Freaky,
What kind of connection do you have?

ping is your connection speed. it has little to do with ur pc. I myself have a modem :( , which gives me a ping of 150 - 300 average. if your pc has low specs, it will even be more "shoking" to play. if you want a low ping, get a better connection.

Yeah, PC specs don't bring you ping down, connection speeds does that. PC specs bring your FPS down/up.
High Ping = Bad:(
Hihg FPS = Good:D

no, ping is totally unrelated to your system specs, it depends soley on your internet connection. If you are getting low fps, (check by typing "stat fps" (w/o quotes) in the console (bring down by pressing ~)) more ram will help. Especially, assuming you are running winxp, another 256 MB will help performance alot. You probably dont have an 850 mobo, so you can probably get a cheap stick of (ddr?) sdram for under $40. I have a ti4600 vid, 512 MB rdram and a p4 2ghz norwood, and i get good fps, so the ram is your main bottleneck.

:D sorted i'll get a 512ddr this weekend.
then get a better g/card later.....
just one last question, i noticed on a few servers i have to download the map's, i gather these are custom maps to save me downloading every time (which takes me 20+ mins) is there any way to save them so you dont have to re-download.

there are many tools that can do this for you. Search on google for "unreal tournament 2003"+cache
or you can do it the hard way and convert the uxx files into their proper names by refering to the cache.ini

If you are running a geforce 4 graphics card you are fine there. Add the memory and seriously look for a better means of connecting to the net. DSL or cable would be a reasonable choice if either is available in your area.
Good luck

Gonna get more memory sat mornin....
the problem with goin upto broardband is cost. goin from 56k to 2meg would be unbelevable. it.s also 3 times the price. but as they say u get wat u pay 4..
i gather most of the people that play on-line are from th U.S. i've seen a few from germany and one from U.K.
so wats the average connection speed they use in the states.
and does it alter eveyone elses game play if i join a server with my sky high ping.....

no, your ping will not affect anyone else's. All your ping is is the time in ms it takes for a tcp ip frame to get from the server to you, or vise versa. So no one elses time would be changed because of your's, although they might see you jumping positions in the game because of the delay between you pressing move on your keyboard and the server processing that info and sending it to all the other clients
