I get this error message when I try and log on to play multi player

I get Authentication failed when ever I try to log on to the network.
How do I fix this?

Is this something with the software or is it a serial key thing?

Do you think someone generated MY cd key?

If so how can I get a new one? I can't return it because I have had it for a few months now and I just decided to play online a few days ago.
