Hi.. y'know when you take a screenshot (F9) it saves the picture to a .bmp format...

All web dudes know that .bmp is not good for the web.. right? well.. how would you go about changing the default format of the pictures when they are outputted from the game itself???

Without going into a program and re-saving it as .jpg..

Will the full verion have support for .jpg??

The use bmp is ok so you can work with them before they have any form of compression, or changes to the picture.

But what if you don't want to change anything in the picture?? Would there be a facility in the full that allows for .jpg output??

probably not.
for 2k3 there is a prog called screensort that will do all ya pics at once or just ones u select.

it even has a lil preview. it will prolly work for 2k4 too.

or use paint :bulb:

I thought companies had to pay for a license to use JPG (output) now too... ?

dont think you have to pay for jpeg, but gif did have a license issue. If you really want a format that isnt gonna give license problems you could do png.

Yeah, I know you gotta pay for GIF (Unisys or something...?) but I thought a couple years ago some company came out and said it owned JPEG and would be charging for future licenses :bulb:.

PNG works though (even if most people have no clue what it is :haha: )

i made a screenshots convertor for ut & ut2003 that will automaticly convert em to jpg once u closed ure game. U can choose jpg compression also as well as moving it to another directory (not really usefull for 2k4 since there is a screenshots folder now).

If there are enough people intrested i'll make a version for 2k4 as well otherwise not cause the game really doesn't intrest me anymore.

PNG is portable network graphic, my avatar is a png. they also support alpha transparency, although IE doesnt support it correctly, i would recomend using a better browser like firefox, or mozilla. (better standards complience too)

Actually your avatar looks the same to me in Firefox as it does in IE. :p

their is a CSS hack to fix the transparent pngs in IE. IE can go to hell imo.

anyone who has done web development would agree with me.

Pngs ARE NOT bigger. Here is how it works. A bitmap stores every pixel as 3 3 digit numbers for the amount of each color in each pixel. Making it extremely large, and have as many colors as you want.. A GIF has a set palette and stores each pixel as a single number for its corresponding color. This makes it small, but only 256 colors. A PNG gives you the best of both worlds. It makes it's own palette of however many colors you have and stores each pixel as a number corresponding to its color. This makes a PNG larger than a GIF, but smaller than a BMP. It is kind of like if GIF and BMP had a love child.
