Heya again

Its been a while since I produced anything.

This is my latest creation, DM-Captivity. It's based around DM-1on1-Crash (the modern techy style) and DM-Oceanic, two of my favourite DM maps. It is a medium/small map with varied areas of combat.

It's main features are the shark pools and the custom "console shark death message". (Thanks to AngelMapper for this). In certain areas of the map, especially near more powerful items, there is a hazardous pool of sharks below. If you fail the jump to the Keg, or fall off the walkway by the rocket launcher, or if you fall off the walkways by the shock rifle and lifts (or if you stupidly jump into them) you are eaten by the sharks.

I'm pleased with this map. I hope you are too, and please leave a few comments you have about the map. Thank you.

A quick thing about the sharks...
It seems they were made to circle around you, not to be seen from the other side, because they are missing some fins if you look at them the wrong way.
Also at times the sharks disappear completely, I think when intersecting with static meshes, or eachother.
(I'm not even sure what the sharks are; not brushes, nor static meshes, but pawns, like players, or whatever Epic/Unreal calls them.)

Perhaps it would be fun if you set the water so that you die instantly... only after an instant, i.e. have it substract a large amount of health after maybe a second, to give the sharks some time to get to you, story-wise?

I'm sorry, but I don't have time to actually play-test this map right now.
The layout seems to be interesting though, and the water/shark gimmick is nice.

Yeah I saw the "vanishing shark" trick. Do they actually attack you? If so the water volume is set to cause too much damage too quickly as you dont see the shark come for you. That water is like lava, only blue lava it kills you so quick.
As far as the vanishing shark goes I think its something to do with the alphas or the way the glass texture is modulated (or not) showing certain types of textures behind it.
Its something to do with the way the engine calculates the draw order, you can fiddle with the textures properties but you would have to rename them to the my Level package otherwide you would permanently alter the stock texture pack it belongs in, not good. It might be best if you did this with just your chosen glass texture as I dont know if fiddling the sharks skin might cause problems with the actual in game model. The sharks dont vanish in Oceanic though so I am pretty sure its to do with your chosen glass texture, is it DXT5? I suspect you chose that particular glass texture as it sooks like the white element of the texture you used is a workaround for not being able to create a water volume that looks like a water volume, at least when viewed from the outside of it. You can set up a shimmering water effect to make it look more like water with a projector. The swirling water effect can be set to shimmer on the sharks too. That might be a very nice effect.
Other thank that nice map

Map looks cool, but I'd like to see some skins on the Static Meshes in there

Whoa, Zed... blindsided!! I didn't know this was coming, but I'll be sure to give it a good run tomorrow. It looks nice from the screenshots.
