I have been administering Half Life Mod servers for quite awhile and wanted to start with ut2k3.

I did my first install and started it up. First thing I noticed was how high my pings are. On the same machine with a HL mod of any sort my ping is 55-70 (from dallas to virginia ping). With UT2k3 it's allot hight. It's really weird in the server list it is usually above 100 and as I ping it the ping varies really widely. Anywhere from 80-130. Now when I go ingame it starts out high as usually settles around 80 or so. Maybe a little lower.

I thought maybe it was just me so I checked out a game host I play on thier servers sometimes. I usally ping from 30-40 in thier HL mod servers and thier ut2k3 servers are like 20-30ms above that. Also the lowest ping I can find from the server list is like mid 30's where as with HL I can find some in 20's.

So does the way the ut engine work just ping higher period? Is ping not as important in ut?

Forgive my nubness and thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks
Jeremy

UT2k3 ping is now calulated to included the time it takes to go through the server's processor. So if your internet ping is say 70, it will show up as 90 or more in UT2k3 browser..this number will be much higher if the server has low specs or is supporting a high player/bot load.

The other thing you must remember HL which uses the Quake Engine which uses a DOS ping.

If you want a direct comparison ping go into your Command Prompt (DOS Box) and Type:

ping ServerIPAddress
