*UPDATE* I've completed Zeitkind with better texture placement, item placement and spawnpoints that are more true to the original. Excel has kindly done the pathnodes for the map. He did a great job too, they run all over the place. For the updated map only, see the download below. I also added the download for the whole package. If someone would please mirror it I would REALLY appreciate it! Thank you for all your help and suggestions everyone. My next project will be converting this to an onslaught map. That will happen in a few weeks, unless someone wants to take it on, you're more than welcome just contact me. My email is in the readme file.
Description: This is a TDM Urban Warfare map with lots of camping spots and hiding places. It's best suited for over 20 players playing sniper arena. This is a port from Juergen Vierheilig's UT99 version, and I tried to stay as true to it as possible. I hope I did it justice. It has always been my favorite map. I hope everyone enjoys it, especially the campers ;)
Comments: My first map :) This map was ported from Ut99 to UT2k3 by =ST=Viper. I was looking for a map that had more of the original's feel, so I decided to give it a go. I retextured about 70% of Viper's version and item placement and spawnpoints were redone to match the original version. I also added lift triggers, lighting, the skylift and replaced all the billboards with the original images. I also scaled the map so you don't move across as quickly. I cut the original 20+ textures down to under 10; I wish I could have cut it down more but I don't have the knowledge yet. The download weighs in at 17MB, but it is a huge map.

Not the biggest fan of DM, but I really wish you would make this into an urban setting ONS, AS, and/or CTF map!!! Looks amazing

Only problem I've noticed so far is that the windows don't block anything, stuff just passes through them. But, I'm sad I missed out on this earlier, lots of fun to be had in this map.

Haven't played original version, but this reminds me of some oldschool Action Quake 2 maps, though they never were this huge. Some textures are scaled and aligned poorly, but that is no big deal in this case. I guess my biggest complaint would be that a couple of interior areas were too dark to navigate. I had to fire my assault rifle just to provide enough light to see the walls so I could find my way out of spawn point.
I put some vehicles in it with CL4 and it was pretty fun. There needs to be more continuous strips of drivable routes, though. This kind of map that takes vehicles in account would be mad fun.

I tried to keep that true to the original, the ones that blocked you in the original still do, and vice versa. Or did I screw up on a glass texture somewhere?

just tried the map with the mutator that gives you vehicles (CL-4), and its great! the bots are sneaky and hide in the buildings :p i could get almost everywhere in a scorpion, exept the lifts go straight thru them :haha: overall: fab level :up:

Damn i used to love playing this map on the SOB server on unreal original with 150 ping 56k dialup . There were a few huge urban style maps that used to rotate on some servers , they were awesome . Moonbase ? i think was another huge urban , warehouse , cityscape . Used to kill my P3 500 Voodoo 3 but loved them anyway .

There is not a single bot path in this map...... not one apple:( For instant action its unplayable.
*edit* Im going to have to uninstall for now. Hopefully it will have bot support soon cause it is a cool map with an old UT1 feel.

Yeah, it's pretty bad on single player. Bots get stuck on walls and repeatedly run over the same weapon pickup...over and over again.
Yeah, and I'm sorry about that. I rushed this one out because we needed this type of map on our sniper arena. I'm learning about bot pathing though, and it will be updated for the pro, onslaught and a future vehicle CTF version.

It only happens if I start our server with your map... Other maps work fine. Now I have the server setup to start from other map, then manually switch the map to Zeitkind.

Forgot to mention, too bad you didn't see the original Unreal version. It had deployable mine, Air Strike request, and a couple of stationary turrets. The 24/7 Zeitkind Unreal server that was hosted in Buffalo was a lot of fun. :up:
I did see the original :) We're trying to emulated the fraggalonia UT99 server, so I don't think it would fit ;)
I'm not sure about the error, I'll check around. I read somewhere else that someone was crashing when they were trying to start up with a custom map. I"ll try to find some similarities.

It would be a little hard with all the redeemer and ion painter. ;) :D
I've just added an ONS weapon, Mine Layer, into our server. Feel a bit more like the old days. :)

Well.. I will take a close look at it... ;)
But let's clear up some things...
Jürgen made this map because he lost almost all matches against me in his map before, called "DM-Darkfall". So DM-Zeitkind is in fact a DM-Anti-Zeitkind map.. ;)
It was made way before UT came out and was never really finished. The reason for is is quite simple: It was too big for most cpu's and gpu's thoses days and noone really played this map because most people had about 5 frames/s.. :D
We both had some faster machines and Voodoo 3-cards, so we were able to play it, but.. well.. always loosing wasn't a thing he liked that much - so he made DM-Zahltag.. which is nothing more than "DM-Payday" - the next anti-Zeitkind-map.. ;)
We soon started to play UT-CTF, so he made a rough port to UT and a rough extension to CTF-Zeitkind, but working on older maps isn't that funny, so all later version were not really that nice.
Anyway, we are both glad to see that this map is still around, Jürgen just downloded this new version and we'll see.. if he is much better now.. ;)

Could you let him know that Zeitkind and Zahltag are still in the rotation at Fraggalonia and have been for 5 years? LOL.
I think I'm nervous now LOL.
Is there any chance he'd ever get back into level design? I love his work so much, It would be so cool to see a map from him again.

Yea, I do remember my Voodoo 3 was struggling at the Unreal version of the DMZeitkind. We still had a lot of fun with it though. We, myunreal.com, has dedicated a server just for Zeitkind since the Unreal days. Thank you for your inpiration to Jürgen to create such great fun map.

By the way, since this new port of DM-Zeitkind came out for UT2004, we just make another server for it called "MyUnreal.com (18B) Zeitkind ONE map only" at 209.10.98.18:7700 Drop by later tonight and have some fun. :)

I tried a port of this sucker under HS SPoT, but I didnt like the way it was turning out. Ill have to take a look at it and see how you did Flak.

Try this map with the Arial View and Zark Assault Rifle Mutators, it kicks ass. It's a really good combo.

Seems like the weapon placement is different. I distinglishly remember a couple of places that I could get the sniper rifle and it is not there now.
One of the place is the room immediately right above the water. People used to crotch at the dark corner and snipe. That corner is so dark, only the ammo casing and the sniper ammo respawn gives the sniper's position away.
Another place I'm not 100% sure is on top of some building. After you ride up an elevator, the SR is right there with some ammo.

Yay for pathnoding! I want the hapless bots wandering on streets so I can snipe them or maybe run over them with CL4 summoned vehicles.

All maps seem darker in 2k4 than in 2k3.
Flak, what are your brightness, contrast, and Gamma settings?
Do you use default settings?

Check out the building textures too. Some are misaligned..

No problem. As long as the filename is different to avoid version mismatch, it's just a simple upload to our server. :) Compare to all the time you put into the map, my work of simply hosting it is nothing. ;)

If this is final. WOOHOO! It's installed now.
We're talking about actual modern maps now and not futuristic unreal maps, not saying I don't like them but it's nice for a change.

Love this map, play on fraggalonia (NL) occasionally, but there's a slight problem, 8 out of 10 times I seem to spawn inside that one building that has the sort of desk/reception thing going on inside of it, and so does everyone else, and everybody just seems to walk outside between the tunnel and the water bit and starts jumping around, while the map is so much more fun when everybody's sneaking around! I love the sniping part, but if you want to win you're better off 'instagibbing' infront of that building :(

Did you put all the files in the right folder? I checked the zip, and that file is in there.
If you just unzip it to your UT2k4 folder all the files should go into the right folders.
.utx goes in textures.
If that's not it, try downloading it from faster files, Maybe you got a corrupt download.

Well I don't know what to do here, since this was supposedly a Final. I'm thinking of fixing the spawnpoint making the water transparent and fixing the textures that are mismatched, and putting the new version on my own forums. I'll let you guys know if I do that, I just don't think another big release is a good idea.
I've learned a lot from my first mapping experience, IE, don't post a final until it's REALLY done. (And I need to get better beta testers ;) )

I really hope you decide to do everything you have stated here. The spawn points are all too close together. I have this map on our server and while I have always been a huge fan of it it doesn't play like it did in UT99. By this I mean that 90% of the fighting took place near the water with the damage amp. There is soooo much more to this map but with spawn points so close together it just basically turns into a FFA all in one part of a huge map.
As for better beta testers check us out at www.liandri.com . We have a bunch of old school and new school players that love the huge sniper maps even though our DM server (1 of 3 servers I might add :))is just a RW DM server. We have a resident mapper by the name of =A!M=e.Byte that has recieved a Cliffy ownage map award for his map "Somber Eve". I like to think that we know what we are talking about when it comes to critiquing a map.
