Can anyone give me some boostdodging tips? I know what you're supposed to do, I've read many threads on the subject, and I've seen Mr. Brownstone's boostdodging chart thing, but I still can't boostdodge!

Also if you have a demo of a boostdodge that would be cool.

Try doing this for starters...load up a map that has a long, flat wall. Put your back flat against the wall. Hit forward/jump/forward/jump. That will execute a forward boost (dodge/jump/double/jump/whatever it's called - I call them all boost dodges). You should be able to tell if you hit it correctly because you will go much further than a normal dodge or jump.

After that, you can try doing side boosts and moving boosts - just remember that the movement key is always going to be the one that is the opposite direction of the wall you are in contact with.

Within the settings you can also alter the dodge double-tap time. By default it's set to 0.25 secs, try upping it to 0.40 that means you now have 0.40 seconds in which to tap strafe-jump-strafe For a sideways boost dodge), instead of 0.25.

Once you get the hang of the process then start reducing the timing.

Heh, i am crazy with boost dodges, but i have my dodge double tap time up to 1.00 lol

Go to unrealplayground.com and download W@RLOCK's CTF-CheckMateV2 and in the bases and hallways you can boost dodge EVERYWHERE in that level...

Lol, well that will work, right up until you play CTF-Citadel and you want to get to the edge of the LG tower for sniping, and accidentally dodge yourself into space.

Yes, thats the way it seems, but you'r fingers will adjust VERY quickly with it... don't worry

One question........ what in the hell is boost dodging?

It's the next step up from dodge-jumping.

dodge = strafe-strafe (within double-tap time, i.e. 0.25 secs by default)
dodge-jump = strafe-strafe .... jump
boost-dodge = strafe-jump-strafe (within double-tap time, i.e. 0.25 secs by default) but you must do it while next to a wall, and dodging away from it.

Combine the boost-dodge with a lift jump and MAN-oh-MAN.

Should that not read:

boost-dodge = strafe-jump-strafe-jump
needs to be done quickly

Only if you want a boost-dodge with an additional jump mid-way, and who wouldn't eh?

You're right in that you typically do use the additional jump, for height/distance (for instance, getting the small shield in asbestos from the lower platform), but it's not actually mandatory.

If you're using boost-dodges regularly (for instance in Insta CTF to get back to base as quickly as possible with the flag), you may want to avoid the extra jump cos it gives more in-air time, which = more time for an enemy to line up a shot.

You can also boost-dodge off walls.

Eg.
- Jump at a wall like your going to wall-dodge
- Press strafe + jump + strafe real darn fast

Floor boost-dodge: More distance
Wall boost-dodge: More height

I made a DM map to practice fragging botties, named DM-]SP[TrickJumpArena, while jumping over their heads. You can find it in the Maps section of our web-site.
