hi there

i almost finished the map (i guess)
but suddenly i got some bsp errors in the midsection (the tunnels)

i tried all sorts of **** but it doesnt work
i fix one and another will pop up :(

so i thought, maybe you guys can see the problem and/or fix it

so here (900kb) (http://members.chello.nl/~bjm.vanlier/CTF-Tutorialbeta.zip) is a .zip with the map and a .2ds i used for the tunnels
plz, could somebody have a look at those holes? i placed notes near them so you can easily spot them. maybe you only have to rebuild i dunno

i find that making a copy of a part of the tunnel and place it somewhere outside the map fixes the hole sometimes (but i always had at least one hole (that small crack in right tunnel red side) left

oh yeah, and a tip or comment in general is appreciated to

thx in advance
(and sorry if this belongs in beta releases but i thought it was something different)

ok dude, i tried fixing your map, and first of all, i oculd not remove the holes in the curved section of the tunnel, i did manage to minimize them to 1 hole however, i tried messing with the bsp optimization settings in the build options, although i have left them on the normal settings.
I noticed that the holes were minimized with the good setting, but were just as bad on lame or optimal.
I removed all the anti portals you had in your map, they appeared to be causeing problems, as you enter the tunnels, the whole end of the tunnel would turn into a bsp hole until you got a buit closer to the entrance, i figured it was because you had anti portals extruding out of the wall.
I added in zone portals in doorwars around the map, which improves frame rates more than the anti portals did, with less problems.
Do you want me to send the map back to you, or are you happy to fiddle with it yourself ?

thx :)
yes id like to see your changes (bennievl@hotmail.com)

im a bit of a noob mapper so i thought that anti portals occlude and zones do not (i actually dont know what zones are for apart from giving your position in the map while chatting and on the scoreboard

yeah i could tell you a lot about zones, but basically the engine only renders the zone you are currently in, and ony the parts of other zones that you can see into. to see how it works for yourself, while your ingame, type "rmode 1" into the console, and you will be in wireframe to see through the walls, you wont see anything there if it is another zone, and you cant see through a doorway into it. (type "rmode 5" in the console to return to normal mode ;) )
how do opyu want me to send the map back to oyu, as an email attachemnt ? if so, whats your email ?

Umm, do you have any non-planar faces in your brushes?
If yes you should make the non-planar faces triangles.

About those two holes that removing the antiportals did not fix. They can be solved by playing with the addition brush geometry making up your tunnel lights and then rebuilding.

ffs this is frustrating, its so unlogical

right red side
if you walk against the wall the section closest to the minigun it just dissapears
and i removed all antiportals
wtf?

format life: i aligned all textures already...
drross: then id have to remake half of the map and it prolly will look like crap (and non ctf-tutorial) :(

my email is bennievl@hotmail.com btw

I wasn't talking about the textures, but the 'faces'. They need to be planar...

whats that then?
i saw planar under the alignment option so i thought you meant that...

Umm... It's like a 4 cornered side of a cube that has one corner higher that the other and the thing comes non-planar... Then you'll have to lower that corner or make the face two triangle... It's pretty hard to explain IMO...

All those lightsources you have made in the tunnel are solid brushes(blue), make them semisolid(pink) and no bsp errors will appear.

Not really. Non-planar: not flat.

ok thx all!

i think zoning and/or semisolids did the trick or i got lucky with copy paste the curved sections, rebuild, delete the copies and rebuild again

no holes at all! :)
even the die hard crack in right tunnel red side is gone and the map is finished (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=391775)
