View Full Version : CTF-Aedes
legacy-Bot_40

Name: CTF-Aedes
Version: 1.0
Compatability: Unreal Tournament 2004
Description: "The Temple of Aedes. Still new and shining in the golden sunset, this was the last temple the nali built before their race was brutally wiped out by the skaarj on the planet of Dria."
Comments: My second map for the new engine. Hopefully theme is something different. I know there are pleanty of temple maps out there but I wanted to create something a bit more ONP like and not this cartoony style a lot of maps have. Just got it entered into phase 3 10 mins before the deadline, so I didn't have time for any proper beta testing (actually, I only managed to find 1 person at the time that would test it so I am just having to cross my fingers there isn't any horrible glaring errors)
Map has about 95% custom meshes and prolly around 90% custom textures.
If you have performance problems then lowering the world detail should cut out around 30-40,000 polys at a pretty big visual cost but it's not horribly high poly anyways. It runs a lot smoother than a lot of the CBP2 maps :p
More info in the readme otherwise I will be rambling on for 10 pages :)

It's extra special for me as this was loosley based on a map me and bot started for ut. (only for UT2003 to appear)
The amount of time and effort he's put into this map, and the result, is amazing. It's a great map.

Heh, Bot's inspired me to get mapping again :)
The more I play it, the map nostalgic of the old map I get... I just realised I'd add a huge amount to the old map and had forgot about it :O
I might experiment and make something using some of the meshes from Aedes along with some meshes of my own. About time I learned the new engine :)

bot 40, this is a pure ownage map. I dont even play ctf anymore and I used to be a huge ctf fan, the maps out there now dont really apeal to me. But this is awesome. once you get that nali download up I'll add this map to my ownage list. Seriously rocking map     btw doesnt hourences max cave tut totally rule? I love it. I've learned the techiques but I havnt actually done anything about making my own map with it. That'll change soon :D

Speaking of Ownage...does such a thing exist for UT2004? so many good maps released for it and not a single map awarded ownage status. Surely Cliffy can make time for some, its long over due :(

Sure there is, look it up under the COMMUNITY option ingame. He doesn't update his site anymore. Currently ons-icarus and cbp2-vol1 are owning him only. :bulb: I could name 10 more maps (beside cbp2-vol2 and 1on1mappack) that would deserve the award. But "he upped his standard".

Finally a new CTF map for Ut2k4 - and this one here's just great!
Very close athomsphere due to rather detailled architecture and superb design! Unfortunately Gameplay goes a bit lost in that great layout..
Nevertheless a must download

CBP volume 2 is in.
1on1 mappack is not.
Other maps worthy of entry are not.
Conclusion = Cliffy is too lazy.

I'm a CTF addict and this is a great addition. It's beautiful and also keeps an asymmetrical feel. (I.e. three paths across the center, but with high, low, and beach, it feels much better than just a left/center/right.) Good fps, too. There are just a couple of pillars I'd like to be able to get on top of that I can't.

Beat me to it :)
Very nice map. I like both the visuals and the layout. I have one objection though, either I am blind but where the hell are the shileds ?
I couldnt find any shields at all and if they are missing that is a serious flaw imo. No DD either afaik. but DD doesnt have to be in there but shields sure as hell have to :)
imo both 100 and 50 shield need to be in there since shield stacking isnt possible anylonger.
but great map m8

Both shields are there... the small ones are in little dead end caverns inside the cave systems, and isn't the 100 shield on the sticky out bit in the center?

No, it's a kegger in the middle :)
Double damage would have caused too much havoc I think since flak + dd + tight corridors = too overpowered.

just checked it again...
Theres a fire torch that rests near teh lift/water area near the flag bases that it floating in the air.
Only think I can find thats wrong atm, apart from the water/skybox seams but that's really hard to fix.
Bot, can you get on IRC?

Considering all the effort that goes into some of these community maps, a better showcase is needed than that. Perhaps we should start a bring back ownage campaign hehe.
OK, he's no doubt really busy but surely there must be some time in the week to review a few of the best releases? Ownage was a UT institution! :(

How about move the shockrifle somewhere and put a 100 shield where it was? Or is it too close to the keg? Worried about putting the shockrifle in the bases, so perhaps it could replace the bio and move the bio into the bases?

One of the best CTF maps I've never seen (usually take back in 2004). Love the atmosphere and experimental feature; gets surrounding in every counts to the temple. I don't know there is a Second Edition (http://www.mapraider.com/maps/?fileid=2229) of this map; it would be a very high performance and visual tweaks over the original. It takes to be a cost for a living.

original version comments:
great atmosphere created with landscape and architecture as well as layout and lighting/shadows; my bots have a tough time defending, the skybox could be better and the weapon/item placement needs tweaking.
final version comments:
same great atmosphere with better skybox and better weapon/item placement; although, my bots still have a hard time defending.
