Hey everyone,
Well, I'm in need of a lead programmer rather desperately at this point in time. In the past few months I have been reading tutorials, and discussing this project with many people including programmers. I currently have to assistant programmers who are willing to help teach the lead programmer anything he needs to know if they need someone to ask. I also have a couple of music artists and a friend of mine who is the leader of a band called SwitchBack owns a studio in Utah and is willing to help assist in music and in sound effects. I have also talked to GLmax who created a nice chat interface for Descent 3 and he is interested in setting his program up so that it will run with UT2003. What is Plague Arena? Well, it is a mod for UT2003 slightly based on the Descent series. However, it revolves around it's own story line and universe. Basically, I hope to transform it into a full blown game one day. However, that will be a long time from now. Probably 2 or 3 years before I even begin to consider building it.
Why don't I program it?
Because I currently do not have the skills to program. I hope to eventually gain these skills and I am currently trying to learn how to create a 2D game in Visual Basic. I currently know html but that doesn't count really as programming skills and I am also learning Java Script.
What am I able to provide for the programmer to work with?
I have pictures, complete models including a 4,600 poly ship with 1024X1024 32 bit bitmap textures, a website that I myself hand coded in html, game documents and layout, concept art, charts, HUD concept art/ideas, and graphics. Other members of the team also can provide other required materials such as music, sound effects (which I will also be working on), chat interface, and levels. If people would also like a database, I'm also willing to create one.
Is there money involved?
No, being that this is a mod, it is all in fun.
What type of mod is it? Mutator or Game Mode?
Mutator if possible. This way, we don't have to build individual game modes for team play. However, levels will need to built specifically for this project to keep everything to proper scale. We can create game modes but I think that a mutator would probably appeal more to people.
How much work will this involve?
Probably quite a bit. Remember though, time is not important, quality is. You have many elements of flight that you have to consider. But have fun and feel free to experiment with different ideas if you like during the process. This project isn't modeled after any title that I know of so we are free to try new things.
How legit is this project?
It isn't modeled after any known title as stated above so there shouldn't be a problem.
How much influence, will I have on this project?
We are very open with this project and are willing to try new things. New ideas are always welcome.
What is a good example of the type of physics I hope that we can create:
Here is a game engine demo that shows similar physics to the ones that I hope that we can develop, make sure that it is the ship demo that you download:
http://www.fly3d.com.br/download/index.htm
Are there some examples of you're work?
Yes, my current website can be found here:
http://usa.internations.net/sonicstorm/ThePlague.html
Some other examples of my modeling skills:
http://usa.internations.net/sonicstorm/Examples.html
A couple of extremely early pictures of the Infiltrator planned for Plague Arena:
http://usa.internations.net/sonicstorm/Current.html
It is now about 3-5 times more detailed that that picture shows.
Note: These pictures barely touch on what I have been developeing for this mod.
If anyone has any more questions, please post them here and I will try to give you the best answer I can provide.
