Whats the point of a Server Key?

Whats the point of entering a server key if my server appears on the public list anyways also the e-mail i got for the server key said:

For Windows servers, save the attached UT2003_Server_CD_Key.reg and upload it to your dedicated server. Once it's there, double-click it to install it in the Windows registry

How exactly do i do that any1 can help?

k its a bit of a newbie question but hey no one knows everything any1 can help?

What happens when you double click the file? That's is how you enter the key into the Registry. Are you using NT?

*cough* *cough* doing that would replace it with my ut2k3 key some1 else did that mistake thats why im asking if any1 else knows of clicking on it after its been uploaded on the server......

I guess the way I took it was if you have the server running on the machine you will be playing on, then you dont need the new CD key. I have my server running off of regular Cable in my basement, but I used the Dedicated Stand-Alone Server to host the game. Without that server key, I wouldn't be able to host it.

Basically, I think you need the server key if you are running the Dedicated Stand-Alone Server.

If you want complete/correct answers, ask the correct question. You didn't say that you had the retail game already installed. You can only have one CD Key installed.

Thnx Jaspeer ur right i'm running my T1 server off my comp i play ut2k3 with so i guess i dont need that key.

I find no problems running it on the same comp as i play but i still hear ppl using different comps to host their servers on why is that?

Sure it's a late hit after the whistle, but you do realize that beyond the key issue, installing the dedicated server package is even more redundant? That package is a stripped down version of the retail game. You can use the same "ucc server <mapname>... etc" commandline with your retail version.
