ok.
-I can connect to my LAN and play just fine.
-I can see my server in the internet tabs for whatever game type I'm running.
-When I (or a friend) connect via the internet they get a black screen that says:
unreal://(my IP address)/Index.ut2
I've got a Linksys wireless 802.11b cable router
I've got all the necessary ports forwarded
I've got the "behind NAT" set to true
I can't figure out what's not working correctly. I just want to finish this so my friends can play on the internet.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? Tonight when I go home I'll attach my ini file so everyone can see what it looks like .... that might help.
I greatly appreciate any help. Heck... I work for M&M candies and if someone can get me working I'll even ship them a box of candy.
Thanks!

If you are behind your NAT you have to use the LAN tab to connect. If you are coming in from the outside (WAN), you use the respective game tab.

Yes Mike - you are correct. That is how I am doing it.
But my friends (not on my LAN) can't connect to the server from the game tab. That's the issue they are seeing. to specify... they do connect... but get the:
unreal://(my IP address)/Index.ut2
and it never loads a map or does anything. It will eventually time out after a while.

actually... does someone on here have a Linksys cable router that could post their settings so that I may verify mine are correct? I'm sure they are (from reading other posts) but it never hurts to double check.
Thanks

sucess ! i figured it out. My ini file was correct. on the port forewording section on my router there are 2 protocols that can be forworeded. I only had TCP/IP forworded - I had to check BOTH protocols on some of (or all if you just don't want to figure out which) the ports. The 2nd protocol is UDP. As soon as I checked these boxes I was able to connect and go right past the Index.ut2 screen and my map loaded. nice. something so stupid. Thanks for everyone who's helped me and not given me a hard time. This isn't exactly a plug and play program and it took a lot of help from you guys to be able to get it up and running on the internet.. If you want to stop by and check it out the server name is Twilight

Great news that you finally got it running but I have a question:
My DLINK router software only has 8 entries .... what are your port listings? ... i.e. T7777, U7777 ... etc.
Thanks,
-bi
EDIT: another question ... which tab did you configure thye port opening ... on the filter screen or virtual server?

i have 10 available slots to forword ports:
2 I use for another application. That leaves me with 8
7777
7778
7787
7788
11777
10777
28902
and the last one is the port I have setup for my web admin for UT2003 (this can be any open port)
But when setting up port forwording I have a checkbox for TCP and a checkbox for another protocol called UDP - I had to check both of these for the UT ports to get everything working. That was my problem. I just lucked out and tryed it.

I have linksys also:
I only foward ports 7777 thru 7779 for the IP of the server.
Thats all you need.

Advance tab then the Fowarding Tab.
Then put in 7777 to 7779, click on tcp and udp then click Enable, also dont forget to put the IP of the server. You can look at your DHCP Table to find out what IP your server is using.
Thats how you do it for Linksys, you have a Dlink?

This is basically how my setup looks... where X.X.X.X is the IP address of my server to forword to. Like Sproket said.. you probably don't have to forword all these ports... I'll actually take a screen capture tonight and mail it to you if you want.
7777 to 7777 / TCP UDP / X.X.X.X / Enabled
7778 to 7778 / TCP UDP / X.X.X.X / Enabled
7787 to 7787 / TCP UDP / X.X.X.X / Enabled
7788 to 7788 / TCP UDP / X.X.X.X / Enabled
11777 to 11777 / TCP UDP / X.X.X.X / Enabled
10777 to 10777 / TCP UDP / X.X.X.X / Enabled
28902 to 28902 / TCP UDP / X.X.X.X / Enabled
The key was (as you stated and I discovered) was to check BOTH protocols.... TCP and UDP. after I did that it worked.
