EDIT: I just played it, and I have to admit I'm a bit suprised. Most realism maps don't tend to suit UT2004's fast pace, but this one plays nicely. Great work. :)

Lovely map, plays very well, but there are certain areas you can get to which you should consider closing off and fixing.

I think this is by far the best playing and looking urban-style map I've seen for UT2004 (I could've missed a few of course ;) )
The barrels add to the gameplay alot and the sniper post is just brilliant
Gameplay takes to the roofs pretty quickly with experienced players.
The windows, doors etc. could've used blocking volumes in front because you get stuck on them pretty easy. That would've made the flow of this even better imho.
I did find a little bug:
http://img2.IMGSpot.com/u/04/157/20/refined.jpg
I'm actually standing on an invisible volume there.
And what did Bert do?

The map has been updated to address the collision issues
once you get to the roof areas. Follow the link above for it.
Since I was making the fixes, I added about 20% new areas
(on the roofs) and did some item tweaking. Snipers will like
the new changes. I hope the additions will accomodate for
having to download the map again :sour:
BTW thanks for all the feedback guys,
you've really made my weekend! :D
Its so rewarding to make something
people actually have fun playing...

No problems here frogger.
Do you have all the textures as well? Perhaps you didn't have 'retain folder structure' for winrar on? (guessing

Berts hit a run of bad luck lately,
involving a run of drunken bafoonery
ending with an assault on
Sesame Street co-star Ernie
When asked about the attack, Ernie shook his head
and said something pretty silly.
Bert has refused to comment on the incident.

Nice map. Couple of things...
Needs some blocking volumes in the corners where the trees are. Easy to get stuck.
Compress the textures in your map and the texture packs to reduce thier sizes.

Looks very nice, everything seems to fit into place.
Some things that bother me, the trim on the sidewalks sticks above the ground a few units... maybe round it out or make it flush.
And on the last pic the texture for the trim looks pretty blurry.
Other than that, great looking map.

Awesome map really has a fast gameplay and lots of sniper possibilitys. I really liked the exploding barrels easy way to take out 3 or 4 guys at once.
OMGLIEKCOOL: Someone finally made exploding barrels. :D Interactive maps are hard to find.
Looks realistic, in a good way.But also: Shadows are too deep. There should still be plenty of light in the shade in broad daylight (diffuse light bouncing off walls and the sky and stuff). I almost have to feel my way around when I step out of the sun.
It's kinda tough getting to second story spots. A couple of ladders/lifts would really improve flow.

Yea, I have a version where collision is 90% fixed-
kind of sitting on it as this was supposed to be done LOL
I was also thinking if I do release an updated version of this map
I would do a LOT of texture cleanup, compressing and
deleting all the unused **** in the packs.

You mean you dont like that I actually raised all those damn

I was going to put terrain in...
that blurry trim wants to say he's sorry and should have never
been allowed to face a light source

In my latest version I have it now all pretty and
wispy- thought at one time about making this map a darker
time of day as well- but I like the idea of killing around
"business as usual"

I will take this into consideration in my next map-
lighting is a funny thing- unless you wander around a certain
ambience level lighting can look pretty different
machine-to-machine.
I'm glad you told me, I cannot stand areas that are too dark!
I did try to build some mood with the long shadow areas-
but this could have been easily made cooler with a single light
and effect- next map me make better!! :p
I took out most of the ladders as bots would not 100% use them correctly- and so in those areas where traffic would pile up I had
to make the decision to alternate the paths. I kept some
and prevented them from pathing; so no bot would look really
dumb on them, and in doing so i tried to even the odds against
the player (if they gotta jump you gotta jump)
BTW thanks!

Bots dont go into the 2nd story to get the deemer or sniper. They basically dont use the 2nd story at all, just where those boxes are by the one side of the one building for them to jump up which they have problems with.

I need to grab the newest version of this because I love it so much. :)
Quick question ...
Up by the sniper rifle, if you jump up on the small rooftop, you can fall behind the wall and be forced to kill yourself, because there's no way out. Did you fix that in the latest build?
Thanks for a great map,.

Thanks for liking it!
No, the collision area you are talking about is not fixed in the
latest available download, only on my local machine.
my goal today is to get my local version finished, which fixes
this and several other collision things, along with lots of small
tweaks and texture cleanup done, and put it up for download.
it might take a while, as I have other things to do today, so
it might not be done until tonight. I have to test, test test it
before releasing.

--grab the map from the same link in the original post--
this is still a .rar download, to retain any links that point
to it from gods knows where
fixed a lot of collision problems. Well, they
should really all be fixed now.
fixed skybox/fogging
added/ tweaked pathing - bots seem to behave
a little better as well
"flushed" curbing with grass
minor geometry changes
a couple new goodies put in
file size down by a meg or two
and now I can hopefully abandon this thing and focus
on my new map :bulb:

I like this map alot.
The only suggestion I really have is to make the scale a little bit bigger. Judging the scale by charactor size, everything is pretty much within what you would expect it to be. However, to add more emersion, you have to add the movement into the scale. Higher roofs, a lil bit wider paths.
This is a great map, and one Ill be keeping for 1on1.

This map was a real test of scaling in UT2k4 (as you can imagine)
I learned a lot in building to this smaller scale around 2k4's gameplay and character abilities.

yes, but this has been running on my server since it came out...if i change the version on the server and it has the same name..everyon will get version mismatch. Most don't know to clean their cache or delete old version from directory. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't release maps under the same name that are not the same. add v2 or something... no way i will add the new version because no one will be able to join.

Yes, I had that problem ALOT. I had to go in and delete it, and redownload it from your server... because I had the new version. :(
1973, all releases after a first release really do need to have name changes, as mismatches just suck.
