Hello everyone:

I have been quite interested in hosting a server off of my computer for a while... i have a good and solid DSL connection that almost NEVER goes down... out of the 1 and a half years i've had it it has gone down once becuase something went wrong at the company... the phone lines were shut down becuase lightning hit one of the posts and the internet still worker PERFECTLY...

But i have wanted to host a small couple person server for me and some of my freinds for a while, but it doesnt seem to want to work... i havent tried seeing if it works lately... does anyone know why it wouldnt work? It would show up, but when they tried to enter it would just say on a black screen in white writing someing/My IP Address/somethingelse and wouldnt open it just satyed like that, even though i was in my server and it was running perfectly.

Also can someone give me a list of admin commands?

Not knowing how you have your server or network is configured, I'm guessing you are trying to connect to your external IP and something is looping.. The server is trying to respond to the client IP which is the same as the IP the server is running on..

Use the LAN tab to connect to your own server.

As for the command lists, been here? www.unrealadmin.org

What that means is that you have given no information about your setup, server ini, command line, etc...............

Unfortunetly I'm pretty slow... and i don't know what the command line is, or what "setup" you'r talking about... but I am on a router that is divided up to three computers, me being the second, so if that helps any I'm not sure, I'm also on a "Fast Access DSL" so if there is OTHER information you needed please let me know :(

You REALLY need to check out Unreal Admin (http://www.unrealadmin.org/modules.php?name=Sections&op=listarticles&secid=5) . Nobody is going to hold you hand on this. Do a little research/reading yourself.

if you are on a router...you'll need to verify you have also opened the correct ports if you intend for you friends to connect from outside your LAN..

Ok, yes im on a router... the head computer (which is not me) is running windows ME do you know how to check the port settings on that operating system? and would the router having a built in firewall like all others have anything to do with it?

it is the router itself that you need to open the ports on...it should have a webinterface to make settings changes...refer to manual or your network admin..

Ok, It's a "Cayman" DSL router, a maximum of 4 cables can come out of it, I am NOT the head computer, but i am hoping thats all the information that you needed like that, but i am looking to host about a 6-8 person server, something around there... becuase i think thas what mynet can handle... how do i open and close ports? so i can host the server?

are you able to login to the router? If you don't have privaleges into the router config...you won't be able to make necessary changes..

i'll try to do some research on that router and see if i can't get a step by step on port forwarding on it...

Ok, I'm gonna take a guess with that one and it means that i HAVE TO be ABLE to take off the routers firewall, and if i can it means that the head computer HAS the adminastrative privilages...

Also, what is about a good amount of ports to have open¿ Well at least if i were to host a good 6 to 8 person server¿

the ports open isn't really related to the number of players you are supporting...that is more critical when it comes to maxnetspeed etc... please visit www.unrealadmin.org before you try to do too much..they have great tutorials on starting and configuring servers..

this is where the caymen specific stuff is..not know the model of your router...i can't be of much more help...but this FAQ talks of pinholes..which seems similar to the port forwarding i do on my Linksys...give it a shot and/or reply with more info on the router..good luck
