Right now I have a dedicated Retail GUI 2003 server. It runs pretty good but sometimes it gets lag and I have to reboot. The computer that it is on has some special Video editing hardware installed. The RT2000 by matrox, matter of fact.

My Question is what type of 2003 server are you running, GUI Retail or Unix based?
For the people using the Free Full Version Dedicated Server, how is it running for you?

I have read that there is some issue's with Unix 2003 server and windows computers. My friend had a Unix UT2003 server and then a GUI one and the GUI one was less problematic. Just my experience. Now I reach out for other opinions.

Thanks

all servers are identical, there is no diffirence between the dedicated server release and running a dedicated server with the retail client.
there is however a diffirence between a listen server and a dedicated server, but those are minimal.

It`s actually a Linux port. How good are you with networking / processes / scripts / cronjobs / iptables? If you have a good idea how to use that stuff then Linux is really the way to go. To some it may seem a little harder to get everything going in the beginning, but once it`s all set up -- just walk away.

I`ve been running Linux for UT exclusively for a long time, and its nice that (barring hardware failures) it stays up and performs nicely. Most people I know that run large amounts of servers use Linux -- good luck.

I have 4 Servers running in 4 different parts of the country and they are all using the free Dedicated UT2003 with W2K.

I used to have a Linux server up and it was very reliable etc, but people soon stopped playing on it, especially Clans and when I enquired about why this server is loosing popularity so fast I was told that it does not display the extended character list which many Nicknames are made up of these days.
I checked this and sure enough, the Nickname comes out as square blocks.
I'm not sure if there is a special setting for this or the newer versions have got around the problem but we eventually turned the server off as it became a cemetary.

GREAT Input!!
This is what I was looking for.

Im going to do a complete rebuild and use win2000 with the Free Full Version Dedicated Server.

I will take out the RT2000 editing system also.

Thanks

I will post results ina couple of weeks.

Well I did the rebuild and WOW way better. Everything is running smooth and fast.

Good decision to use the Free Dedicated windows server.
