Everytime i play ut2004 it begins to slow down like crazy, esecially in later levels. and the load times are ridiculous. the system im using is a Abit NF7 Ultra XP 2800 overclocked with an ATI 9800 pro. 512 MB PC 3200, all other games play fine except this one. is it the game itself or is it my hardware?

I have the sme problem....

I have a genuine P4 2.400 mhz. 512 mb and Geforce 5600 XT 128 mb video cart with version 53 detonator driver.

the game runs TERRIBLE... it is lagging like hell, i tried to shut down all other applications like msn and DAP while playing the game. It won't help anything.

anyone got an idea?

any help is very appreciated!

i have:
win XP
512 mb
2.400 mhz.
maxtor 120
maxtor 60
dvdrom
lite on dvd burner
fx 5600 XT 128 mb

the game is extremely lagging in single player mode when playing lvl's with many players. like the CTF lvl with the korean temple's.

what can I do to make it playable?

i've been told that the more bots you have in any instances on any maps the more calculations your cpu will have to process to make it work!

So basically, what is it that we have to do to get rid of this problem?

We have to annoy the phuck outta Atari until they release a fix for it, at least IMO from what ive been seeing so far from the other threads..........My problem is the mouse lag, others on this thread are having issues with frame rates and choppyness.

Genuine P4 2.0

I was actually able to find a solution! Well its a solution for me and now allows me to play with all my settings set to the highest possible and with the highest resolution. I just hope that it lasts!!!

Turn off "Preload all player skins." All of you guys look like 512 megs ram people, so this may help a lot.

Oh yeah, and what are the typical ranges for your framerates? Mines is usually 40 to 60. 20 at really heavy action.

If we had 1GB of Ram, could we leave it on?

You could, but most people have been suggesting that you just leave it off period. It decreases load times, and in the long run you have less skins loaded onto memory during a game.

So I would suggest leaving it off, no matter what memory you have.

Does it make any difference on online play?

1. What graphics settings you have make no difference on your ping speed, first of all.

2. Occasionally when someone joins in with a different skin, your comp would have to load that new skin, but it's just one skin, shouldn't even take a quarter second. But in the sum total, you still have less skins loaded onto RAM, meaning more space on memory for everything else, meaning faster action and FPS.

my UT2004 loaded so slow before. then, i managed to clear about 15gb (bumping me up to 25gb free) because norton systemworks had been backing up so much of my deleted stuff in case i wanted to go bring them back...heh.

i defragged (a 2nd time right after the first one finished, actually) using the windows xp disk defragmenter and it helped loading times a LOT. maps load in less than half the time it took before (didn't really time it, but it's very noticable. i'm guessing that the loading screen only stays up for less than a minute). there's still a delay between when the setup screen appears and when i can actually move and play, but that delay has been reduced significantly as well. it used to take another minute i think, but now it's down to seconds.

my system:

-athlon 1700+
-512mb ram
-nvidia gf3 ti 200 (oc'd moderately, i only have the stock cooling)
-4x pioneer dvd-r burner (what i use for loading the UT2k4 disc)
-120gb maxtor hd w/ 25gb free
-windows xp pro

i set the video settings in UT2004 to:
-direct3d
-1024x768
-(i don't remember the specific settings on the section to the right, but the first two are set to high, the rest are normal)
-all the checkboxes on the bottom right are checked except trilinear filtering is left unchecked.
-precaching was turned off, along with speech recognition (don't know if that affects anything in performance, but oh well)
-3d audio (not h/w)
-(outside of UT2004 in nvidia control panel) v-sync is set to always off and mipmap detail is set to blend in direct3d

seeing that the detail isn't turned up so high, i guess you can see why it might be running smooth, but i'm satisfied and maybe someone else out there might be satisfied with this kevel of performance

this setup runs well in my opinion both in single player and multiplayer, considering that my system is getting old (was mid-range two years ago, hehe).

ok this post is too long, hope this helps someone out there.

i also did a full clean-up followed by a defrag and yes it did a big difference and i tried for the first time to play this at 640-480, all settings on high, decals=off, preload skins=off and in my video control panel i set FSAA=4, Anisotropic=8, vsync=always off,all other settings to high quality! i was really surprise to see how good it looks with all those high quality settings and the full scene anti-aliasing! oh yeah, and in my ut2004 ini file i set my refresh rate to 120 for this resolution!and with those settings i barely see the tearing effect from having the vsync off! i even pluged my pc to my 27 inches tv set just to see! felt like playing an xbox game with nice graphics!

I agree .. I have 1gig of RAM and found that switch on ... holy lag batman. The description says that high end compters can take advantage of some of these flags ... wtf do they consider high end? I have a 3.0 processor (HT) and it still killed it.
