Name: Domain2049 - Version 2.0
Version: 2.0
Compatibility: UT2004 - All patches to date - 6th June 2004
Description:
The year is 2049, after the tumultuous wars that defined the early 21st century an uneasy peace has been found at the cost of the freedom of nations. Under a single global government, the United States of Earth, national identity has fallen by the wayside for all but a few remaining 'rogue states'.
The USE maintains order with an iron grip, surveillance cameras on every street quickly pinpoint potential discontent or insurgence, the central information network ensures no citizen moves where they shouldn't or meet with those who might lead to anti-state actions. The motto of the USE is a single word: Control.
However lurking in the shadows, careful to avoid the electric surveillance rebellion does exist. Small, organised cells of guerrilla fighters lead raids on USE command and control, supply and information centres, attempting to undermine the all-pervading control of the totalitarian state, to spread word of hope to the people that one day a new freedom could exist. Living in the wastelands and beneath the streets of the cities the rebel movement seek to break through the control, their very existence is denied by the authorities, who claim that little more than an occasional wayward citizen acting alone in madness is responsible for the increasing insurgence...but the population are beginning to believe...

I'll just quote my reply from the beta releases forum:

...bots are too accurate at a distance.
The first person arm that holds the front of most rifles looks goofy as hell
The shotgun sound effects are extremely weak, and its hit effects could use some sprucing too.
Some of the other weapon sounds could use some work also.
Karma seems a little over the top most of the time.
One other thing.. on that suspension map (the long bridge map), one of the buildings in the background is blue with clouds on it, kind of resembling the default "sky box" texture in the Editor.
Anyway, other than those things im having a great time playing.
The maps are super high quality as usual.
Keep up the good work!

Thanks for your comments on Domain2049. We need every feedback from players we can get.

If we both mean the same thing: this is a little hommage to the Terry Gilliam movie 'Brazil' in witch you can find the same painted tower.

I've been playing this mod for the past few days and it rocks! Only thing that lets it down is the fact its not getting a lot of coverage. The downside to this is that there are not a lot of players out there.

there is a little checkbox at the bottom of the server browser. It says 'standard servers only' - you need to UNcheck this. There are a few servers running.

Epic have updated the server request screen now! People should actually be able to see all our servers (which only count about 2-5 Im afraid).
Our next release is well underway with an absolute HUGE number of changes. Mainly the whole weapon system has been re-written, updated sounds, new player models, hiteffects, muzzle effects, objective updates.
We had quite a large number of downloads so far, but have not had much feedback. If anyone has played domain and has a couple of mins to tell us where we are going wrong (or right) please do, it would be much appreciated.

Feedback:
Spectacular maps. They are great. A very nice level of detail all round. And they seem to have pretty well balanced gameplay, but my assessment is hindered by this:
There are no Australian servers, and the 4 or so that are online (with no players of course) had pings in the 400s which is quite uncharacteristic for normal matches I play. So I used bots.
They seemed to kill me a tad too easily considering how far away they shot from.
The weapons are difficult. I only managed to kill anyone with the UTA10 (whatsit called?) handgun, not a single kill with any of the auto weapons. I don't mind the pistols with that in mind.
I'm sorry to say I couldn't use any of the primaries.
The sniper rifle is aggrivating. The one weapon I expected to be good for long range turned out to be a royal pain as you have to reload after each shot, and loose your target. It's much easier just to use your handgun.
I'm pretty sure that's all.
The maps are great, beautiful flow. And the all the models, characters and weapons are nice.
The sound design could use some work, but the music suited.
Hope this helps.
I hope to be playing alot more of Domain.
I'm taking it to the next LAN I have and give it a go with humans.

Thanks for the reply. What would you suggest for the sniper ? Faster reload time ? Not loosing scope ? We modelled it on something similar in another game, being more powerful and no limit on range, having the ability to fire at such a fast rate could cause a lot of camping. How about just not loosing scope?
The bots are quite clever yes, I wrote a chunk of the AI code myself. They are sneaky in the fact that at a higher level they dont bother checking to see if they have a direct line of fire, but start firing just as you come around a corner. They also have recoil and a slower ROF then a player, they just dont have to wait the 0.5 seconds a human does to work out if its an FF or an enemy. They are still being tweaked as they still group up on user players, and objectives (meanies!).
Humans are definatly much more fun to play against.

I know what you mean with the sniper rifle, it's such a pain when someone's got a fast reload one and there is nothing you can do about it.
I like to idea of not losing scope. And maybe experiment with a faster reload, but not too much faster.
I would suggest playing with only reloading after 5 bullets, or some number around there. Maybe even just 2 or 3.
More than 5 would probably result in camping sniper whores who don't give anyone a chance. However maps like the city street (can't recall the name, but I was playing it last nite  ) would be great because there's so much cover and so many routes that could take you up behind anyone sniping and take them out from behind.
One week til my next lan and I can let you know how I reckon it goes with humans then.

looks great, downloading now. What kind of feel were you going for ? im not a big fan of over the top realism.
legacy-S-Dot

it has more action than most realism games but less than ut. It doesn't have dodging, no boost jump and more damage when jumping down from a hight.
It's kinda assault in a real life environment with more real weapons and a bit slower. We use actors based on assault or assault actors. You need to shoot doors, trigger switches, open valves or place explosives. All depending on the current map.
No real vehicles you can control.

I thought this was the best version, the other ones i played were awful lol.
I never got a chance to play online, may try again, but the main thing i noticed right off was the guns didnt feel good at all, i dont think i ever killed a bot even though i blew a few away.

I have been a fan of the Domain mod since I first played it with the 2003 version. I have not been able to play online due to no servers being available though!!!!
I love the weapons and have always wanted a straight weapons mutator for U2K4! All the weapons are very well modeled and have good game balance.
So if anyone is listening out there maybe a Domain weapons mutator could be in the future???????????????????????????
Great MOD - I hope it gets the support it deserves!:D

Thanks for the input. The weapons and models were always the weak point of the mod, we are working on the next release which has a complete overhaul of weapons, and they feel soooo much smoother. Balance can be tweaked with massive precision now. We also have new models, Ill get some piccies for ya. The new version will tip the scale in our favour from other mods I can tell you :).

nice mod, the one thing that really bugged me was feeling that the maps had no direction, much of the corners were like a maze, i know you can turn the compass on but not on all maps and for example the oil rig map is just a maze :P.
Also some of the maps seem very big with the objective very close to your spawning location, which seems a little odd.
Nice work though.

I swear, I will eventually LAN this and give you some more detailed feedback. Me and my mates have been really busy lately but we keep putting a LAN off. As soon as we do I'll have more to say about playing without bots.
Til then I recommend more people play Domain, it's really neat.
