View Full Version : [PICS] Riddick

Name: Riddick
Version: WIP
Compatibility: UT2k4/CUT2004
Description: It's a model of Riddick, originally made to be used in half-life, but it was never skinned properly, this version is now a WIP again, and is going to be brought up to UT2k4 standards.
Comments: This is NOT my model, I'm posting it here for a friend

Credits: Rendar
Like I said up there, this isn't my model, I'm posting it here for a friend that doesn't have an account.
This screenshot is the version that was gonna be released for Half-Life, and currently has about 3000 polygons, the UT version will be higher poly, around 5000 or so (shouldn't be too much, I don't know UT's limits, but most half-life machines could handle it).
We're looking for a UV mesher and a skinner, so post here if you're willing to do either.

current ut models are somewhere around 2000-3000 polys iirc...
looks pretty sweet though...I would loose some polys around the glasses and put some more on the arms...

Yeah, the arms will be completley re-modelled, don't worry.
Are you sure about the models being 2000-3000 polies? Because most of the custom ones I've seen have been c. 5000, and the defaults are more than 2000, I'm sure.

its cool, but he doesn't feel like a warrior, more like a geek. :noob:
Beef up his chest and arms, and i could see this as a must-Download :D

Yeah, the reason it's like that is because of half-life's skeleton, it's really lame and causes deformation if anything is more than slightly different than the default models, and we really didn't feel like re-animating every single one of the 182 different animations for the mod this was going to be released on (The specialists).
Don't worry, the UT2k4 version will be much more accurate to the movie.

I think the big head on the model is perfect.. Vin doesn't have a tiny nugget.. He's kinda like a muscled-up bobble head anyway. :)
Dicky B (pumpin' his upper body up will make him look more like him, even unskinned, make sure you shiny his eyeballs!)

Yeah, 2000-3000 polys for UT2004. Aim for 2,500 imo though.
Dunno the suggested limit for HL, but no doubt it's lower than 3000.

Default half-life models for mods push 2000 quite a bit. The average weapon model these days is 3500-4000 polygons, 2500 is nothing. I guess UT does alot of things through texture effects and shaders though.

Yeah, this is another case of "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should."
If you can cheat the system and make something look just as good with a lower poly-count using some tricky texturing techniques (such as baked bump/normal maps, shaders, etc) then go for it.
Obviously newer HL models can run better because it's an old engine being run on machines that would have been unheard of back in its day.

Actually, the head is exactly how Vin Diesels head is IRL.

New render, it's been updated, and is even lower poly. It now stands at 3025, opposed to 3150 earlier.

looks good..can't wait to see it skinned...
To me IMO ..Looks like the chin is too long, kinda throws the look off, could just be cause it isn't skinned though.

No offense, but the anatomy is entirely off.

Take a look at the UT models. Almost all of them are mis-proportionate. I'll get a render next to the reference used for the anatomy, I can guarantee you it isn't entirely off.

There ya go, it's not totally exact, but it's not really off, just different. It's the same thing except shorter, with a slightly larger head, and more buffed up.

The first render makes me think of Mr Freeze (http://www.batmantas.com/img/freeze3.jpg) but the last render is much better :)
Riddick was the "hero" of Pitch Black (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0134847/) : Chronicles of Riddick is just a "let's make money with Vin" sequel (prequel ?) to that film

Sequel, and Chronicles was actually pretty good, IMO atleast. Would make a great mod concept really.

Heh. I'm not totally sure on the progress right now.. haven't talked to Rendar about it yet. My guess is somewhere around final release.

The feet seems to be a bit small. And more muscles, please :D .

A foot is the length of a forearm. Do with that what you will.

We'll try, but no skinners have replied here... so I guess it's up to me and Rendar to skin it.

Hey all, thanks for the crits and comments. I made the feet a little larger, reworked his arms some more so he has more definition (this render doesnt show it too well though, will post a better one soon), reworked the lines on the chest so that he now has his tank top modeled in :). anyways here you go

The feet look small, and it appears you've got his pants on backwards..:D
But other than that, it looks great (733t).;)

I don't see nothing wrong with his head.

Trust me guys, I've done test compiles of the early versions of the model for other games, the feet and neck are perfect. The feet are the length of his forearm, so they fit exactly how they're supposed to. This should be getting meshed and skinned really soon... I'm guessing a release would be possible within a week's time, not totally sure though. I'll have Rendar come and give you his stance on the progress when he gets home.

I assure you the feet are good, if anything there are slightly large for the rest of his body when at looked at from a good angle. And about his neck, mind you he is modeled looking slightly down, Put your head down and look in the mirror, you wont see much of your neck. Im gonna start skinning this soon so well see how that goes, unless a real skinner wants to do this, then it will get done sooner
