How can I make a backup copy of my UT2004 Play Disc (DVD). I really don't want to take the risk of damaging my DVD disc and I definitely don't want to use a nocd crack (risk of getting my cdkey stolen is too high)

Any1 know if it's possible to make a working backup copy of my DVD?

(and please, I have the original version, so don't go assuming I'm a warez kiddie)

CloneCD will work IF it now supports DVD format, although im really not sure. Alcohol 120% can probably do it as well. Another alternative is to make an image of the disc onto your hard disk, then mount the image as a virtual drive with daemon tools. DT can also emulate various copy protections so this should do the trick.

Deamon tools virtual mounting will not work, you will still be asked for the original DVD. Just use a nocd crack from a respectable site - you will never have a problem.

I do NOT want to use a nocd crack. Too risky getting a faulty one which steals the cdkey.

Anyway, I think cd protection like this only hurts the customer that actually buys the game. It does NOTHING to prevent pirates. I would have NO problem with a cd check at install level (which as far as I know does not exist) but NOT a cd check when launching a game.

Imo, the best copy protection would be :
* cd check upon install. this would disencourage a lot of pirates since it's harder to crack and repackage an installer. now pirates just copy the cd/dvd and can install without a problem
* a cdkey for online play (like it is now)

But a cd check every time some1 launches the game is just an annoyance. It does NOTHING to prevent warez. I really wonder how companies like SecuRom keep on convincing publishers that this is the right thing to do. They must have one hell of a marketing department.

It is not risky at all using a nocd crack, dont be such a square lol ;)

I've used my nocd crack since day 1, and never ever had a 'cd key invalid/in use' message. I also bought a legit version of the game (twice, my dvd version did not work properly) but could not be bothered to put the disk in. Seriously, use a nocd crack, its really useful and IS NOT risky if you get it from the right place.

Get a no-cd crack. From a respectable crack website. End of story.

See, another nocd crack supporter. TBH hans_vdc - it seems that you have read a post about cd key stealers and though 'oh god that happens all the time'. Its pretty tragic, as i use a nocd on every single one of my legit games and never had a problem. It ranks alongside the 'oh my god im never using kazaa again, the riaa will sue me' thing.
