I like playing LMS and Team LMS with lives set to 1 so nobody will respawn. This makes the maps change very rapidly and that annoys me. It would be better if the maps would last longer than just one round, hence my suggestion. I've pretty much gotten the idea from Action Half-Life's LMS and teamplay with rounds modes so it might look familiar for some of you. I guess AHL or Action Quake 2 teamplay with rounds is similar to Counter Strike with objectives and the silly money system removed. Everybody is familiar with CS gameplay, aren't they?

Basic idea: After a round ends, everybody dead respawns and there is a brief countdown and the new round begins. In FFA LMS the map changes after someone reaches the goal score or the time limit is reached. Maybe there should be some score bonus for winning a round too. Doubling the frags made on that round, perhaps? In team LMS the map changes when one team has won enough rounds (number set by the server) or when time limit is reached. It would be nice to allow the players finish the last round before changing map when time limit is reached.

Time limit for rounds: The big problem in LMS is when someone camps and makes everybody else wait. This can be alleviated by setting a time limit for rounds. If the round time limit is reached, the round ends and one of the survivors is declared a winner. The winner is determined primarily by frags scored on that round and secondarily by total damage caused. However, if none of the survivors killed anybody, the round is declared a draw.

Additional features (these would be optional, turned on or off by server):
Random weapon: All players spawn with one random non-super weapon in addition to normal starting weapons.
No health pickups: All health pickups removed, maybe the booster adrenaline combo as well.
Secrecy: Kill/Death messages and scoreboard can only be seen by dead people. The "You killed so and so" message is removed. Only way for someone alive to know who's dead is by asking.

I'd be happy to see the basic idea implemented and adding time limit would be prudent. The additional features are not necessary, just "it would be neat".

I will be releasing a gametype similar to this as part of my Elimination 2k4 package.

Elimination Tournament Edition

This a round based version of Elimination. In each round, players
have a certain number of lives (as specified in the rules). When
there is only one player left, the round ends. At the end of each
round, scores are evaluated and compared to the score limit. If
there is a winner then the game is over. Otherwise, a new
round begins. The game will also end if there has been a time
limit specified and it expires.

Players score points in the following ways:

10 points for a 1st place finish in a round
6 points for a 2nd place finish in a round
3 points for a 3rd place finish in a round
1 point for a kill
-1 point for a suicide

Look for this to be released in the next couple of days
