he looks short.

not to me... but probably just the angle if you think so, he's actually a little taller than the standard UT characters

I like the textures, I had to inspect it carefully before I saw they were custom made. Very good job on the colors and shape.
But! He looks short because his head is a little on the big side. A head is an 8 or 7.5'th the size of the body (including head). That guy looks more like a 6.

his head is bigger than normal, but it wasnt modeled as a realistic representation of the human figure (just look at the size of his hands and feet). it's all part of the style really.

How exactly were they based on epic's animations? Did you grab the files epic released and altered them individually? Either way, the animations work great in game. Most modelers slap the default animation set on them and call it done, which always results in weird twisting of especially the shoulder, and incompatibilities with the default animations because the authors didn't use the same rig epic did.

Yours has none of these flaws, and the animations are incredibly smooth, especially the movement cycles. The only thing I'd tweak is changing the framerates with which the movement cycles are played back. Some of them are too low (probably at the default 30) which causes the feet to slide while moving, you can easily change this in ActorX' animation manager, or in Ued at the sequence properties.

The model and skins look very solid and fit perfectly in the game. The use of polys is very good, especially the well deforming cloth make the look. My only comment there is the eyes, which seem to be too far apart and have a bit of a weird expression. The skull's also way out of proportion with the lower jaw. Still, a very nice and solid player model, nice work!

thanks Skullbox, i was hoping you would comment on mine after i saw the quality of your work.

yeah, i downloaded the epic ones and adjusted them to fit my rig and mesh - the ones that come in the UT packages and the ones you download are dodgy on custom models, and many of the epic ones for that matter. i would have liked to do them all from scratch, but i had so much uni work over last trimester i simply didnt have time to do it before the comp closed. most were virtually redone anyway, but some i was able to leave almost as is.

i went thorugh all the animation frame rates in Ued and made sure they all played at a decent speed. i didnt get to check all of them in game (i had to get it to my mate at uni so he could upload it very soon) so some might be a bit slow or fast, but runs and other moving animations i tryed to get right. problem is the characters ru around so fast in game that when you speed it up so ther is no sliding it can look rediculious. that, and if you have too much up and down movement at fast speeds it looks a little weird too. so i had to take the speed down and reduce the up and down - which goes against a golden rule of animation, but as long as it looks good in game...

i agree with you on the jaw. i didnt realise there was a problem with it until i can to texture it unfortuantly, and i noticed it as when i realised that it made his mouth look pretty small. still, his proportions were never meant o be realistic, so i'll just pass this off as part of the design ;)

i wanted to give him a weird stare, like some pics i found on the net while i was researchin his design, and so that's why the eyes have a 'weird expression' as you mentioned. unless you were talking about something else?

Holy Roman Emperor, Batman!!!

Srry, just couldn't resist... :)

Anyway, I like it. The "clunky" look is kinda cool, IMO... Julius Caesar was supposedly a pretty short guy, and that's a way to make the model look short without actually making it short.

I'm also amazed nobody's thought to do the Roman thing before, what with them being into gladiators and all... /me wants a map to go with this guy.

Of course, this brain trepaning shows the reason for...
...the typical Roman's blank stare.

lol

i changed it so the bio text was in the .upl, but for some reason there seems to be a character limit in there and as a result not all of it showed up.

so i changed it back to good ol' copy/past into Xplayers.

next character i'll write a shorter bio :)

Great model!

However, after I installed him, I kept getting kicked from every single server that had the latest UTSecure or AntiTCC. I'm patched to the latest version & the servers were as well. I didn't even have to have the skin selected as my current model.... it would still kick me. I deleted the files & all was well.

Any suggestions? I'd really like to use him.

very nice original looking model.. kinda familiar looking face though..
Is it just me or does it have an uncanny resemblence to "Dr. Smith" from lost in space ? (the TV show, not the movie)

Looks pretty cool...

It's like the counterpart to the Egyptian models...

I'm glad that it has teamskins, I guess we can forgive you about the Xplayers.int thing, however that is getting overwritten with each patch that Epic puts out, so you might want to shorten the bio and release just the update upl or something...

I think the server needs to have the model on the server as well...

I tested this on my server and it booted me even after I uploaded the model. I think the server may need to be restarted before it recognizes the model.

Rebooted the server today, yeah the server needs to have the model and a reboot before AntiTCC recognizes it as legit.

if i re-release it, which i wont until i get a proper site up or i do another roman styled character as part of a team, i'll shorten the bio to fit in.

all my futer models will fit, now that i am aware of this.

sounds great! it'd be very cool to see a female counterpart to Tiberius (with a lil more armor) ala...

Very nice work. Your model seems really unique. I will most certainly d/w as soon I'm back from vacation.

Oh, and I second UnrealGrrl and Brain Trepaning, Roman girls should be a nice addition.

^^^^ me likes that model, except for the face, where did you get that from (I don't recognize the verbage on the screenshots). That would be a nice model if the armor was "strategically" located but done tastefully :p

Bummer that it doesn't work on a normal server that doesn't push skins. Most admins aren't this proactive, let alone interested in decking out their servers w/skins & models.

Is there any way that Tiberius can be updated to fully support online play without all the extra hassle?

legacy-Iceboy2003

This needs to be updated with a new UPL file. Apparently AntiTCC is looking for custom characters that share names with the ones in XPlayersL1 and XPlayersL2, and there's a default mercenary bot that is called "Tiberius" so this model is causing some headaches for me and my server.

Can you provide a new version (maybe with a new skin or something?)

Or do any other server admins know if I can change the UPL files and still use them on other servers?
