I noticed that I gained major performance by turning off speech recognition in UT2004 and uninstalling the SpeechRedist package. Why have something running that (most people) never use?
The more bots in the game, the more this affects you. Even if you turn it off in UT, the SpeechRedist software ALWAYS tries to catch the mic in Windows. I tried playing with speech recognition, but personally I found it easier just to use the menus to order bots. Now I'm getting about 5-10 more fps (no speech recognition -> less CPU time -> more time spent calculating geometry).
