Monitor dying?

My computer monitor sometimes won't turn on. When I have it plugged in, and the computer off, I press the power switch - this usually powers up the monitor, but sometimes nothing happens, as if it was unplugged. Once I was using the computer, and the monitor suddenly turned off. I've pushed the power cable into the monitor as tightly as I could . . is my monitor overheating or is it just time to get a new one? This is an old one used for at least 5 years by now.

Maybe it's the monitor's power switch itself... going bad that is.

I was gonna say it could be that a UV/black light might be affecting at first but then I read what you posted and knew that wasnt your problem so I would say buy a new power cord and if that doesnt work buy a new moniter.
