaarj pack.
Its a shame because i'd very much like to be able to use those skaarj models.. :(

I seemed to have screwed up on the UPL. For the first soldier I put an entry for a karma ragdoll that I didnt include, but heres what you can do to fix that:

It's the map's lighting that causes that.

also engine is there a place i can talk to you, instant messenger/irc, somewhere real time?

I believe the Chaos people are blocking custom UT models as they tend to not work with their custom animation system for Duel.

i can join chaos games with all manner of other custom models installed, including ones that screw up duel completely..
I can even use them in game.

Plus the model works fine in duel, as long as they dont use custom skeletons custom models are fine.

Id still like to talk to you about another issue someplace :)


edit:

just tested it online outside of chaos, doesnt work with normal UT either..

:'( its a shame the models dont work online, the XMP models are just awesome and i've been waiting for them for a long time

weeeeeeeeeeeee, copy the upl from C:\ut2004\system\FORSERVERONLY\ into your main ut2004 system directory and they all work online :)

Dag, I go to sleep for a few hours and BAM! new killer models! :D Looks great man ... once again you deliver great models to the community pretty quickly after they've been discussed. I wish more Model creators were like you. Next time I'll just have to stay up for 72 straight hours and I'll be the first to grab your models ... boy was I late to this party. Peace.:)

This looks like great stuff, man. Unfortunately, I play online a lot, and I'm reluctant to install anything that's going to break online compatibility. :(

Is there any chance of you releasing a set of alternate .upl files for online use that don't use the custom species? (That was the way Hide worked around the online compatibility issue with models using custom species for his LittleEris model.) I'm not sure if that would work in this case, but I thought it was worth suggesting.

Hope you manage to get the online thing sorted soon--I'd love to be able to use these in-game! :)

I thought I put in the readme about those.
You can overwrite them or not, thats up to you. If you have the U2Skaarj you already have them(they share these files).
Anyway, for a "fix" no I don't have one. But try the UPL code I posted earlier to see if that works.

For everyone saying anythingf regarding "Break online compatability", PLEASE read through the posts about this, and not just on the first and last pages of the thread! There are fixes on the Skaarj deal in (At least) the beta thread for it, and most likely in the full release thread as well.

It has to do with custom species. All you have to do, is change the species from U2Skaarj to something else, like Merc or Alien. Specific files and lines are available, just search.

EE, just finished getting U2Skaarj all setup on the server, so we're going to be waiting another week to get all of these done - Will let you know how it goes then.

Well I'm not perfect, and I sometimes screw up pretty bad.
The soldier's UPL is one example of screwing up bigtime, but to fix that problem I'm reuploading a new copy of the zip to UT2003HQ, but if you don't want to re-download it thats ok I will still help you guys with what I did wrong. I will post a link to the UPL in a few minutes after I get it on a public website.

Also EE, iv downloaded your halo master chief model again (windows deleted itself again, had to reformat completely) and now its missing the textures or something, because it is showing up as a question mark. Iv got both the original and the metalic version (nice job btw) and it wont work. the original one does not include a texture folder.

Hmm the Halo guy should have the textures bundled into its animation package. Can't just reinstalling the character solve this?

I appreciate you converting over the the Unreal 2 models EvilEngine. :) However, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, I think there is some unintended behavior with the statistics of the new species class that you defined. Playing as the U2Soldier5 model with the Species Statistics mutator enabled, I noticed that I was endowed with insane advantages. I ran faster than the DOOM marine, had better air control than the Quake 1 soldier, and could leap like the Hulk which actually caused falling damage when I landed. This isn't really a major problem, but it does create some very nasty bots. ;p

Ah, fixed now, turns out the animation file was curupted some how after i downloaded it, so it wouldnt extract. so i disabled flashget temperarely, and redownloaded it.
Also, how do you get everything to be bundled with the animations? i thought that was only doable with a .u file

Again, AMAZING job with everything youv done in the past few days, i see you havent lost your touch, you just get better and better.

No theres no problems with the species, I just copied over some files from my U2Skaarj folder when making these guys and never changed the core settings.
My bad.
Just dont use a species mutator , or reset thier settings to more "human" standards.

Nope, no anti TCC utsecure or any of that stuff. I've used custom models on it before (Glumpf and bender) I haven't tried any other servers except a clan server, I had no problems there.

It's a shame that UT200x doesn't allow custom species in online play, but that's the way it is. Epic must be aware of the issue at this point and has not fixed it, so I wouldn't hold your breath that they will anytime soon.

To overcome the issue so that you can use custom species models online, one must remove the references to the custom species in the UPL file and lose all the cool pain sounds or custom gibs and blood or other effects. With some models the loss is really hurtful, like Sweet tooth, it loses the whole flaming head effect, and, with other models, it's hardly noticable at all, like Mollock, I don't miss his purple blood much at all.

I used the following for c:\UT2004\System\U2Soldier.upl sucessfully online. (i.e., I switched to the standard xGame.SPECIES_Jugg species).

EE these are great models ... the only problem is the death animations of the U2 Soldiers. I believe you addressed this with a new upl but that link is broken and I really don't want to dl that big file again so could you just post what the upl for the incorrect ragdolls (should only be 5) should read and I can alter the upl file myself. Thanks and keep up the excellent work ... I really love how much variety your player packs have ... really wonderful stuff my man. Peace :D .

I think this is a sort of "Hot Linking" issue that I have encountered before with the geocities links.

There's several ways to beat it but the easiest is to just open a blank browser window and paste the link into the address bar and hit ENTER. I use Opera as my browser and dunno if it is different in other browsers.

Another way is to just click the link like you did originally, then when the error page comes up, the link to the zip should be in your browser's address bar. Just place your cursor at the end of the link in the address bar and hit Enter.

Hope it works for you.

Yeah, but that isn't Atari's call...

Someone from Epic said that using the assets from other Unreal series games (PC only I believe) in UT2004 mods is ok.

Its somewhere in the Free-Monkey UTXMP announcement thread in Gen. Discussion.

UT2k4 v3236 refuses to show the characters in the options->player screen.
I don't see them in the game either (it defaults to the standard UT2k4 soldier-model).

It's weird considering that the files and textures are correct.
Perhaps there's a hidden dependency on the USkaarj2-modelpack ???

Damn ... I found the bug ... and it's my own installer that caused it.
Apparently the dependency on the staticmeshes used was enough for UT2k4 to think the models couldn't be displayed at all.

I guess I need to fix that bit in my botmanager ...

there are no fallback-textures defined for the shaders/finalblends.
As a result some cards may have problems with these models/skins.

Seems that, at least on my system, the models that look like Dalton from U2 don't want to ragdoll at all. You kill them and they (or what's left of them) freeze in place.

Also, my other big issue is with the structuring of the skins. Is it really necessary to have seperate characters for the red/blue variants of all of these skins? Can't they be condensed down to having a base skin with red/blue teamskins (which can be changed to red/blue in non-team gametypes at the whim of the player)? Probably just a nitpick on my part, but it bothers me, I dunno why. :)

The custom gibs and such are awesome. I love watching these guys go boom from a flak shell...

All in all, excellent job!

Theres been a new re-upload of the models that fix that ragdoll bug, or you can download the seperate UPL zip instead.
The skins all needed thier own red and blue becuase I have red and blue skins selectable.
One of the big complaints was that each selectable skin didnt have it's teamskin mate. SO, to resolve this I had to make each red and blue have a red and blue oppposite, as well as every other color.
Didn't really add much to the UTX size, but just is a pain in the A$$ to make.

Yes that is my fault becuase of the time contraints, and will be updated ASAP. I have tested pretty much 90% of all these models on older Geforce2, Geforce3 and all the current Radeon and newer Nvidia vgas and there were no visual bugs. If there are, please post them so I may make a note of thier settings and make a replacement.

Talon, since this is obviously a major issue with many people, maybe a zip can be provided with the fixes for both new model packs?

I know 99% of my 2004 gameplay is online, and I just don't install anything that breaks it.

The rest of the clan is the same way. We have played online for years now, and just ignore anything that does not work online, or creates issues with it.

It's provided in the Marines pack. The FORSERVERSONLY, or whatever it's called, can't remember off the top of my head. With the Skaarj, the very easy step by step fix is provided inside the U2Skaarj thread. Basicly, it involves opening up the u2skaarj.upl, and changing their species to merc.

Well if you edit the Soldier's upl it will only effect those models. Not anything else.

I'm sorry if this is mondane, but I still havn't been able to play online with either the new .upl or the modified model zip. I read through most of the thread, I might have missed something, but I'm not sure. I would modify the upl by myself, if I knew what I was doing. Thanks very much. Although I was kinda confused on which U2Soldier.upl to modify but I figured it out, its the one in the system folder not /system/FORSERVERSONLY/. I believe that the one in the FORSERVERSONLY directory was to be copied to the system folder, and then it should have worked. Well, now I know, and thanks for helping me out. I love the models and they are workig online, even with TCC enabled on the server. Although I did encounter one time that the skin was a problem, but other than that everything was fine. The skin is showing up as blank and shows up as Jakob in game as well. I really like these models, is there anyway to fix it?

After playing with your latest construction all I can say is wow. Though I found some bugs, I think, so here we go. If you use the Monkey Matrix mutator there are the following problems: no gray trailing on movement(or a 5sec per 30min of play when it occurs), no bullet trailing(same as before), and a bit of jugging when used with the new skins. I have though had 2 CRASHES- one when I used deployably fun to fire 100 grenades in the water pool at whats its(the water pool with the rocket launcher surrounded by health and ammo, its a standard one) and then went to set them off. The computer made dump crash-v3236 file in the systems file section. The other crash was in Gestalt and I had the matrix on and firing flak. Now this is with UT2004RPGv1.2a(all abilities(I have max ultima not ghost), 11000hp, 8500damage bonus, 1000 weapon speed, and all the other stats around 5000), deployable fun, quad jump, arkon shields, and MM2004. The first was in DM and the second in SSI(it rocks). Next I hop on and do some more playing(i have the special soldier upl in use in SSI) before I decide to go online and put in the U2Skaarj.upl that you had made up and the servers only U2Soldier's upl and try to hop on to the fragilicious frenzy server(onslaught). Lo and behold the U2Skaarj.ukx bug returns :cry: . I've done everything you're supposed and it still comes back. Well I plan on removing the .ukx and just havig to remove/insert+replace the ukx/upl files that are causing problems. Also I had used the allammo code and god a couple times and had the magic weapon generator set to 1. Hope some can put this info to good work so in the future everything can get along nicely. If you need more info I'll see what I can do. Also how do you get pictures from in-game moments? Just wonderin'.

My online fix is removing the U2Skaarj.ukx and replacing the soldier upl with the server variant. Oh and a quick qusetion, sometimes I find that after I use dual assault rifles my right hand will change to the new weapon were as my left hand will still hold the assault rifle(this happens definitely with the gunner variant). Is this normal or what? Just wonderin'.

I just noticed when looking in the UPL file that the XMP models (Gunner, Tech, Rnager) don't have "Skeleton=" in their entries. Should we add something like "Skeleton=U2Soldier.Skeleton" or something to these?

I've noticed while playing that sometimes I don't get a skeleton when Link Gun Alt-killing some of these models, so I was wondering if it was due to this or the models that had the wrong Ragdoll set.

Oh thanks for bringing that to my attention(adds it to the update list). Yeh you can use the standard skeleton that comes with Ut2004 if you want. All you need to do is this:


Skeleton=HumanMaleA.SkeletonMale

No, becuase I can't get those models. Unless someone wants to re-create them.

As for the skeleton thing up above, you can also use:


Skeleton=U2Soldier.Skeleton


So you don't have to force the game to load up a mesh from another animation package, this way keeping things much quicker for loadtimes.

The skeleton in the U2soldiers pack has pretty bloodstains all over it, so go for that one :)

As for the meshes, look in the U2skaarj thread(I just posted it) for my comments on that. I think the whole community should start speaking up about all these different Unreal games from so many different developers. Now we have to deal with Midway.
Hopefully they don't have a GOLEM of thier own.

There were problems before with the animations IIRC that wouldn't allow them to be used online. Can someone confirm to me that they've been fixed?

There was an update that gave 2 .upls. Look in them and name one(the one with the custom species) NonS(erver)U2Soliders and Name the Other S(erver)U2Soldiers. Use Nons for offline and S for online. Thats what I do.

The online upl turns the soldier characters into jakobs in IA and Online. Its cause of custom species bull**** that epic doesn't have a fix for.

Well, like the previous poster asked, does the species say "Species_Merc"?
If you are using the UPL I supplied in "serversonly" folder it should work, as it has for everyone else. I hope you didn't add it and the normal UPL in the "system" directory at the same time, because you will get errors that way too.

Now if you are using the upl I included for online play, and still are getting issues, let me know and send me your ut2004.log so I can check out whats up.

Okay People!

First of all. Really great work on those models! Very neat!
But i can't get it online. I've read this whole thread about 4 times, i changed the upl towards all suggestions i could find here, always swaped the upl file with the one from FORSERVERSONLY, and so on .. i also tried the Skaarj Thread, but they are far from my topic. Now the whole thing even made me sign up on this forum to ask for help.

Ok, now i have the latest, here posted, UPL with another species.
I can play using the model against Bots, and Bots play with them aswell, the skeleton thing is also no problem (as mentioned..) no errors offline at all. well done.. BUT:

What can i do about the "Incompatible Game Files!"-thing on that U2Soldier.ukx when i try to join a server ?

I'm really lost, and i got that far, tried so much, that i simply dont want to give up now! Please help us all, and give us the final help/fix/advise to get rid of that error message. Something like: To avoid getting "Incompatible Game Files" Error message do this and that .. im missing this thruought the whole discussion, only some slight description from which i dont even know if they really adress my problem. For short.. i tried them all.

Plz. Im dying here. Thanks in advance!

Because, and this was covered thoroughly in both the U2Skaarj and the U2Soldier threads, Epic won't allow custom server packages and that's how EE managed all the great things like custom gibs. For an online solution, read the U2Skaarj thread.

As for the ragdoll I thought I posted a link to the fix in this thread.
All it was is a upl fix. Just make sure all the first set of u2soldiers have "Ragdoll=U2Soldier" in thier entry.

Question: How many of these models use shaders instead of flat skins?

edt: Also, evil, is there a place for new DL's? The patch is dead and the main file has been taken off hotlinking.

Question: How many of these models use shaders instead of flat skins?

I used merc as an example. And its not xgame, its :
"species=U2Soldier.SPECIES_U2S1" since theres no such thing as U2S1 in the xgame .U system file.

(In case it easy to explain: How hard is it to create the *.u files? I've got some skins I would like to put on the server,. but they dont have the u files :( )

Well I made this model pack before the "push" concept took off.
Theres a tutorial at the UDN website on how to do it, as I never did it personally.
As for the stormtroopers rifle, its being made now. A much more realistic version and with some very nifty visual fx.
I'll have screenshots soon for it , in its own thread.

You can see it as a pick from where it has replaced other weapons and you can see enaimes carrying it and it fires like it should, but you don't see it in first person?

Can you please tell me what is happening? I really want to see the gun!

Problem is your probably using the small weapons view option(Epic you guys need to remove this).
Since I pretty much made that setting identical to the normal view in the new DP gun mutator that should be fixed. Not sure if i uploaded it yet for public use becuase it was being beta tested by a friend . If you want it, just PM me and Ill hook you up with it and some other non-public goodies.
As for the downloads on my webpage, the links are dead until i get all the models uploaded. Which will be soon.

This has been addressed several times before. If I recall correctly the models that are used are originally static meshes in Unreal 2. All the game models that aren't converted are stored as GOLEM meshes (Legend's custom modeling system for Unreal 2), which isn't compatible with UT200X.

Someone made a Blender script to convert (or at least) extract the GOLEM meshes into something more useful, and posted a screenshot of a Heavy Liandri Angel running around in UT2004, but nothing else has been done since then, which is a shame.

Whoa I never knew someone achieved that yet. Its not like I tried either, as Epic and Legend never responded to my emails concerning releasing the source code for Golem. Even the guy running the Golem university site who said this is possible to create plugins never helped me either. If you can get me in contact with this person maybe we can work on getting these missing models working in an expansion pack.

Where the hell can I find the skinpack with updated/fixed ragdolls?! I'm getting increasingly frustrated here.

Well, these are included in Unreal Tournament 2 Conversion. Also there are Skaarj there. I just need to figure out how to extract those.
By the way, I'm in the middle of making a working and balanced Unreal II weapons mod. Will fit the mood there. Although having a Dispersion Pistol would be neat, as well as a Singularity Cannon.

Something kinda strange, but if Species Statistics is active, the soldiers in the pack move extremely fast.

If you set the species to be XGame.SPECIES_Merc, the speed normalises. Basically that's what changes in the servers' UPL. Don't see anything bad with using that version (I'm not using a skin for my character tho).

I've assembled a separate UPL for those who have the Species Stats mutators on. This will make the troops just like in Unreal II: the heavy ones are slower, lighter ones are faster. Also, given unique names so it sounds better than just "soldier12red". And now when you open the config window, you can see their actual status ("Marine", "Ghost warrior" etc.) instead of the default "mercenary".
Just back up your U2Soldier.upl and edit the old one with Notepad. Replace everything with these lines:
