Whats the most frightning situation you can think of for a game?:weird: ;)
What do you think would make for a stress saturated, O Shi* , situation with in a game?........
"Seeing as you're on the hostile planet of Mars, you won't want to puncture the base, unless you fancy a quick death. Hollenshead revealed that if you do happen to shatter one of the complex's windows it creates a vacuum, forcing the area to automatically seal off from the rest of the base, in demonstrating this, red alarms went off throughout the facility, creating some dramatic lighting effects as our marine tried to locate a properly sealed area of the facility where he could breathe freely once again, and with all the shooting you're going to be doing, what are the chances of not sending a stray bullet through the windows at some stage."

Reminds me of X-Com Apocalypse, anyone played it?
It was a game where you had a team of soldiers trained to deal with hostile aliens determined to take over the earth and you were payed by several companies to keep the aliens out of their territory basically.
Once my team had to clear out a companies facilities wich had big panorama windows and a lot of sensitive equipment.
In earlier missions i had been able to clear them out without any major damage to any of the companies buildings but this time around i was nervous of some nasty new aliens that had arrived and when they started to appear they killed my crew really fast.
So i pulled out the big artillery, high explosives, bazookas, grenades etc. and when doing so totally demolished their pretty fancy building. :haha:
Usually the companies gradually became less willing to fund the X-com if you didnt deal with the threat to their liking, but this time the company decided to withdraw all their funding to the X-com immidiately. :sour:
A good old game, especially the first one in the series,UFO Enemy Unknown. Its a really old game but i bet a lot of people would like it even today.

Throw you right in the action(Halo)
Make you get to know the character and his associates(Half- life intro):D
ect. ect.
I think the story line plot for Half-Life in the beining was perfect.....and it seem Doom is heading the same way.....read this article in this scaned MAG article detaling Doom IIIs story board :) it realy gets you to pay atention and has a very weighted feel wich is a sigh of a great story.....

Aye Tobbe. X-Com Enemy Unknown (a.k.a. X-Com UFO) is one of the scariest games ever! Nothing as wicked as walking around a corner only to find out there's an alien behind you... that shoots IMMEDIATLY. That defenitly scores a 9/10 on the "Oh sh*t!" factor.

Various landmark moments of gaming for me:
Doom 1 creeping me out.
Resident Evil made me jump and shout "OH SH1T!" when the dog jumps through the window the first time. And when a zombie grabbed my leg for the first time.
I was sh1t scared when facing Sephiroth at the end of Final Fantasy 7. This guy was so fcuking mean he made Darth Vader look like Little Mary Sunshine.
The first time I saw a Titan in that arena in Unreal.
Half Life 1 was duff. The entire thing took place in a damn airvent. I felt like dirty linen at a large hotel. Over-rated. The Emperors Clothes. (Then again my friend ruined alll the best bits for me)
Silent Hill 1 creeped and freaked me out. Silent Hill 2 was duff. SH 3 I dunno cos I aint played it yet.
Deus Ex when you had to escape from MJ12. Very tense.

My eyes are watering and i'm shuddering just thinkin about that....
When the blood disappears from the room's reflection, then starts to cover your reflection in the mirror.....then you move, your relfection doesn't, and the room your in starts to get covered in blood.

The first time I played RE game I was at my GF house(yeah she's into those kinda games:p), and she was showing me how to play RE2.
So I was walking down an hallway, and then everything got all quiet. SO I kept walking and....BOOM!....this big ass zombie burst through the wall:eek: I almost ****ted myself, while she was just laughing her head off. I learned 2 things that day:
1) Games can be scary

Not to be the pro-mo guy but..........I think Doom III has goten a bad rap.......I feel fine talking about this here because Doom is no competition with 2004 they are compleat oposites....for many reasons......speed, game play, One realy has no multi player, the other realy has no singal player:haha: Ime going to play Doom once it gets dark and UT at first light:D ..........
I think Carmack realy sees Doom III as the game that will be the show piece of his carear , not that he wont eclips it many times over in games to come but, every critic has sed Doom is steps above any thing.....contrary to some and as a "show piece" is remarcable........and that they all think that Doom realy could have shiped this year......but Carmack is holding it back so that every idea every itch he wants satisied "is ":)
He wants every thing orcastrated sound, light, shadow, pitch.
He has over seen every thing he has researched the engine since Quakes inception........
this will not be a mere eye blead......... ;)

Actually, it was in the third one. I can't remember which floor of the hospital it was on (2nd or 3rd?) but it was freaky (in that psychologicaly damaging sort of way).
I'll have to go back and play the original Silent Hill someday, it sounds pretty creepy from what I've heard. I think the third is coming to the PC sometime in october.

Resident Evil games for the Gamecube, those are what comes close to frightening .... apart from that, I though Project Zero aka Fatal Frame was pretty scary. Haven't checked Silent Hill yet. In general what scares me most, is sound, not images. That goes for movies and for games. To me, the things I find scary are hardly scary when I turn off the sound. Fatal Frame has so far the scarriest sounds in a game for me.

For me its still UT:MOD:Infiltration

I'd have to go with Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Reqiuem on the Gamecube. THAT is a game that doesn't rely on cheap scares and gore to freak you out, it does it through loss of sanity, and the story. It's the only game I've ever known that's gotten an M rating because of the story (not really, but you have to be about that age to get anything out of it).
That game WILL scare the pants off ya :D

Scariest situtation in an online game is being alone in my base and the entire opposing team is trying to get my flag. :D
As far as single player games, the first time I went down the dark crypt in Return to Na Pali and I was attacked by a bunch of large acid-spitting spiders. I hate spiders. With a passion. I couldn't play the game for awhile until I got past that. No doubt scariest level I ever played, in any game.

As someone said, AvP2 as the Marine, in a dark room, sound up high, the motion detector booping away to itself, then suddenly starts pinging as something starts heading towards you, something you can't see...
The other one that sticks in my mind is that level in Doom 2 where you walk into a tiny room containing a Cyber Demon and a Spider Demon, and all you can do is run around hoping not to get killed...

I think somethings wrong with me. I've played them all. The dooms, silent hills and eternal and nothing scared me. I knew I was supposed to be scared but it just never clicked. Even if I had all the lights turned off and the sound on high.
In UT2k3 when I try to use stealthy manuvers to sneak up on enemies I get so focused that when I get headshotted or gibbed by an ultra shock rifle I jump straight into the air, literally. I've fallen out of my chair on multiple occasions because of that.:bulb: I like to do the scaring, which I try to do as best I can. And the AI just is..well AI to me. One of the most satisfing things in 2003 is using invisability and grabing the flack and silently inst-flak killing people point blank:D its great!!!!!!!
I think Doom will be the one to emerse you so much and take so much concentration.....that you will be freeked by some one caling your name from the kitchen......
In Doom you have dioreinting effects, torerance levals i.e heart, air, having to manualy reload and being able to use the but of your gun to do just about any thing....smash windows piece by piece......rock spme fat zombes head ect..
I don't know if you heard this yet but in some interview they talked about id giving your charicter the ability to be able to use his feet to hold strugling zombies underneeth him as he continues to fire at on coming foes.........then being able to ither give a point blank shot to the head or a hit to the head with the but of the rifle.... :D

It's probrably because you don't allow yourself to get into the game. The whole time you are keeping the realization that the game isn't real and it's just on your computer screen.
