dont let the screens fool you;
items and play balancing were completed
well after the screens were taken-
there are plenty of items and pickups in game

Whoa, I knew I was gonna like this one just from the screenshots. Amazing.
However, you might want to submit it to UT2004HQ.com or some other site so they can mirror it, as residential ISPs generally don't like you hosting files on their webspace. Just a heads-up :p

Beautiful map with lots of detail, but not a lot of fun to play on imo. Unless I'm missing something, it plays quite flat.

Good map, but there are a few things I would like to mention.
First, the Elevators. You should have them rotated, so they are positioned to go, up, down, up, down. The current setup, where they all just take you up, takes away from game play and flow because it causes you to have to leap over the edge to get to the lower level, and causes you to get hurt. I realize its not that much damage, but any amount of damage can determine whether or not you live through the next shot.
Second, the map is too repetitive. you took the same few meshes and used them through out your whole map. Thus is the reason some said it felt flat. For this reason it would be a good Idea to make your next map more varied in either layout, or visual appeal.
Third, the music. Custom music is good, and in a weird way your sound track did go with the map, but next time you make music, try to make it a little more pleasant on the ears. Out of tune sounds generally don't make people want to listen to a sound track.

Will you be making Onslaught maps anytime soon, or are you a only a DM kinda guy? :)

Ahh Winrar!! :sour: Oh well I guess I'll have to download WR...
Looks a bit repetitive with all the magma or w/e flowing around. But it looks like it'll play good! :D

In terms of flow, everyone is just transported to the second floor where they cannot escape from without harming themselves which kind of leaves the bottom floor a bit empty most of the time...
The biggest problem to me seems to be that it is essentially just a big square box room and therefore, weapons like the sniper, lightning and shock dominate...
Quite nice looking map but rather repetitive. In review, I would give it about a 6 out of 10...

Looking very good, but the lighting needs some variation in my opinion. :)
Looks good, but also a bit repetitive (mirrored into all four corners if I'm not mistaken, with very similar light and textures everywhere).

I'm too much of a n00b at DM to comment on flow, but why would you get down at all? You get a good vantage position and powerups up there.
Plus if you must get down, you can 1) walljump halfway, 2) land on some static mesh or 3) land on your shield to negate damage.

Like the looks of this map. I agree that the lighting is a bit bland, especially when you consider it's magma flowing around everywhere.
Unfortunately however I always get an instant headache playing this map, very wierd... :weird:

Well, I would much rather it be fun than pretty-
When I play this map, I run it with up to 11 bots
and its pretty good pace and action for my taste, but
everybody likes different things.
I hope you dont hate it at least!
Thanks for playing it regardless-
and thanks for posting taboo-

great feedback NeoPhoenix!
I should have split the map up with variation that both
differed visual detail as well as serve the vertical transition factor.
Once you do get up top, you are having to leap of faith to get down again (SORRY EVERYONE!!)
I also believe I should have utilized the molten paths with a 3rd
transition type that would have small damage but cool corkscrew
cover/combat. I have this as a little test map somewhere, its
pretty cool but packed in a map with everything else it would have
run like mud. and I mean dirty, stinky mud.
As for the music, I did want it to be:
a)not straight up techno
b) have a distinct/quirky/unsettling effect
(Thus all the scratchy woo woo and chirps)
It was either that song or a tribal/primal drum one that sounds
like soft bags of thick leather being beaten with hammers made
of heavy breath and guilt. (If that makes any sense)
I was afraid it would make the level feel like Mortal Kombat lol

Well, I did make one that I never finished,
I kind of like doing things away from the norm,
so if I was to take it to completion, I'd first have to do some
major redesign- there are some great ONS maps out there,
and there are tons of ONS maps out in general.
I do have an ONS idea that I'd like to make, but it would
be a great load of work.

I tried to balance out the play up top by using the fences,
like you could dodge and jump around those to avoid shock
combos and snipers camping- while maintaining the "open"
feel of the map
OK I won't make any more symmetrical maps :p

I was hoping snipers would like all the possibilities in this map-
a little elbow grease can get you in some cool spots.
However not traversing the map is a bad thing.
If you do stay up top you are pretty much restricted to ranged
weapons (unless you already got others from the ground floor)

What! a headache?
I guess its time to shoot this damn map in the eye!
the scoreboard is WAY too small
There were LOTS of decorations taken out for performance
There were going to be moving cranes and things to ride on
(like in an automated facility, etc)
There should have been a pair of shoes and an uneaten cheesecake in an obvious location.
a giant wooden nose that follows you around, but when you
look at it, it pretends to be looking at someone else.
Instead of lava sounds; a very distant parade of small whistles
Thanks everyone for posting------------

Lol, I think you took that last part a wee bit to seriously :haha:
It must be something with the color contrast or something. I remember having it on a Quake level too, which had similar colors. Dunno why, I guess my mom must've dropped me when I was a baby :p
I still very much like this map, it's in my server's maplist
And I absolutely love DM-Refined, so I look forward to your other projects :)
edit: to give you an idea what I meant about the lighting here's a foto of a steel factory:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/38221000/jpg/_38221829_steel300.jpg
There's an immense glow to it, which I think misses in your lighting.

I found some thinks on this map. First off all I think you could like spread the power ups more. Don't have the amp and mega healt on 1 side. This way people will only still there :D. So try to spread thinks out more.
http://img64.photobucket.com/albums/v194/GinZzA/209.jpg
It would be nice if you'd put like 3 healt vials on these chains. This will force people to jump there and force me to frag them out of the air and there ain't anythink better then that :D
http://img64.photobucket.com/albums/v194/GinZzA/210.jpg
If I jump in there I get a mayor error. So a must fix.
The fact that all the lava makes a lot of noice is kinda irri, but I'd have to try this online with people.
For the rest it's a good map :D We'll done. I like the sniper map too. Good work, keep on going imo.
