Yeah, completely singleplayer for now. 2 seperate paths, different weaponry and story, but some of the levels will play like the invasion gametype. :)

Great to see that someone is recogniizing the fact that there are plenty of us out in UT land who don't play online or on LANS! This looks and sounds like it's going to be a great mod ... I loved Infection and have been waiting for this great mod called Out of Hell for what seems forever ... oh yeah I remember when you first announced this ... I've been having nightmare (good ones though :weird: ) ever since :D!. Horror and this great engine seem like it will be a great fit. Hope the player has the chance to chop off a zombie's head with the rotors of a helicopter like in the original "Dawn of the Dead". Talk about Unreal ;)!
Whenever (and of course "if") you need beta testers ... or even alpha ones please let me know ... This is the kinda project I could really sink my teeth into. Especially if you can have both an ONS and AS type levels woven within the game. I remember that at first it was only going to have one path and was only for UT2K3. Now that the engine has solid vehicle code/support maybe a couple of the levels could be ported over to something like AS and ONS maps. I know a very talented mapper that may be willing to lend his talents to your team if you are intertested. Peace.
BTW: Are you still doing this whole thing by yourself? I remember at one point your faq said that you didn't need any mappers, skinners, testers, etc.

That's fine ... I hope you didn't get the wrong idea ... I am salivating!! I just wasn't sure how far you had gotten with the project. I must admit that it is amazing to me that one person could take on such a huge project, stick with it, and produce good solid content! You are truly unique. EA, Activision, Atari, Valve, and the other big names will be falling over eachother to get you ... you can code as well (awesome stuff!) Normally I would be all for the early release of models that will be in a mod, but this mod looks to be every bit as retaill quality level as Troopers, RO, JWF, FragOPs, Chaos, and a lot of other solid mods (if not more so). To treat them as just standalone models wouldn't be right or fair to the creator and lone architect of such an excellent TC. So in this case I strongly feel the community should just wait and treat this as a Christmas gift (non-religious, just in the spirit of giving). Sometimes it's nice to be full of anticipation for a good thing ... this is one of those times ... IMHO. Peace :D !

I know you can't be serious!! Don't stop ... there aren't enough horror based mods as it is ... in fact for UT2K4 Out of Hell is it. And the only thing that comes close is the Nightmare Skeletons (don't get me wrong ... this Mutator ROCKS! but is just a mutator not a TC or even a gametype). So for us horror fans (most of us) the more zombies we get to kill the better. So please forge ahead. There are plenty of us that would be more than happy to lend our talents to your project if necessary :D! Peace and PM me if you really are in need of a tester.

I would like to make a comment about the screenshots on the http://www.outofhellgame.com/ site.
Please use image compression. Those 16bit (or whatever) images should not be bigger than 150k. I find most of them to be over 600k, that really makes browsing annoying. I like to compare images, and its this makes it really bad.
I know it will take time to convert all the old ones, but at least try to compress the new ones. If you have photoshop you know that you can set the JPEG compression. Moreover try saving as png as it sometimes saves more space :)
Thats all the bad I have to say, the rest is all good, I'm sure you've heard it all :D

Most zombies are slow, some zombies are fast, but none of them run. I don't know what it is, but that whole running and jumping over things undead idea really takes away from the whole zombie feeling for me. :) The initial release will be for 2k3, 2k4 will follow shortly after, with perhaps a few improvements. :) As for the release date, not sure just yet. :)

dogs are about 1100, zombies from 1500-1700. I would have made it more but I'd like to have a lot of zombies on screen at once, and I would have made it lower, but my modelling skills leave a lot to be desired, so it just ended up looking like ass. :)

Finally, someone else who understands just what a zombie is. Dead and rotting and little muscle and rigor mortis ... I crack up whe I see Zombies running ... it's funnier than it is scary. Part of the horror of zombies is that even though they move so slow they somehow manage to get you. That is really unnerving. Peace and I'm hanging in there for the full ride for this baby :D !

Nothing should be released seperately in my opinion. Not for a mod this special and of this caliber. Perhaps you can make a small movie as a teaser but I would advise against releasing the creatures so far in advance of the actual mod. Maybe when the mod is a month or less a way you can release one zombie or creatue withT/Cs as a thank you to those that have been patiently waiting. Anyway that's just my take it on this amazing SINGLE PLAYER :D :D :D mod!!!

Oh man I was but I knew what you meant and it wasn't solely for you. I just love emphasizing the fact that this is for SPers first!! You MPers already got Deathball first and another great mod that slips my memory so I am just glad that this was made with the SPer in mind :) . I wasn't cracking on you or anything close ... I don't flame it's not my style. And also if the SP version won't be out for 5-6 months I'm guessing the MP version doesn't have a release schedule yet. As for MP invasion, I have a small lumbermill level (didn't make it into the final level list) that I was going to use as an invasion level, just to test out the weapons and zombies and such. I don't know if I'll release it, but we'll see when we get there. :) I don't have any plans to release any of the models as standalone player models and so far I won't be making it into an MP game. The levels are alright for SP, but it would be way too small for any coop sort of play. DM would be a pain as well, since the levels work like mazes and are too winding for any serious deathmatching. As for puzzle-solving and stuff, there won't be any find an oddly shaped key in some guys flower vase to lower the bridge at the other side of town sort of thing, but there will be small amounts of backtracking. :)

Models look pretty well designed and textured. But I hope the artist used a higher resolution(with detail textures) and some custom features for the gibs and blood decals so we get that nasty, gore alot of us are missing from games nowadays.
Maybe your coder could code in some grey matter when the headgib is shot(ive done this simalar effect for the skaarj) its makes headshots alot more awarding.

:D Yeah, I miss UT's more realistic-looking gibs, with all the scorched bone and bloody rags of flesh. Blood decals were also a lot more... splattery-looking in UT. Not just a big round blot of blood like in UT2k3/4.
But that "gray matter" headshot idea is just wicked! :D:up:

A zombie using a shotgun isnt wierd. They had shotguns in their hands when they turned into zombies, the other zombies just werent lucky enough to have shotguns.
Plus, notice it says 'they lack any sort of accuracy.'

C + R, i wouldn't doubt that i have been following your mod for at least a year and everytime you release new pictures it almost makes me cry with joy. I don't care how long it takes you to finish as long as it is a solid product of all your work, which it is looking to do very much. Keep up the excellent work and i admire you for your determination while not abandoning the project while doing it by yourself for so long.

You know I've been following this project for over a year and have yet to see you stumble ... I was giving you such big props for bringing us a true Zombie mod ....
But I have to tell you that zombies with any type of weapons they can shoot is pretty unbelievable (even for a zombie mod or movie). Zombies would have no use EVER for anything in their hands ... they always have those hands free to grab at their prey. I know you wanted to use ranged weapons for the creatures but remember this is a zombie mod, (zombies can raise a weapon kind of aim it and squeeze the trigger then do this again ... doesn't sound like a zombie at all) once you break away from that then you might as well have zombies that run or fireball-throwing alligator men :rolleyes:.
You could include some mutant beast (not the dogs) that weren't killed but instead turned into horrible beasts that are even more blood thirsty than the zombies and more dangerous since they have much greater mobility. Remember zombies like to eat living flesh and so do Beasts. If they shoot you dead then it defeats the whole purpose. And no, zombies lack any ability to just wound you with the weapon and then through the weapon down and come and eat you. Anyway it's just a suggestion. Peace :) .

Thanks for your suggestions! While I do agree that zombies should have nothing more on their minds than to feed, the zombies in Out Of Hell are a little different. Most of the zombies are mindless, flesh-eating monsters, but, there are some such as the Seekers and The Turned who are controlled by an unseen force. These serve as drones (though dumb) that would aid in the destruction of the city. The zombies in this game are not a result of a virus but reanimated with demon blood, therefore they gain certain demonic qualities; resilience to damage for instance and even decapitation. They are more demonic zombies than human zombies. Some people may not like this, or other certain things about this game because I've stayed away from the more conventional aspects of a zombie game. There will be no headshots, no gibbing, no driveable vehicles. Player health drains slowly but constantly, save for the times the player would find an enemy-free rest zone. This is also the reason why I chose to have more melee weapons than ranged weapons. The reason I did this is that the more power you give the player, the less scared he/she will be. I've ommitted such things as grenades, sniper rifles and machine guns because it's too much power (And the main character being an ordinary guy with no weapons training whatsoever, doubtfull he'd have the will to stay calm and be able to accurately shoot something the size of a cantaloupe marching towards him with several others) Running over zombies, pulling off 10 headshots in 10 seconds is more 'Cool, Amusing and neat' rather than scary. Out Of Hell is different, but it's meant to be. I will try to see to it that it remains a horror mod, and less of a zombie kill-fest. :)

Don't be confused. These are not true zombies ... they are being controlled by unseen forces ... whatever that means. Oh well it still looks like it will be a fun (if not accurate) zombie / demon mod. but Zombies with guns ... man that just kinda blows the realism for me. Infection 1.0 was good in that the zombies were true zombies and they moved fast enough to really make you sweat and slow enough to still be considered zombies but they were really scary!!! I was hoping for this, but the other features sound interesting enough to keep me curious and wanting to at least play thi s mod once.

I am an expert at horror movies ... been watching them for decades and all the REAL zombie movies portray zombies correctly (NO GUNS) ... and no, ANIME zombie movies don't count. And only American Zombie Movies really count ... when have you seen a good Hammer Zombie movie?

Actually Anuban, one of those old zombie movies one of them did have a gun and did use it, remember the one when they were in the missle silo... and that scientist wanted to make love to that zombie for some odd reason(ok he didnt but he was researching it a little too close), but any ways my point is there was an instance when a zombie did fire a weapon(1911 i believe)..... just had to say that.......

You win ... I forgot about that idoit in the Day of the Dead ... ahhh but one example out of how many Zombie movies ... but one is enough I guess. Hey but he had someone teaching him FOR A LONG TIME ;) so I still think that doesn't count. Are the unseen forces taking the months it took the scientist to teach him to shoot a small pistol to teach these zombies (and that zombie that took forever to learn was a soldier before he died ... so don't give me the these are dead law men jazz) to shoot shotguns?
Anyway it doesn't matter ... this is the Unreal World where anything can and does usually happen. It's a great mod I was just getting AR so I'm done with this zombie discussion. I just can't wait until this is out in 6 months. I hope it does come out by them because after nearly two years I'm just gonna move on and hope something else pops up. Good luck though ... I really hope this does meet your time table because it is one hell of a scary looking mod. Peace :)

I commend you for you dedication and excellent vision, not to mention all the talent you have poured into this. I worked on a zombie mod once (I will not mention its name) as a scripter. I was very excited and pumped about it, putting much time into it. Unfortunately, the creative leadership was pathetic and the zombie mod evolved from a simple zombie survival horror, into something like this:
You have a giant cybernetic battle suit and your part of an elite zombie killing squad. There are cybernetic zombies and weird stuff like that. You can have giant chain guns and sniper rifles. One of the proposed ideas, was to have "tracers" that you could shoot zombies with and have them glow (kind of takes away from the scare factor). The mod leader actually had made a "gun" that was suppose to shoot magical sort of bullets so there would be acid, fire, and ice bullets... or some such crap.
Needless to say... it was very lame and the mod turned into a bunch of kids modeling new weapons every week and no direction. Thank you for staying true to a zombie sort of mod and carrying through.

Now that you mention it.... They did have something wierd growing on them. I cant post a Screenshot of it but i know what you mean. I dunno how to post a screenshot! I got the screenshots in my disk drive but... I cant post it here. Can anyone help me out here? :cry: :cry:

Im still curious. I posted at your forum if you plan to use unique gore , like custom gib meshes per zombie(animated and static) and custom blood effects and decals.
Imagine splattering one of the braindead zombies and getting chunky gray matter all over the place. :D
Things like this will really make these zombies stand out from the other mods that use standard lowres gibs.
And since this is a mod, you wont have all those server incompatbilities like I experienced with the U2Skaarj and Soldiers.

I'll be using custom blood spatters and gibs, though that will probably be one of the last things I do as part of the polishing phase. :) Though I'm pretty set on how the overall game should be presnted, extra details such as ragdoll, gibs, other visual effects and such may end up in the final version even though I may be leaning towards not having it right now. Nothing is set in stone yet for that sort of thing. After I have something workable, I'll have to play through it and it could end up missing that little extra something like ragdoll physics that may make all the difference, so we'll just have to see when we get there. :)

I have 2 quick questions... If not asked yet...
1.Can I use any custom model I have already (Like myself for ut2k4) and play single player mode?
and..
2.Will invasion mode allow me to use my own custom models for team mates?

1: I guess you could, but there really isn't any point, since you can't see yourself and since it's not multiplayer, no one else could see you.
2: There isn't an invasion gametype planned for this release, though there are invasion-type levels. There aren't any AI buddies with you during these levels so it's not possible. (From the get-go anyway..)

You obviously haven't seen Versus. It's a Japanese movie, yes, but it is NOT an ANIME. It's fully live action.

I still stand by my statements ... I know a ton of horror fans and they've never even heard of that Japanese Zombie movie. If you want to use that as your standard I could care less. It's no skin off of my nose. Me ... I'll stick with the established classic ZOMBIE movies and base my statements on them. Romero pretty much created the Genre so I'll use him as my guide. But hey, thanks for hipping me to another horror movie ... obviously monsters can always be reiniterpreted to do whatever a writer or director wants them to but does that make it Legitimate ... I think not. I remember seeing a Japanese movie that was a take on Frankenstien and this Frankenstein was a giant ... at least 150' tall. So whatever ... from what I've seen the Japanese take plenty of liberities with Horror creatures born in the Western culture, but hey I still love Godzilla. But hey that's just my opinion. This is not a subject I am willing to get into any kind of arguments about. Peace.

Wait until you see them in action, you may change your mind. They aren't running around shouting 'There he is!!" then chasing and shooting at you. Imagine this: You peer around a corner, a decrepid zombie aimlessly wanders back and forth, tip of the shotgun is dragging along the ground since he's holding it with one arm. He turns around, sees you, slowly raises it, doesn't look like he's aiming, and pulls the trigger. You get hit in the leg and can't move as he drags himself over and begins tearing you to pieces. Being eaten alive is scary, but knowing the zombies have other ways of bringing you down rather than marching slowly towards you in hopes of strangling you is scarier imho :)

Regardless of what I or Buffy may think this is YOUR mod and your original (thank God for that) ideas. The bottom-line is this mod is gonna be a blast to play and it looks 100% professional. Who knows, if you take your time and don't bow into pressure and just go with your ideas ... this thing could end up being it's own professionally published game. It looks that good. I am glad I drew you out though just so I could say again how much I am looking forward to playing this no matter how the zombies act. I do like your story for them as you describe it on your website ... but those "unseen" forces ... I think you could come up with something better than that as an explanation of what is going on. Anyway I'm all in so hopefully Doom3, HaloUT, Halo 2, and HL2 will keep me busy until you're ready to "ship" this. Peace :) .

Thanks hehe. :) You'll find out the reason behind the 'unseen' force and what it is exactly during the game. Thats the only way I can describe it now without spoiling everything. ;)

well technically, the zombies in that movie are sorta special... you see, the basic plot is that in the world, there are 666 gates to the underworld, and the 444th one is in Japan, called The Forest of Resurrection. Whoever gets buried there comes back to life.
Now the movie begins with escaped convicts running through that forest, with the yakuza gang that helped them escape waiting for them around that area.
The main guy, one of the escapees, gives 'tude to the yaks, and **** hits the fan... soon they realize dead people start coming back alive, and they go "oh ****, this is where we buried all the guys we executed..."
Of course, they buried them with their guns, so they dig themselves out from their shallow graves still holding their weapons.
There's lots more than what i m sayin, just so i dont spoil it 100%, so be sure to check it out.

C+R ... I thought there was more to it ... you have to good of an imagination for some crappy plot. Now I am really salivating ... too bad it's so far off ... but you can't ruch perfection and genius so like I said ... DOOM 3 and Silent Hill 4 will have to hold me over (but they aren't pure Zombie games ... so you can bet my interest in your mod won't wane.). Peace. :)
