Hi there

I had a friend download the file ut2003-lnxded-2225.tar.bz2 on his Windows machine. He wrote it disk for me, but when I copy the file to my PC (Windows) the file has only a .tar extension.
I am going to install this on a Linux box (dedicated LAN server), but am concerned about the file. I am going to use the guide at www.unrealadmin.org to set up the server.
Will this file still be OK or do I need the rename it and add the .bz2 extension?

Thanks

how did the file extension get changed?:bulb:

Linux doesn't care about the extension. Just unpack it using bzip, bzcat, or tar -xjf or whatever suits you best. If you're uncertain run file <filename> to see what type of file Linux thinks it is... :)

The extension was lost because Windows is braindamaged when it comes to extensions it has no handler for. This is also the cause of the famous ".tar.tar" archive... GJ, Microsoft!

Thanks for the help

I tried it last night and all seemed to go fine, just I am wanting to set up my server as a LAN only. When I execute the file to start the server, I see that it is trying to connect to the web. I am sure that the solution sits in the .ini file, but I don't know what to change.
Any ideas - ie, I just want my server to be on a LAN at home and not available to the web.

Thanks once again

Yes, the solution sits in the ini file... I'm not within reach of my UT2k3 ini right now but IIRC you'll find the entries if you search for "uplink" (case insensitive). They're pretty selfexplanatory.
