Compatibility: UT2004, v3204 or higher
Description: ChaosUT2 for UT2004 is the next in the series of Chaos mods from Chaotic Dreams, following on from Chaos DM (Q2), the original ChaosUT and the UT2003 version of ChaosUT2.

Chaos contains:

New Gametypes: From the old classic King Of The Hill, to the Chaos rendition of Capture The Flag, to the highly customizable Duel mode.

New Weapons: A set of weapons to replace or cycle with the UT2004 ones. On offer are multi-ammunition Crossbows and Grenade Launchers, the Enhanced Rail Delivery Weapon (ERDW), the Multi-Utility Gun, and many more, all with top-class models, sounds and effects. There is also a full melee fighting system incuding weapons such as a mace and a bastard sword.

New Features: Enhance your game with Anti-Grav Belts, heartbeats to let you know when the enemy is low on health, Chalk outlines to mark the location of a kill, and other such features.

New Maps: Includes maps for Deathmatch, Capture The Flag, King Of The Hill and Duel, coming to a total of 29 new maps.

New Players: From a Temple Knight to a Drow princess, the new Chaos player models help bring a Chaotic atmosphere around the game.

Got any more mirrors planned? Those listed on the site are all the height of suck. Vileplanet as usual has a cue, DB Center is giving an errror saying I don't have permission to access the link, NitroClan isn't loading and FPS Central requires registration which I'm not even going to consider simply to download a single file.

Tried to play a quick botmach after download but the only way to get the bots into the map is with the addbots command nothing else will work for me.

Why am I not surprised at the number of people having problems downloading from the mirrors that are there? :( We need more mirrors! The sooner BeyondUnreal's are sorted the better :/

If you are creating a .ucl file with this content it works:

It just was not ready for prime time...but you can play with it..and even fire your players weapon...it will be worked on ASAP.

Ok, I downloaded the zip, and extracted it inot my ut2004 floder. Now what? I don't see any chaos mod listed, and I if I try to join a internet game, I don't see the chaos gametypes listed at all.

Is there a exe in the chaos system folder I'm missing, or what?

Start UT2k4, click on community, you can start it out of the mod list.

Finally figured that out, but it seems that it won't connect to the server. There are no games showing at all.

regular 2004 works fine though.

edit: And if I copied over the UTX and UPL files for the player skins, would I be able to use them in regular 2K4?

edit: Alright I activated Chaos through the Community tab, but when I try to play a Duel game type, I'm forced into spectator mode and I can't actually play. My opponent spawns and I don't. And also I have it set to "use bot roster" and I have 7 bots in there, but the game only spawns one in the player list.

So to recap:

-I get one bot in the game and not 7
-I don't get to actually spawn and play

to get the chaos models to show up in normal ut2k4, add this to your ut2004.ini (below the other stuff)

Thats a nasty bug you have. ATM I can not reproduce it. We here that bot roster is being a pain...try to select 5 random bots and make sure you dont hit specator (just checking) :)

alright I'll give that a shot.

edit: Nope, I found the problem. Cleared the mutator list and that fixed it right up. Works now. I think I know which one it was too, it was this thing called "Jump anywhere" which lets you do a jump or a dodge at any time, even when falling. These jumping mutators have a bad tendency to change default stuff in the player class, and I guess Chaos wasn't ready to handle it and so never spawned me. I think that was the one, cause it works now.

The bot thing is not a bug, there is an optian to have more than two bots/players at a time, the thing where you can't spawn and play is probably because you have a mutator runing and is conflicting with chaos, remove them they are all dirt compared to chaos. LOL

Dude, the wait was horrendiously long, but the payoff was totally well worth it. The new weapons LOL, I had so much fun playing with bots and destorying them in chaos duel with melee weapons. Now for the other modes I haven't touched yet. This, along with UT2004RPG, will give UT a whole new life. Well done dude, well done.

Melee weapons can be used in All of the Chaos Game types...not just duel. In fact its fun to see a sniper, sneak by him with the grapple then supprise them with a melee...up close...and personal :)

Sure there is as Chaos DM, Chaos CTF, Chaos Duel (depending on your mode of duel), Chaos Koth and Chaos Team KoTH all have a melee selection screen while your playing the game, hit the "esc" in game menu to bring it up, look for the weapons tab, there is your melee weapon of choice :)

Very odd. I have no mutators loaded, yet I cannot see bots in the games (besides duel) I start up. Can someone help me here?

EDIT: It seems that that 'Map Defaults' option is not used; only the number of bots I specify (or I can use the bot roster I guess but I don't wanna). Even if the 'Map Defaults' option is selected, the number of bots spawned is the number I specify in the box (which gets grayed out but that doesn't matter to the game).

Aha! I found the mutator, and with a combo of WoRm and chaosut mutators, I was able to make a melee DM game mode. O_O lol Good job on this mod. It rocks alot.

PS. Fav new weapon is the Cutter blade launcher thingy. That is so cool.:p

Yes we know about it and hear some other mods have the same issue. We are still trying to work out what and where it got broke and seeing if we can get a work around in place ASAP.

Holy crap, I just gave ChaosUT I quick runthrough. WHAT A BLAST!!! Wow, that is just awesome fun. Great work all around to everybody who helped develop this gem. People complaining that the 'vanilla' UT is too humorless, just give this mod a shot. I was cracking up laughing the whole time I fragged. The weapons are just freaking over-the-top crazy madcap fun.

Can't wait to try this online.

I know that i'm being a noob by just now downloading this mod, but OMFG it is awesome! The only problem is I can't play it online. I've already posted a thread on trouble shooting, go see that and please help me. But besides that, this is so f-ing cool. Duel mode alone with melee weapons is great for hours of fun. their is something strangely satisfying about slicing your opponets head off with an axe.

The melee combat is awesome... a little bit of strategy involved, but not enough that you actually have to... go forbid... THINK. I was also very impressed by the grappling hook... what a blast. I spent like an hour just messing aroun with it solo on Icarus.

The Chaos team has always put out some of, if not the best custom Unreal stuff. Their work is even better than many game companies out there, and I'd say the Chaos team sets the model that others should follow.

All their weapons are great and fun to use... as long as they keep the mod simple and FUN they will always do well.

I remember when it came out for ut99 and I have to say it has always been a fav:)

I did this but all I see is question marks. I then tried to add the other paths that made sense but it stil didn't work. Models showed up in plain UT2K4 but then when I started a game UT2K4 crashed. Has anyone been successfull with actually playing the models (not just seeing them show up) in vanilla UT2K4? Thanks for any assistance. Other that this the Mod is fantastic!! :)

Thanks for any assistance ... I really appreciate it. Please don't respond to this asking me why I want to do this. It's supposed to work as far as I know and I would like to play with these characters in other gametypes.

Edited: I just tried to see if I could play against the Chaos bots iif I used the Chaos Mod. But now I can't choose the bots I want to play against or to be on my team. So it would apprear to me that currently these models just don't work unless you are playing as a Chaos model. Maybe the models should have been left out since SP/IA can't use them as they use the other models. I know MP/Online players may not care but this is a serious bug and while the rest of the mod works this brings the mod as a whole down a notch. I can't imagine if UT2K4 shipped with this problem ...

Still loving the weapons ... I just really wanted to be able to put the Knight on my ONS team :( .

Edited: I just did more testing and my I've come to the conclusion that the models ony work in the ChaosUT2 mod and only if you choose to play as a Chaos model. In Vanilla UT2K4 you can't choose a Chaos model/skin to play as (never mind playing against them). If I'm wrong and they should work in UT2K4 please PLEASE help me out and tell me what I am doing wrong. I even tried to play on Chaos map and that didn't help either ... still couldn't choose the bots in Chaos and still crashed the system in vanilla UT2K4.

I mean what good is it seeing them in the bot lineup if you can't use them ... and anyone who has read any of my posts knows that I DO NOT slam people or complain just to be a jerk or anything ( if anything I praise people too much ... I don't like ragging on anybody if I can avoid it). This is a great mod, I just don't like the fact that the models don't work. I know you guys wanted to add even more than the acclaimed UT2K3 Chaos but these models ... ??? I guess I'll wait until the next ver to play Duel and play with the models. For now I'll just get a kick out of using the weapons ... but I know you guys wanted this to be more that just a weapon mutator/mod :( . I'm just feeling sad that I can't use one of the best models I've seen. Peace. Any ... and I mean ANY help or info would be greatly appreciated. :)

Thank you VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY much!!!!! That worked perfectly in plain UT2K4. Hurray!!! Now the mod is almost perfect and I did go and check your site and see that you are hard at work on the patch. Man it sounds like this next version is going to rock!!! I can see you guys really do care about the users and giving support so that people can enjoy the mod.

I was just frustrated because I wanted to utilize more than the weapons. Now I can have some real fun hunting down the dead women :) ... me and the Knight!!! Thanks again and I look forward to the next version. :D :up: :up:

This mod is the BEST mod I have seen and I am trying to use your mod as a model for ours. This ChaosUT2 mod is so flexible and so much fun ... words escape me! Simply put it rules!!! You folks are really amazing ... don't ever stop!!! You guys have the coolest weapons and the Duel gametype alone puts this mod in the top three. Then add maps and those new models and the ability to play in Chaos or in UT2K4 and you have a winner!!! Until The Hulk turns blue ... make mine Chaos!! Maybe you could me a big favor and drop by http://torlan.forerunners.org/ and post a suggestion on how we can get our mod out on time (we are looking at an Early Nov. release date).

Nath - I would really like some input from you if possible. We are working to deliver something really breathtaking but I'm uncertain about our timeline, so any input you could give would be valuable and very much appreciated. Maybe we'll have to scale back ... I dunno ... this is where I'd really like your input, if possible. Peace and thanks for the great mod (I still can't get over how solid of a mod this is especially considering how much you added)!

Ah, thanks :). Another question I have, how do you get people to be impaled? I got impalsed when a bot launched me into a spike on the wall, so I made a map float above a bunch of spikes, but people just fall ontop of them and run around, or they die, fall on them, and bounce off. Any help would be nice.

Gotta admit, I'm not a fan. We LANed this a short while back, and it wasn't fun. Good coding of the weapons and stuff, but the design is screwed. It has the feel of something you'd find drawn in the margins of a high-school maths book.

But hey, just my $0.02. There's obviously a market for random, inconsistent theming, so more power to you. UT is a prime example of this anyway.

Hey, at least I didn't say "omg kaos sux d00d." I don't think my post was "spewing negative cracks all over this thread" at all. But anyway.

To expand on what I was saying, the theme seems to be too clashed. Combining medieval with futuristic elements makes the game seem too crowded. I agree the coding involved is incredible, but the design, as well as the flow and layout of the maps, leaves a bit to be desired. If you can't see where I'm coming from with that, then I really can't explain it in layman's terms. It just doesn't "click."

And I like UT2004. I paid $AU80 for it didn't I?

So please, save the "I won't sink to your level" crap for someone who's actually flaming you, not just because my post was a change from all the praise. Ok? Thanks.

ummm, Its called "Chaos" for a reason :p :D

Chaos makes a great seemless game, just cuz the theme isn't seemless doesn't mean the gameplay isn't :cool:

Understand where you coming from. We don't expect every one to like or enjoy the mod. And thats prefectly ok. We try to make it the best that we can given our talent and ideas. Some times we do well, other times we need more work. But if every one liked the same thing then there we not be a moding community so thanks for trying Chaos. And maybe next time you might find something more to your liking.

slight question. I use switcharsenal and weaponstuff and work weapon replacer to make my own multigun arena, but when i load up the grenade launcher or something that uses multiple ammos, i don't get the otehr ammo with the gun itself, any way to change that? :)

Not really. The weapon only comes with default ammo. The other ammo types are found in the map and switched in via our Mut. However our mut is looking for flack ammo to swap with the CGL ammo..so if another mut is changing the flack ammo, then ours can never spawn the other ammo types :(
