I'm setting here thinking to myself and listening to the oldies play over my babies monitor, while running through these forums, and seeing all the excitement people have and the high expectations for this game and I can't help but hear that classic line from Pulp Fiction, I think it goes something like "Lets don't start sucking each others d**k just yet."
I remember seeing a game by the name of Brute Force and telling all my none Xbox buds about how sweet it was going to be and getting myself all pumped up and telling them how great the co-op and deathmatch play was going to be. I think we played it together about 4 times and I still get that rubbed in my face from time to time. It was far from a horrible game, but even farther from the masterpeice I and others had built it up to be at the time.
I remember another game called Halo 2 that was going to split the world in half and cover the core of my being with molten lava, and once again I got a solid game with great online play, but for gods sake it had a little shop of horrors plant and a joke of an ending! The online WAS the best part of Halo 2 no doubt, but that quickly came to an end with modders.
I'm not trying to start a big disscusion about the above mentioned games I'm just saying maybe we, or I least I should try a more laid back and less "d**k sucking" approach to Gears of War........................
And then after it finally comes out and I put that super omega disc in my 360 and fire it up and the thunder of raw power blows me back into the couch and the world splits into four and angels with chainsaw blades fall from the sky and carry me away to chainsaw heaven, then I'll start suckin away! ;)

That didnt happen? :) The thing you need to remember is that EPIC is making it. Not bungie or Digital Anvil, EPIC has always produced quality games and to be hounest the hype isnt the same. Everything we are excited about has been 100% confirmed and weve seen in action. not to mention you cant find one bad review of the mulitplayer demo! :)

"Not to mention you cant find one bad review of the mulitplayer demo!"
I will not and can not beleive any of those reviews! They are all fake and the only way Epic can prove me wrong is to release a demo on the marketplace! I dare you Epic! You hear me Epic! Cliffy! Anyone there in the office! (Shakes fist at the sky looking for those chainsaw angels) I dare you to put that demo on the marketplace and prove me wrong! :)

To be honest, Halo2 was setting the climax for Halo3. Halo2 was the bridging story of bringing the fight to Earth. It wasn't too bad either, it showed the storyline from the covenant too, about the civil unrest and the short alliances...
Halo storyline at the time I thought was really cool, an extra-terrestrial satellite, with a hidden "religious" meaning. It reminds me of the bible (and many other religious texts), the fact that people/covenent use it as a means to propogate their believe and substaniate their faith although unwarrented. There's a lot of subtle hints that inevitbly, this is the source of death/war- a jihad if you will. Maybe i'm looking too hard into it, I thought it was a rather clever storyline.
Unreal storyline really sucked. I'm no writer, or sci-fi expert, but it was way below average. I'm trying to remember the storyline, but I can't, mainly because it has had no signficant impact on me. And UT... well that was mainly multiplayer styled modes- what the Q3A was for that franchise. Plus, there's so many spin-off of the Unreal franchise, I don't know what's going on.
On that note, I don't really like the Half life storyline either- too cliched, and too generic sci-fi. And the gameplay was pretty boring *shrug*
Gear of War, however, has me really interested. I love the whole comparision of humans (even in a fictional or parallel sense)- fighting for land domination because of a natural resource. It kinda makes you think, holy crap?? Didn't that just happen recently? (I urge you to listen to Right In Two by Tool if you don't get what I mean)
Then the Sci-Fi element and humility sets in, how we can survive together as brothers and sister against a common enemy- the human will to survive- our "need" to be on top of the food chain is being question, and we fight back.
Plus, a good old alien bash is what we need, there hasn't been a good alien bashing fps in a while!
Just my thoughts. GoW and Halo3 are top of my want lists, along with 99 Nights, Bioshock, and Too human.

Well said and thought out, but no need to worry. Epic is making this game, it is going to be 1337.
Just sit back and wait for Emergance Day. It's coming soon!!!

Haha, Brute Force. I'm trying to remember why it was hyped so much, like you said OP it wasn't horrible but there was something so blah about it that I can't quite put my finger on, it's probably just from the overexpectation built up for it.
But I'm not too worried about that being the case with Gears of War. The developers really seem to be putting their heart into the work for this, the gameplay looks fun, not to mention good impressions from those who've gotten a chance to play it, and it's got an interesting storyline backed by Eric Nylund.

Fortunatly. I would hate to try resisting the urge of downloading the demo from the marketplace when I want to experience the whole feeling in the original game with the full story.

Yea, thats the thing about demos, you want to play something so bad, but you don't want the big day experiance ruined.

Games that aren't as hyped generally do better other the long haul, as they have a hardcore following. Halo 2 is an exception to this, and Gears will be too.
Bungie had to release weekly updates, just to assure gamers about Halo 2.Epic are doing a good job of keeping major secrets and game modes under wraps. Eventually Emergence Day/Night will come and everyone will get the game, and realize it will change your life.
I like the fact the demo is not on XBL, i have spent so long playing the TDU demo i nearly got bored of the game.
