View Full Version : [gametype] Capture the Vehicles

Just a quick gametype idea I've been thinking about thats a cross between Unreal and GTA.

Basically each team starts out with a set of vehicles at their base and the objective is to go out and steal the other teams vehicles. Each team also has a compound where the stolen vehicles have to be taken to. The winner is the team that gets all the enemies vehicles into their compound first (or whoever has stolen the most when the time limit hits).

To make the game flow better I think that when you destroy a vehicle it should respawn in the same place it was destroyed (rather than back at base). So to hijack an enemy car you firstly blow it up to kill the driver, then when it respawns you try to jump in before someone else. The only problem is if the vehicle gets stuck somewhere or falls off the map, in those cases it'll have to respawn back at the base.

The compounds could just be an area or wormhole on the map (one for each team). And when you drive a stolen vehicle into/through it then it becomes permanently locked (or just disappears from the map).

It'd also be cool if someone designed some GTA themed maps and vehicles for this gametype. The lack of decent multiplayer modes in the GTA games was always a disappointment.

Does this sound like a playable game type? Im considering learning a bit of uscript, so I might start working on this if people think its a good idea.

yes I like , its a good idea, one thing to clairfy tho...once one teams captures a vehicle and has it in its compound, are you thinking ... is it locked there or can the other team get it out ??

I havent really decided how the compound should work. There could be a method to release vehicles, although it would have to be tricky otherwise everyone would camp there.

The other alternative is to have it like the goals in bombing run. So when you drive through it the vehicle is destroyed and taken out of play. You'd have to jump out and let it coast through if you didnt want to be destroyed with it :)

Or maybe you could just do away with the compound idea. Instead you could just have to drop the enemy vehicles down a hole or off the bottom of the map. Then you could actually barge other vehicles down the hole sumo style.

Totaly Agree Guys!

sounds so cool. and i like the idea that the cars dont get taken streight back to the base or they would just keep getting blown up and you would never be able to get them back to your base!

spawning in the same place as it died would be kool!

would it not be kool to have one "carrier" type vehicle? that all the team can get into (truck, large plane) and then like all get out at once and attack the base in one large number to give the team a better chance?

also if you had a plane, you could download that mod wich gives you a parachoooot! and then your team could all jump out at once and float down to the others base!
