JaFO,
Botmanager Version:3.0 crashes right after starting it on my Windows XP-SP1 on an Intel 3.06 HT with the message:
"BotManager.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Any idea's about how to fix this.

Without additional info I can't do anything.
Please list the following :
- version of the Botmanager (v3.0.2.0 is the latest)
- OS
- UT2k4 version
- any changes to the install (additional paths used for content)
- any mods / mutators / skins / characters installed
- try the /LOG option
- don't e-mail the log without telling me first and try to compress it into a .zip-file before e-mailing as well
// -- edit --
Currently I'm investigating one bug :
Possible incompatibility with original UT2k3-models installed in UT2k4
Bug possibly related/limited to MS XP only ?

Botmanager 3.0.2.0
Pentium 4 3.06 HT
Windows XP SP1 US
UT2K4 3204 & 3227
Installed to G:\Program Files\JaFO\JBM_v30
Clanskins installed.
/LOG does do nothing, botmanager crashes right after doubleclick, can't find any logs then.
Might be a Hyperthreading problem. Had that with DVD2DVD also, before the creator fixed this. Had to start that one 10 times before it started 1 time correctly.
I got Botmanager to work 1 time using remote desktop.
I got botmanager working on other PC, so no real need to fix this just for me. Just wanted you to know. For if you get more complaints about it.
Keep up the good work, very nice program.

Do you have any info on that particular fix ?
Cause I've got neither XP nor an Intel P4 with HT to verify either feature.

Doesn't do squat for me. I unzip it, run Setup and nothing happens. Task manager shows that Setup is indeed running, but it doesn't do anything.
Isn't there a version that doesn't require a specific setup program?

Sounds like the download got corrupted somehow.
Did you try downloading again ?

More info on your particular system would be nice as well.

Been waiting for this release! Thanks. Awesome work there :)
I've been using this for a few days now, and I've encountered a strange bug - Several times after changing a bot's stats, the quotation marks around the bio stored in the upl disappear. Other than that, awesome.
One feature I'd like to see added is an option to load all upls at once, so each one doesn't have to be manually loaded.

Got the same problem
Botmanager 3.0.2.0
Windows XP
UT 2004 v.3204
No LOG I can find
Hope u get this fixed soon, REALLY want this tool
I had the same problem with a P4 running XP UTv3204. After installing the last beta patch, no more crashes.

Weird ... I can't find anything that causes it. :(
Or at least nothing like that happens on my system, but then again I'm not using either XP or a P4 with HT.
I've made some fixes in areas that I thought might cause problems, but I can't be sure if they'll work.

To anyone who is having problems with the program :
there may be light at the end of the tunnel ...
Or in other words ... I've released a (beta)patch that may or may not fix your problems.
Since I can't replicate the problem my self I am relying on your reports to see if it really is fixed.
At worst it should allow you to create log-files now ...
Download : patch #2 (beta) (http://members.chello.nl/~r.dautzenberg/downloads/jbm_patch2.zip)
Note : using Win98-compatibility features of XP for this program could help as well.

JAFO,
Patch didn't help for my problem. But your tip about Windows 98 compatible mode did !!!!
But still nog logging without the compatibility mode.
If I can test something for you, let me know.
Thanx.

The patch combined with '98 compatibility settings works perfectly for me, great job!

I'm glad the Win98-compatibility feature works for now, but it effectively means that it's still not fixed.
Otoh it might shed some light on the problem at hand.

Well I don't know if this helps I run Windows 98SE on an AMD Athlon 1.2 gig, with no problems with game or Bot Manager.. it runs with absolutely no problems..
I have UT2K3-models, reskins, custom skins, from UT2K3 just copied into UT2K4 and no problems at all with BotMananger recognizing and listing them properly, or working with them... So I may tend to agree this is an MS XP issue..
Cheers mate
Is it possible to edit the default bots with this utility? Like give Gorge less accuracy and more style?
Speaking of which, does anyone know what "Style" does for bots?

This sounds like Win-XP to be the issue with crashing. What Service Pack are you runnning?

Hey my copy worked the first time I loaded it and then it wont work anymore? I have xp and ht but thought that was wierd then I downloaded the patch and it worked once and then stopped working too?

This looks cool, but will it mess with any on the original UT2004 files, or does it work around them?

Yes.
The safest route for this is to use the 'custom bots'-feature.
You normally access this in UT2kx by choosing to use a bot-roster in instant-action and then 'edit' the stats for the characters you want to modify.
In this utility you can do the same (and give them an alias) by picking :
'main menu -> characters -> 'Custom bots ...'
Eventually you'll see a dialog like this :
http://img16.photobucket.com/albums/v47/jafo18/JBM/jbm_custombots.png
Speaking of which, does anyone know what "Style" does for bots?
high values for 'combatstyle' make the bot more aggressive (berserker), while lower values means they'll play more defensive (camper).
// NeoPhoenix
While it can modify the original xPlayersL1.upl & xPlayersL2.upl I've disabled this.
The reason is that servers might want to check to see if these files are unmodified to prevent cheating.
// Bandit145
Reports so far seem to indicate that you need to run this utility in 'Windows 98'-compatibility-mode in XP.
If that doesn't fix it then I'd need more details.
I can't promise any fixes since I don't have enough info about the true cause of the problem other than the fact that only users with XP seems to have this kind of issue.

Current buglist :
= after the umod is created with the botmanager any umods that's installed uses product-name from the umod you've made instead of the actual info.
Cause : the botmanager did not delete the manifest.INT file from your UT2k4\system directory.
Same thing happens for all the other languages.
Fix : delete all manifest.* EXCEPT manifest.ini ...
Status : fixed in next patch
= XP systems have problems running the program (usually access violation as soon as it starts)
Cause : unknown ...
Fix : use Windows98-compatibility for this program ...
Status : needs testing ...
I'm using XP pro and haven't experienced many errors.. most of the errors I see are common sense things clicking on another item too quickly.

A more detailed description would be useful, because even though it's "common sense" ... not many people have it ;)
Fewer bugs is always a good thing.

If you need help putting this program into Win98 Compatibility Mode in WinXP, right click on the shortcut icon for it and, in the menu that pops up, click properties. In one of the tabs on the dialog window that appears (The tab is usually called advanced), you'll see a dropdown box that has a lot of Windows OS versions in it. click the down arrow next to it and then click on Windows 98. Click the OK button.
Now you can run the app.
Enjoy.

I haven't had any time for any real updates. :(
The XP-problem continues to elude me as well, so the Win98-compatibility mode appears to be the only 'solution'.

I got a few questions:
What exactly does combat style mean?
high values for 'combatstyle' make the bot more aggressive (berserker), while lower values means they'll play more defensive (camper).
Okay, if that's the case, what does the aggressiveness stat do?
Secondly, in the Special tab for specific bots, what do the Menu, and Bot-use settings do?

1. I think that affects how much they want to kill the foe.
2. Don't know.

I cannot get the program to run, regardless of what it do. I run the setup.exe and it just sits there. I have to kill it through Task Manager. Running WinXP Pro SR2, AMD Athalon 900, UT2004 pached to 3339. I've tried to run it in compatibility for Win95, Win 98 and NT and no changes. Is there anyone who has an answer for this. I desperatly need this program, to save my sanity! Thanks...

my guess would be that the install you've downloaded has become corrupted in some form.
Try downloading from another location.

Although I have not gotten it to run yet, I was able to install by turning off All my anti-spyware / anti-virus programs while locking access to the internet with my firewall. Yes I did scan the files first before turning all that stuff off.

Hey,
To get this to run with XP, I had to set compatibility to win95.
Right click on icon and select compatibibility, then select compatability mode and set that to win95
Worked for me :D
