Name: Chosen
Version: V2
Compatibility: UT2004 with no patches needed
Description:
Story: The gods are sick of all the mortals having all the fun, so they have decided to sponsor a player in the
tournament. Problem is, how to chose the player? They decided that if a player could collect all of the level up
items that they placed on the map, they would chose that player as their hero. The player would get the Cho'sen, a powerful
weapon that freezes people in their tracks until their souls can be collected.
Basic Gameplay: Collect all 5 of the powerups on the level, and you will become Chosen. The cho'sen weapon will freeze
other players. The point of the match is to freeze all of the other players. If you do this, you will win the match.
If you are killed when you are chosen, all frozen players will unfreeze, and someone else can become chosen.
If you are killed with ANY power ups, you will drop them as well.
When you collect all 5 powerups, you get a nice health boost, and you are way faster than the other players. Plus, as you can see below, your skin changes.

Unfortunately I cannot get it to work. All the files are in the right places (I used the ZIP version; what's a UMOD version doing for UT2004? And what kind of script is that anyway?) and Chosen shows up as a gametype, but I don't see anything different about the maps I load up. Even those I know like the back of my hand have no changes from the normal Deathmatch gametype. How weird.

I can't play this either. I get package loading errors in my ut2004.log. They refer to a GhostAttack package that can't be loaded.

The maps will be the same, except that they will contain the Chosen Level Up pickups.
One way to determine if its working is to look at your rank and score (upper left hand side of the HUD). That score is now based on the number of Chosen Leven pickups you have, not your kills.
So if you kill someone and the score increases, then indeed its not working.
As for the GhostAttack package not loading, I will look into that when I get home. I did a search in all of my code and found no GhostAttack reference, but theres a slim possibility it is a problem with the textures.
It is the textures. I have to fix that when I get home but in the meantime, I have posted the GhostAttack textures on my download page, if you want a quick "patch" Downloads (http://www.knight-schroder.com/HotPotato/downloads.php)

Yeah I noticed your code had no reference to GhostAttack and came to the same conclusion about the textures. However, usually when I open a texture package that references another missing package UED3 crashes, but when I opened it, your's didn't. Quite strange. Thanks for the texture package. :D
BTW, why have you chosen (no pun intended) to name your mod packages .umod instead of .ut4mod?

Yeah the reason I name the UMOD files that way is that I dont have a choice (or I dont know how to make it happen any other way).
I use WOTGreat for development (which is an awesome tool, I will be sending my money on the day that I can afford it), and there is a UMOD Wizard that creates the umod files for me. It names them .umod, and I dont see any way to change it.
About Ued, I had some problems with the whole textures thing. I copied the textures from the ghostattack texture file (I was making a ghostbusters gun, thats why the stream looks like that). But the problem was once I copied from one package to another, I was having problems saving my new package. Like I would save it, but then when I reopened again, the textures wouldnt be there. I messed with it for like 2 hours, but to no avail.
Sorry that you had to deal with that, I THOUGHT That I had the textures thing all set, but apparently some of the combined textures till pointed to the other package even though I told it EXPLICITLY to point to itself (each individual texture, that is).
So what I will do to fix is just include the GhostAttack.utx in the zip and umod.
I will do so when I get home, as I cant ftp to home from work since they block that port on my work computer. Lame.

Oh and by the way, how do you make .ut4mod files?

There is a new version of umodwizard somewhere, that will generate the ut4umod file for you. It's really easy to use. But I'm pretty sure you can just change the extension name from umod to ut4mod without any problems as the file structures are mainly the same, but I haven't tested this.

Good deal. I did download the latest version from the umodwizard site, but it LOOKED like it did the same thing so I assumed (incorrectly) that it would have the same end effect.
My bad, I'm thinking maybe of just offering a zip file and thats it. Is there any reason not to do this? Or are the umods just easier to install because they place your files automatically...

Any variant of the umod file only work alone on windows. You need to do specific things to unpack them on the mac and linux os's. Zips are fine you just have to make sure they have the correct folders setup.

For anyone who is going to download, I have fixed the afore mentioned problem with the GhostAttack package.
Enjoy!

I played this with bots for 15 minutes and no one could collect all 5 of the level up items before getting fragged.
Could you make the amount of level up items selectable so they could be reduced??

I can, but it might take me awhile.
When you say noone could get them all, does that include yourself? Im just wondering, because the idea is that its supposed to be a little difficult to get them all, but if you couldnt collect them all in 15 minutes, then its too hard.

Yes, that includes myself.
I played on dm-betalus with 5 bots. I consider myself an average player.

Yeah I consider myself a less than average player heh too much time programming and not enough playing.
I will see what I can do about making the level you need to obtain configurable.
