Riftwar: Campaigns brings the original Unreal Tournament 2003 partial conversion to the next logical level - a massive war campaign. No longer are games isolated incidents, now twelve maps have been divided between three different worlds to form one complete game. Defend your world and use the riftgates to take the battles to your opponent's. Take the capitol and you take the control of the world. The first to control all three worlds wins the Riftwar.

I'm opening up the beta to get final feedback before sending it off to the MSUC.

To download the latest version and read up on more of the changes since the previous version:

Riftwar Forum (http://www.inkless.com/forums/thread.php?threadid=32&boardid=6)

Not insisting on people signing in or registering, it's just easier to keep the links and the many notes that already there in one place.

EDF Central (link in sig) is currently running the latest version as well.

Sounds cool, I'll check it out when I get home.

I think it's possible that the ini that was zipped defaults the player to be an Alien Warrior.

If so - just hit Escape at any time in the game, and "change class" to update your class.

If you use the custom menus (you can launch it from the instant action game rules tab) - there's also a place to set your class there.

I'll check this out for sure when I get home.

Ok, you load up the riftwar gametype and there are no maps... Bugger

EDIT: read your forum and saw add
-mainmenu=SBMenu.SBMainMenu
to a shortcut to UT2003. Problem sorted:up:

Another edit: But the problem isn't sorted, where is index.ut2? and what is the password to your server?

It sounds like maybe you didn't get all the files extracted. To start an offline game, all you have to do is go Instant Action, select "Riftwar" and press play. There's only one map in the maplist - RFW-Void, and it serves basically as a bookmark. When you restart an offline campaign, the game will take you back to wherever you left it.

If you really have no maps in the list, you might not have extracted RFW-Void. Or if you go to the Instant Action/Game Rules tab and press the "Riftwar Main Menu" button and everything goes blank, you might be missing SBMenu.u or SImages.utx. Check your logs or just try the zip again. Some people connected to EDFC yesterday, so I think the zip should have everything you need.

EDFC is passworded down because I was fixing the bit where everyone started as an Alien. Since I was in there anyway, I decided to go ahead and add in a few new things, like a "top player" list to the server details. Try it offline for now, I'll have the new version and EDFC back tonight.

Oh - you can alter the maplist by altering Riftwarfare.ini - but I don't recommend it just yet and until I give a rundown of how it works.

The next major version of Riftwar will likely have some kind of campaign editor.

Lemme run this down for people who don't want to hunt it down on the XForums.

Riftwar is played more or less like the last one. There's still three teams, three classes each. There are still two main games - a deathmatch variant and a domination variant.

The twist now is that the maps are setup to be linked together. There are four maps for each world, one world per team. To paraphrase RW fan carmatic, from there deathmatch is just straight advance/retreat , but on a DOM map its advance, or get rifted into somewhere else. If you press your way to the last map of the world, the capitol, and defeat the defending team - you take control of the world.

Aside from that, as you win battles you increase your research (read: chance to get) into new items for your team. These increase the default health, ammo, etc. for your entire team.

The map Void has a filename spelling error. You released it as RWF-Void instead of RFW-Void which means that many people will not have been able to beta test your Campaing gametype.

Dangit!

The link on the forums is to a fixed zip.

Or you can download it from here (http://inkless.com/riftwar/riftwar146.zip) .

I'm opening up EDFC now too. Sorry about that peeps. Had tried the version before 143 with a clean box and thought only the class file had changed.

Click the EDF Central link in my sig to see the server/war's status...

Changes currently in the cooker:

- Removal of client choice for class, will be done ingame since this still doesn't work right. (You'll be able to preview but not choose until you join/start/restart a game).

- Skeletons slightly tougher

- Death Staff slightly tougher

- Vampirism: Shaman and Skeletons get slight health back (10%) when doing damage

- Fix RL pickup, Hex Rifle priority

- Looking into how top scores are being kept (see http://inkless.com/edfcentral/ for a sample) ... appears to drop accounts if you change your name.

- Behemoths on FluxII dropped to 1

- Allies should stop attacking other allies (bad manta!).

Should also note that your score won't save to the server if you don't wait for the level change.

I'm going to password EDFC for a bit while I try some new code.

New version posted on the forum link (or here: http://inkless.com/riftwar/riftwar146.zip)

Haven't been able to cleanbox test the new zip, but I hope it's OK.

Changes listed above are in. Server/Client accounts seem to be running correctly, including the top player reports.

This one is probably close to final, with some minor tweaks remaining.
