Edit: I thought some screenies wouldn't hurt either, and I'd also like to state that I have nothing to do with the mod, just had to share it with you all.

Sorry, I can't chill my enthusiasm about this mod. It's a TC for UT2k3, a realmod. In the first release there are a bunch of weapons, three maps, a gokart, a snowman whose hat can be shot off, some fuel containars which can be shot and lift off to the sky. At least that's what I can remember.

This mod is really cool. Yes, it's a "realism" mod, but it feels more arcade like, and the weapons are fun to use.

Grenade Launcher = best weapon ever. Three different ways to blow stuff up.

There are some screenshots to go around, but seriously, it's worth a shot. It's relatively small compared to other TC's that are being released, and it's all quality. :)

It definelty has potential. the gun sounds are great mostly and the flare gun is freakin priceless lol. also they were able to get the teargas effect down and some very kool use of medkit/ammo stations. weapon models are very well done and the grenade launcher is TONS of fun. try the Flame nades

The weak point of this release to me is the maps. Either to laggy, to small or to dark.

But its a keeper alright. I highly suggest everyone download it

I agree, although I think it wouldn't be so bad if the few servers out there didn't have Battlecry on an infinite loop.

Takaban is a sweet map though.

that dark map sucks, but the weapon models and animations are great

much better than any other ut2003 mod

he did it well, and he was the first to do it for ut2003. its a given that we'll get these realistic mods, and this is a good one, all by one guy.

so far it seems like its you vs. this guy in the mod contest. everything else sucks so far.

I wasn't particularly impressed by Jungle Warfare and that was basically CounterStrike in the jungle, so I wasn't looking forward to this CS-style mod either, but I gave it a go and actually it's quite fun.

The Takaban map is pretty good and I like the feel of the weapons too. It's not an amazing mod, it's pretty unoriginal and I won't be playing it for very long, but it's not bad at what it does.

Out of this current batch of mods I think Conquest Marines is the best so far, it's maybe not quite as polished as these other mods but it's definitely a lot more interesting and also not just another CS clone.

This mod feels very proffessionaly made. :)
The weapons feel like real, much better than TO ever did.
The effect, HUD and other are just awesome.

The only pitfall for this would be if you play this mod on slow speed like 50%.
If played at 100% it's fun, but on less is just annoying. Please dont make the same mistakes as TO did, i.e. ruin the gameplay with slow movement.

there will be 1200 in a couple months. ;)

Anyway, I thought this mod was well done, but someone NEEDS to show the guy how to optimize his maps.
( /me pokes Teddie in the arm )

There is no excuse for the low performance in that Takaban map, and I bet the others could be vastly improved as well.

I wasn't that impressed either, uninstalled after a few go's.
Its just like playing 2k3 with real life guns and no dodge/double jumps, i think the maps really dont suit the type of game it is trying to be.
Its brilliant for a 1 man 'team' though :up:

Too be completly honest here, I dont see deathball being that original. a giant box for the maps doesnt impress me at all, but the gameplay makes that the only type that works I presume (its been done for MANY years).

crits:

1) i wish the maps would be a bit smaller .... thats a fatal misstake for a mod with slower players than the original game U HAVE TO BUIDL SMALLER MAPS ! people hate running around for hours.

ok the maps are not "that" big but i am sure for the next beta releases there will be alot of REAL MAPS with 100% costum content ! and they better shoudl be small ;)

3)the player models are very similiar in action its difficult to hit the right person ;)

2) the ragdolls have ways to less "MASS" they must get sucked down to the floor immediatly !


Pro:

1)skins are not to noisy ... but strongly highlighted ... I LIKE THAT :D

2)alot of interaktion with enviroment ... health and ammo charger gas barrels fire extingushier .... karts ;)

3)weapon soudns are extremly cool :)




overall very nice best mod for ut so far but it COULD BE WAYS better ;) easyily :)

FYI, the game defaults to 50% game speed for some reason.
Be sure to crank it to 100% next time.

This doesn't fix the floaty ragdolls though.

I wish he would have posted a suggestion for the ragdoll setting :bulb: I dont know to make it higher or lower.

I used to think the ragdolls were kinda silly, but when you get it on the right gamespeed, the flying ragdolls really kinda give a sense of "movie physics" rather than "real physics". I wonder if this is intentional, and if the mod will continue toward this style.

The only thing that bothers me is the fact that every time I get killed (happens a lot) random extremities pop off (not counting headshots, of course). It also happens in 2k3 deathmatch, but doesn't seem to make sense that every time I get a chest full of lead my right leg pops off.

Downloaded this mod today and everything looks very very good, except for one thing that almost drove me crazy and made me stop playing it after not to long time. The problem is the speed. Is there something wrong with my installation cos everything goes in slow motion?

Walking, reloading, people dying (looks like they float in water when shot, even when in mid air). I hope it`s not supposed to be like this. Is there som kind of adjustements to make it run faster? Please tell me so cos this is too good looking to be ruined by something like this.

There's a bug that makes the gamespeed default to 50%. Stick it on 100.

How do i start this Mod on a Linux-machine?

The author seems to know nothing about Linux:


-Mac and Linux users have to manually create their shortcut files with the following command
line parameters:

2) The game is set this way for a reason. This isn't normal "un at ungodly speed never tiring out" Deathmatch. This is suposed to be an arcade sim. If you notice, 50% is basically close to human walking speed. In a real battle do troops (let alone Special Ops) run around like they are running the 100 yd. dash??

yes, they do if it is to save their lives.
maybe the right way would be to turn "running" of by default, so you have to press an extra key to run.

the other thing would be: your footsteps should be heard when you are running, but should not be heard if you are walking.. like the way it its done in Counter Strike :bulb:
(or is this thing already integrated? didn#t manage to start this mod yet)

Well, it`s not just that the walking/running speed is slow. That I probably can cope with. The problem the way I see it, is that the whole game runs at 50% (as you call it). That means reloading, shooting and players dying acts unnatural and ANNOYINGLY slow! If it had only been the walking/running speed which was "tuned down" it would probably not be that annoying. It`s the whole package beeing in slow motion that I don`t like.

I would also apreciate if someone could tell me how to crack it up to 100%. I have not tried looking for this so is it a meny in the game or do I manually have to change some scripts? If scripts then please tell me how to do it

Just go into the menus and change the gamespeed :bulb: It's just like UT2k3...

It was set to 50% by accident in this release. That's all. It's not supposed to be on 50% it was just an accident in the defaul settings.

First, Hey sparky, whats up.

Second, I did a "slomo .1" in the console and just watched the animations for the guns, like reload, fire, secondary fires e.t.c and am totaly impressed.

The attention to detail is awesome. when you change the fire mode on the "MP5" the actual switch (w/line indicator) changes to the proper position and the way its clicked and moved by the thumb is perfect. its quite amazing the models and animations.

Normally people would make one animation for switching of fire modes, but he has one for each mode. and moves like it would in real life basicly.

Take a look for yourself, its hard to see the subtlies in normal speed. Kodos to Hegi?

I'm really impressed with this guy's work.

"one-man" did this. Jeez.

I wonder if this will be the mod that converts my older son from CS to UT2003, or rather (the UT2k3 engine)?

We'll see. He hasn't tried it yet.

it shows up in the game types, but when K selects one, it doesn't show any maps even though K can see them in the FACEOFF/MAPS folder =[

is that where they should be?


*EDIT* never mind - K found out how to play it - you have to find the FaceOff.bat file in the FACEOFF folder (incase you didn't know this already) =]

Yeah.

But I'm going to remove the UT2003 specific pickups and add the health and ammo cabinets.

Some of the bot pathing needs to be tweaked because of the lack of double jump.

but this mod needs more maps
so i myself add a small mutator which remove all pickups from normal DM maps:D
