This is my first post in the Server Admin forum, and I hope this is the right place to ask. I tried to host a multiplayer game, non-dedicated, on my computer. When others try to connect, they apparently can't get past the connection screen (the one before the map title appears as it loads). My computer is behind a router and a firewall. Disabling the firewall did not help, so I suspect it is due to the router. Can anyone please tell me the steps I must take to remedy this, or offer insight? Assistance appreciated.

There is a bug with NAT and the ingame browser. Try from GS or ASE instead.

The bug is explained among other places here -->http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=234947

Thanks for the reply, Ape. I browsed over that thread you referenced... I followed as best I could, but what I got out of it is that I'm basically out of luck since I'm behind a router, or at least since I'm behind my particular router.

If you would, would you spell out NAT, AS, and GSE for me, and maybe tell me what they do (if it's not blatantly self-explanatory)? I'm a n00b when it comes to server issues. Thanks.

Unfortunately, yes. We're all out of luck until Epic fixes this issue...

NAT=Network Address Translation
A technique that let multiple computer share a single IP-address.
Look at http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/556/nat-cisco.shtml or search Google for more info.

GS=Gamespy [browser]
That shouldn't require further explanation. :)

ASE=All-Seeing Eye [browser]
A "rival" gameserver browser. see http://www.udpsoft.com/eye/
