Load Times

I was recently playing on a friends computer, and his computer, which is equally comparable to mine (3gz, 512 ram, etc...) thats 2-5 secs to load a level (online). But mine takes 30 secs. But with him, the level loads and then he still has to wait to join though. But with me I just get the splash screen for 30 secs?

Whats up with this?

And yes, the usual suspects are ruled out: spyware, viri, defrags, etc...

have you disabled pre-load skins in your settings?

I just disabled it. It descreaded the load times by like 8 secs.... Is there anything else I can fool around with?

Load times or connection times?

Sometimes the server you are connecting to takes a few seconds or longer depending on how far away it is. One way to test is play a map online (so it's now cached) then disconnect the server then reconnect you might find there is still a delay ... not much you can do with that.
