No its not the skins not final I still have to fix some parts. Mainly the legs. Also Im working on weapons. Im doing some hover sheilds, a beam sword, and a grenade launcher. Plus Im thinking about shoulder mounted weapons

Cool I just love, humanoid mech types. As seen in robotech or gundam or many others.

Make sure you have Team Skins when you release it. ;)

Bugger team skins... well not completely, but this would be a wicked vehicle. Your model is pretty mad. I see what you mean about not the final texture but it's a good start. Look forward to this one.

Why do people say 'mecha'? That 'a' makes the word so annoying. Its MECH or mechanized or whatever. But don't say mecha, it gives the suits a richard simmons quality.

This model looks pretty good, but are you aware that UT cant use Nurb Surface Models?

You never said you used nurbs, but some of the face errors in the model are only present in nurbs objects.

LOOKS GOOD, THE SMOOTHNESS OF THE OVERALL DESIGN IS THROWN OFF BY THE LEGS THOUGH.
MAYBE MAKE THE LEGS A TEAR-DROP(ISH) SHAPED CYLINDER WITH THE POINT FACING FORWARD.
ALSO NEEDS HANDS OR SOME WAY TO HOLD WEAPONS CONVINCINGLY.
IS THAT A TAIL? IF SO I THINK IT WOULD LOOK BETTER TURNED UP AND WITH A SMOOTH ARC.

cuzz, mechs are normaly vec like in Armored Core, but in robotech i think they're like human sized right (i dunno' i've never really seen it)?

i'm so confused

edit- n/m i'm such a nimrod

legacy-Erebus

In robotech they are vehicles. Ah... transforming fighter planes, 60 foot aliens, 80's dialouge. *sigh* there will never be a show like it.

p.s. Im a huge Robotech fan, ironic how i cant stand any other anime.

 :)
Reminds me of one of the Inbit mechs from Genesis Climber MOSPEADA/Robotech: The New Generation. Take a look on this page (http://members.optusnet.com.au/~cyc01/gamo.htm) to see what I mean.

Man, I'd really like to see a mech-based mod for this game.

whats the polycount?

legacy-MonstroRiveter
07-07-2004, 09:25 PM
Ok heres a little update. I just got a partner for this project and as of now im going to make a mech vehicle.

Im thinking of doing something like this
http://img13.photobucket.com/albums/v39/Thegaminglegend/shock-trooper.gif

Thanks Lopar for that link, and Ive decided to try another mech .The mech would be a heavy walker and perhaps two players could use it and Id skin it to match the other vehicles in UT2k4. Id also like some suggestions of what i should do next and what weapons it would have.Think of the Leviathan with jumpjets and heavy rockets.

If you guys think I should stick to the Grane model, I can but I dont think it would work well in UT. Tell me what you think.

As for the polycount i cant tell you since Im away from my computer.

legacy-ThePrimal
07-07-2004, 09:58 PM
don't make it 2 person, cuzz people will just walk off without a teamate or end up waiting for on (like in the hellbender), unreal and teamwork just don't mix too well

as for weps, well i really like the levi cannon but it would toss blance out the window, but it's rockets in normal mode could make for a good wep along with some laser cannons or even beams like the 2nd on link gun((without the heal stuff)

legacy-MonstroRiveter

Ok Its not going to be a two person vehicle. Im thinking about doing missles and manta weapons. Another thing Id like input on is the scale.Should I make it to scale like in the pic or make it bigger or smaller

IMHO the first one is truly amazing ... even the legs once you do the texturing. That Bad Boy rules and if done correctly would pose a challenge to SkullboX's Maggie and Effigy! The only reason it would be better suited as a "Special" Vehicle is because it is too large for the sitting animation necessary to play ONS, VCTF, VDM, and AS maps.

The second one looks like you were trying to please some people and not yourself. If you have a great model that people like and that you totally dig it may be best to use that one. Maybe you could introduce the second one into the game at a later date. I just think that since the second one shows some color (which I'm not sure actually works in an ONS and AS setting ... but I know that is just me and you did say you would skin it differently) it may make the first look bland so why not add a quick skin and them compare the two of them ... if you need to. That first one is simply awesome!!! :D And something about it makes it look like it would fit it better as a vehicle than the second one. Whatever you do please make it a one person machine ... IA playing lags when you have to wait for a bot to jump in to provide the firepower. Peace. :)

People say 'mecha' because it's the Japanese shorthand word for those types of giant robots/powered armor suits, and the Japanese have done more with that particular genre than anyone else. It's not 'MECH or mechanized or whatever', and if anything's annoying, it's people insisting that mecha should be called 'mechs', a la Battletech. And it's even more annoying when you happen to know that FASA ripped off a bunch of mecha designs from various anime (Dougram, Macross, etc.) without crediting the creators, renamed them, and called them 'mechs' in the original Battletech tabletop wargame, which was what popularized calling them 'mechs' here in the first place. (IIRC, the Japanese owners of the IP's involved threatened to sue, and FASA eventually negotiated a settlement) :p

I like designs like this much better

Robots that are just about 2 - 3 times as large as a person, that can hold weapons and can move at a decent speed are a lot cooler than super large mechs that don't look humanoid anymore IMO.

If u can make one of those then you can give the mech a gun that has the same type of fire as a minigun turret. So basically it'll be a walking minigun turret that doesnt have too many hp (about 350 - 450), and has decent movement speed.

That would make a balanced unit, it would be very good vs infantry, decent vs mantas and raptors but suck vs tanks, scorps and benders.

Thats preety damn big! maybe half that size, because it would tower ofer 2 levis:bulb:

legacy-Pyrotechnic

No it wouldn't, I reckon it'd be about the same height as a deployed levi.

In english mech is short for mechanical, so you can say either "mecha" or "mech".

There are a few people who would really like the Matrix mech.
I would 'cause I'm working on the Zion Docking Bays, although not much has actually been done on my behalf yet.

What happened? you started out with a cool Robocop looking pure bot (the Ed units I think) that was awesome and now this is going to be just another giant robot? Well do want you want ... but I was looking forward to the first one. I'm not interested in more Humanoid looking Robots. Good luck though and if you do go back to first design and decide to release it please let me know ... I would really like that one. Peace :) .

AAHH yes the Invid Shock Trooper, this would be totaly sweet to play with in UT2k4. Being a long time Robotech fan I've been waiting for some one to make vechicles from Robotech since UT in fact the only reason I bought Quake3 is because I saw that some modlers had made very good models of Scott in transformed Cyclone armor and a transformed VF-1 Veritech over at Polycount
If Robotech fans with the skills to modle, code and texture would come together and make a mod I'm sure it would be an instant hit and very popular or at least I'd play the heck out of it heh =)

Good work bro you have all the Robotech fans here drooling heh I cant wait to see how this turns out.
