I am having a problem accessing my new UT2003_dedicated Linux Server. I can join the game as a player if no one else is on the server. However, If I join when someone is already on the server, I start as a spectator instead of a player. I am not clicking the "spectator" button, but rather the "join" button to access the game. I'm not sure if it is the server or my client. I see others accessing my servers with no problem. So I suspect it is my client somehow. Thanks for you help!

Not so suprising, I have the same problem as you have on my Mac network. I've read where a large number of UTer's are sharing this disappointment. One suggestion was to disarm any network/internet/OSX firewalls - that didn't work for me. Check the "filter" options in your multiplayer setup - I did the obvious to be least secured but to no avail. I've singularly tried every option in setup (turning on and off) but to no avail. If someone is doing this on a Mac/Linux network with some success it would be worth unmentionable hales from the UT platform including Epic/Atari. I've looked everywhere - and nowhere does there seem to be an answer! If I find out anything I'll post it right away (as I hope you will)...

I thought I was alone on this issue. I have installed the previous version of the server on another linux box with no such incidence. I firmly believe the problem lies within the 2225 version of the server release. I hope epic puts out another release to fix these problems. Otherwise, I will stick with the earlier version.

Thanks again! Let me know what you find out!

They've posted a few new patches. I'm going to try them and see if it helps to relieve our problem. Let me know if you have any luck!

I have the same problem on my LAN. My server is the free, dedicated v2225 on WinNT. I connect fine from my PC, but 3 colleagues on Macs can't connect properly on certain maps (but not all maps). They load the map, but can only fly around it. It's not really spectating, as they do not see/hear other players when the game is running and they do not see others on the scoreboard.

I contacted MacSoft tech support, and they acknowledged the problem, stated they are working on a fix, and suggested a work-around. Sadly, this work-around didn't work for me, but here it is (in case it works for you):

It appears to be related to having the "Collect Stats" option enabled on the server. The workaround that we have for the moment is for both clients and servers to delete their preference folders in the /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support folder, and then reconfigure the game. The server should leave "Collect Stats" disabled. Note they assumed that the server was a Mac too (I told them it was WinNT). I tried trashing my server .INI file and having UT2003 build a new default one, but this didn't help, even when I explicitly disabled stats collection.

The other thing that helps is for the clients to join using the "Favorites" tab, and to enter the IP address of the server. If they are joining via the Internet, they can see your IP address by trying to join normally and writing down the IP address listed on the black screen prior to entering the online game. My Mac players always connect via "Favorites", as I do not broadcast my server on the LAN.

I replied to MacSoft tech support yesterday, telling them that I still have the problem. I haven't heard back yet, but I will post anything interesting here.

I have remedied this problem, but don't have a clue as to how. I was bummed out with the whole UT03 experience and dumped it off both G4's in my network. Then after a few days decided I might have been a little hasty and decided to reload them again. And for whatever reason it worked. I'm still dumbfounded as to why, but they both work in and out of the Lan. Now I'm afraid to do any tweeking (for better performance or upgrades or new levels) for fear it will fail again. If anyone gets to the true source or finds out about a patch I would be most grateful. And thanks for participating!
