Anyone know of a good case fan to replace the stock one? I did some looking around and it looks like an 80 mm Panaflow L1A would do the trick?

I have an older Shuttle SS51G running Snapstream's BeyondTV downstairs in the main room.. (aka "tivo")

I enabled showsqueeze, which converts the mpeg2 video the pvr-250 encodes into a smaller wmv format.. so my CPU is pegged at 100% 24/7.. My case temps jumped up to 44 deg C and my CPU temp stays at a steady 60 deg C.. (little worried, but since it doesn't go up above that after staying like that for 2 days, I think it'll be fine.. Its an Intel Celeron btw 2.4 (more emphasis on $$$, and I won't buy AMD for a few reasons) 5200 vid card..

So this is starting to make the case fan work harder (about 2100 rpms).. and the noise level is starting to become noticable... so i'd like to quiet it down a lil..

Shoot it with a flak cannon.

But I know as soon as I say that someone else is gonna say shock combo.

I also have a Shuttle SS51G, but I run a P4 2.4 and a Radeon 9700 Pro in it, along with a RealMedia XCard.

One of the early "mods" I did to it was to replace the case fan. I used the Antec 80mm Blue LED Case Fan (http://www.casejunkiez.com/reviews/cooling/antec_trilite.shtml), and it's not all that quiet. It keeps cool enough, keeping temperatures in the 55°-60° range, though. I have the lights in the fan and the light of the front panel (see here (http://kirby.colorado.edu/jrr/images/sparky/sparky.jpg) (warning, it's kinda big -- it's also the shuttle on the bottom)) to a swtich so that I can turn off the lights to my computer and still have the fan blow.

Like I said though, it really doesn't help too much with the noise. Since I've turned off the automatic fan speed sensor, it's always at full blast. Note: IF you /do/ get a lighted fan, and you leave the auto-sensor on, as the fan slows down, your lights will dim. I don't think it's particularly healthy to run led's outside of their normal voltage, though.

Once, a long time ago, I saw someone who used a delta fan that's like 80x80x50 (double thick, in essence), and got incredible cooling with lower noise... but I can't seem to find that anymore. :(
