It was everyone vs. everyone. poor countries fighting stronger ones for the energy. a long time ago in an early review i remember seeing somthing about e-day happening in the game, while the player was fighting a human war, so in reality you werent just fighting demonic mole people, you were fighting a war for energy as well.

but now it looks like theres peace after e-day, and everyone unites to save humanity. either way theres war and guns and demonic things and i like it...

i know it was everyone vs everyone, but if the COG were one countries army who were the other countries armies, will be ever see them in the game? b/c cliffy said that all the ppl of sera have to unit to fight the locust, so maybe their will be more armies.....

In the destroyed beauty booklet it gives the history of the COG, I believe they were originally just a political party of sorts made up of politicians,senators from different nations striving for unity, they started to play a more active role during the Imulsion Wars, gaining more support as people were getting fed up with the fighting, kind of becoming like the UN. Then E-day happened, everyone else didn't know what the **** and was running around with their heads cut off COG stepped up to the challenge of leading and defending humanity in their last stand against the Horde.

Oh and I just now noticed on the front page there's also an excellent Q&A with Eric Nylund, narrative consultant for the GOW story that talks about the COG as well.

As mentioned above, regions fought against other regions of their own kind for energy coming from the immulsions. Maybe it was the perfect time for the Locust to attack or maybe mankind was more prepared for this after all the fighting against their own kin.

Did the Locust come out on different parts of the planet or that one city, and then take over.

Umm I thought they were just fighting each other before E-day, and there are no different races of Serans, they aren't aliens. They are using Sera as the backdrop for Gears because they didn't want to have to recreate real life areas like New York, they wanted to take the art direction their own way. So before E-day you had countries fighting other countries, nothing sci-fi going on here, then when the Locust strike the Coalition of Ordered Goverments, or COG, is formed from the remaining nations to fight off the new threat.
