View Full Version : Why there will be no European DVD SE..

As much as I'd like there to be one it won't happen and here's why I think so:
We live in a world of political correctness gone mad, therefore when a 15 hour DVD of instruction movies is made in English/American (probably with voiceovers in the same language) it is incorrect to release it into countries which do not speak English/American as there first language ( i.e. Germany, France etc). As the UK is part of the EU’s release area we will probably have to suffer with everyone else in the EU. I guess it’s a lot of work to transfer 15 hours into several languages I just hope they do it one day. I may be wrong of course, in fact I hope I am… but I doubt it.

Um... dude, the uk/europe version of the special edition of ut2004 has been confirmed just the other day by some atari dude called Gangrel. I would link the thread but I can't seem to find it.
I think the issue now is not 'weather europe will get the SE' but rather 'dammit where can I get the SE!!!' Because nobody knows of any online retailer that are doing pre-orders. But I expect that to change any time now.

Atari may be saying its coming out, but I don't think it will be released on the same release date, would you buy a game that wasn't in your home langauge? Would you be happy if it was released in your country and not in your langauge?

well actually his last post said:
"I'm awaiting a response from my colleague in London on the UK release of the DVD-SE (aka "I'm working on this").
It's never been a question of whether or not I KNOW what's going on. I do. I just choose not to say something that'll get me chewed out or could damage a relationship with retailer.
I've updated other threads on the confusion between the different skus that are going to be available. It's a matter of what I can and can't say publicly. However, YOUR interest in pre-ordering our product (specifically this one) has made me take action personally to resolve the confusion. Thanks again for your patience."
seems like a load of misdirection to me - arse/elbow orientation diagram handy anyone? Still, keeping my fingers crossed, Id like to get the SE.

I live in the Netherlands, I always install everything in English, even if I can get it in Dutch, I hate those silly dutch translations, they take the fun of the game away (as long as your in the menu that is), I don't know if you french and German guys are too lazy to learn English, but hey.. that's your choice.

And why is that? There is a large playerbase in Europe, distributing to Europe = bigger profits. 'luck' has nothing to do with it.

'luck' meaning that you can buy a product from another country that you didn't make. Some country's are not allowed to buy foreign products, especially ones from the US. So yes they are lucky to get to play UT based games.

mabye there not lazy mabye they are, but we dutch guys are a bit unlucky :( we HAVE to learn english (as well german as french) on school. As far as i know the French dont have it on there schools, germans am not sure. So i wouldnt understand english so good if it wasnt for school.
And because the most cool games or apps are not translated in dutch, we are using the english version. Thats also different in germany and French i mean most games have versions of both languages. So there probarly not lazy :D they just not used to not have there own version, or the dont learn other language on school.
I hate those silly dutch translations
YEAH, they suck.

Yes I don't care. Or even I hate games in my own language (dutch). And epic would be crazy to localize 150 hours of video tutorials into any language..
And yes the SE and normal version will be released simultaniously..

I don't know what you're getting at. Are you saying the US doesn't import anything  ?
European countries don't have some despot as a leader who bans all imports, believe it or not, they're on par with the US.
