I saw some static mesh on 3d cafe web site and i was wounder the best way to convet them into a file format that unreal Ed can understand.I dont have the money or the time to Dl free stuff so if ya can.And after i put them into the level was the right way to save them so i dont get errors when people try and use it as well as not getting those Save boxes after i close out unreal ed.

thanks alot.

Whoa there, Zach..
Slow down a sec.

1) What exactly are you trying to do?
2) Why are you doing it?
3) What kind of assistance do you need?

I got lost in your above post right after ".. file format that unreal Ed can understand".

Could ya re-word it a bit?

hehe well as far as i understand it, he means that,

1. he found a site with 3d models.
2. he doesnt know how import or convert them for ued use.
3. he also wants to know how to save his new meshes in the myLevel package.

anyway, no1 can help you m8 without giving us the file format of the models u found.

First off, the LWO format ones will import directly - a lot of the better models on 3DCafe are available in both formats.

However, you'll still need a 3D package of some kind if you're planning to use these properly in UT2003 maps. For one thing, the scaling is way off - this isn't fatal as you can resize them in Ued, but it's annoying. For another, most free models don't come with proper UV maps and skins, so you'll need to have the ability to play with the skin mapping inside a 3D package before transferring them to the editor.

and then remember you really should have the authors permission to use it in your map, and a credit in the readme to them.

Try milkshape (http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/) for the texturing (since its free). it should import 3ds and export lwo.
