Name: Interceptor
Version: Really early
Compatibility: UT2k4
Description: Fast little buggy.
Comments: Really fast and I thought it could have a link-gun turret but have a really low health. I'm definatly looking for someone to texture it.

Way cool. At last, a vehicle that doesn't try to be scary-looking. Love it. Be sure to give it a really good horn sound!

Neato. I even like the skin as it is now :) Maybe a see through windshield, but that's about it :) Reminds me of the Beetle.

looks fun
though low health isnt a good idea, because if you drive fast, then the turns will take a lot of time to actually occur, and thus causing more hits at walls.
around 500 health should be appropriate.

Hopefully cheese can give u a hand with the coding aspect I think he's busy ATM, (with you, I believe) I can do it, I just haven't got time. I keep making more vehicles and they just sit around un-coded (I made this about a month ago) I'm quite happy to help the coder if they need it though.
Reminds me of the Beetle. As in VW?
around 500 health should be appropriate Well, it does have a link-gun turret so to get round the 'unlimited node healing' thing I gave it a low health so it wouldn't last too long. Maybe a bit more but not that high, less than or equal to a Manta?

I think you should give it atleast 200 health, 75 can be taken out in roughly two seconds by your basic foot soldier.
If you have this meshed, I'd be glad to try my hand at skinning it. I really don't know too much about skinning for the UT2k4, but if the maps are decent, I can probably give it a decent skin.

I'll try and get it UVed and post the map for NE1 that wants to texture it, don't know when though.

Awesome model. There are a few maps about that are calling for toony vehicles like this. Very cool. But the texture could be a realistic texture and it'd still be totally mad! I'm keeping my eyes on this.

how advanced is the required code
i can do simple stuff like getting it in game simple weapons nothing fancy thought so if you just won't a scopian like vehicle with a link gun on top i could help

the best vehicle you have made that is "un-edited" when you put up render on the board =), all your other vehicles are great... but they didn't start that way.. like this =D
EDIT: maybe if you make the things between wheels & vehicles LONGER, så that you could drive on the ceiling
and when you are on the ceiling, your ...thing you are in.. would turn around. therefore longer.. things between wheel and vehicles...
not sure if you understand me though... coz i can't explain this better than sucky ==/

Thanks everyone
When I finally get round to sending him the files, ufo hunter is gonna have a crack at coding it.
Yes Kaw-G, I understand fully what you are trying to say, and no, it's not happening. How many indoor ONS maps are there? (plus u'd be driving backwards when the body turned round :p)
Just checked poly count: 1984 magic trianles, I can get it lower though .

I like the job you did with this one, it's a step up from other things you've done (I am NOT a newbie), and I like it. It reminds of of Final Fantasy the Spirits Within, where the vehicle they used had a shield around it. Might be a good alt fire for the link turret you're using. I hope you can get to using the right code, this thing doesnt look right without a good link beam that heals. I read about someone using an automatic healing link gun that fired on AI outside of bots or humans. I hope you'll get far with this, I like it!

1. UV mapping this is gonna be fuuuuun :sour:.
2. Coding the alt-link fire is gonna be fuuuuun :sour: (although if you look at the link gun code the fire and alt-fire is swopped round :bulb: )I can't even make the AR fire it, all I get is a green glow :weird:.

Yes, thank you for that :weird:
Small update in first post, just sorted out the smoothing groups because the dark patches were bugging me (also added some 'sticky in' bits at the back for the brake lights, but obviously you can't see them :p.

If it's a maya file (and it's not a big mess, haha) I offer UV map it.
Unless you want practise. Which is always good. That's how I learnt.
People usually complain if the modeller doesn't UV Map their own stuff and just hands it off to a texture artist to do, so it's a good thing to learn, but I don't mind there being a middle man in the process.

Nope, 3DS MAX, sorry. I'm pretty sure if I stick at it I'll get it done. Just waiting for NE suggestions on the modelling side before I start though.

*Thinks to himself:* This would be a blast with the Epic's mut "Stunt Vehicles"!!

Looks good.
If you're gonna have it with low health, then at least make the Link turret faster than normal. Because the normal shooting is way too slow.
I like the idea a lot though, it's kind of like an alternative to walking but much faster. It could be used to drive around the battlefield quickly and heal vehicles or nodes.
Keep up the good work.

Every time I open this thread I can never work out which car I'm looking at. The name interceptor gives me this image of a really mad slick car that has farkloads of guns mounted on it, then I go back to the first page and remember which one it is. I refer to this one in my mind as "the bubble car".
Hows it coming?
legacy-Pyrotechnic
07-10-2004, 01:20 PM
Pretty slowly ATM, TBH I haven't touched it again yet. I don't really have much time right now, I'll get round to it some time though.

I'll get round to it some time thoughAnd here (http://www.pyrotechnic.hostultra.com/unreal/Interceptor.zip) it is!.
Not much atm, has a mut to replace the scorpion. It is pretty hard to get into though, I have to park a Hellbender next to it and jump on top :bulb:. It skids a lot, just let go of the acceleration whilst cornering and u'll be fine ;).
Oh, just remembered the light's aren't in the right place. I'll fix it for the next update.

03-24-2005, 07:02 PM
nice, it skids a little bit, and you need to fix the view, i cant shoot infront of me without being obstructed by the vehicles butt. other than that its a great vehicle. i like how the vehicle grips the ground alot. you can climb that steep valley in the middle of torlan.

Sorry to bring this thread up and look like a lurker, but:
Pyro, have you finished this vehicle yet? Because, I came up with an idea for a mod-vehicle (here (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=6663520#post6663520)) and was wondering whether you might consider integrating your vehicle design with my idea. I know that i'm crap at modelling, and when i was thinking of vehicle designs, one came close to yours (a nuclear core with wheels) and i remembered it.
Good idea or no?

It's still a WIP atm, probably will be for a while. If you can code, or you find someone who will, feel free to use the mesh.
