View Full Version : Epic as a MS first party...

I hope Epic can do for Microsoft in the U.S. what Square has done for Sony is Japan. I'm a 360 fanboy, I admit it. I want MS to succeed with the 360. The innovations with XBOX Live, the perfect controller, and the strong games line-up, has me wanting MS to succeed with this machine. And, I see what Square, Namco, Konami, and other Japanese companies are doing in Japan. They're purposefully not developing for the 360 because they want to see their homegrown company (sony) stay on top. I think Epic should continue to work with MS, and develop more original IP's and Gears of war sequels. I also think Epic's power in the industry rivals square's.
They may not have a FF type of game on their hands yet, but they have a lot of companies using their tools. GOW may be their Final Fantasy, their Halo...whatever you want to call it. Trust me, Gears is a lock to sell like hot cakes. And, I think they need MS and vice-versa. Gears of war will be the biggest game in terms of sales that this company has ever had. I would really enjoy it if they pulled a Konami and kept GOW exclusive to the 360 forever, and the 360 stays as their preferred development environment. Maybe not a true first party role, but very close. I think if they form a tight relationsihp heading into the future, they can ensure that MS wins....the question is, do they want them to?

I hope GoW does hit it big, and it most likely willl
But i gotta disagree that japanese companies are only developing for the PS3... Its all about previous experience... i gotta say the original xbox i never got that much entertainment with rather than the PS2. Konami's Kojima even said that if he made a Zone of enders 3, hed release it on the PS3 and the Xbox 360.... And Capcom is going all out for 360... Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Resident Evil 5 are coming out for the 360 and the developer of Devil May Cry 4 said he was developing it for the PS3, 360 and Wii. Namco has already announced they are working on a RPG exclusivly for the 360 cuz Frame City Killer was cancelled and they said they'res gonna be more games for the 360 coming out. Square... i dunno about them. There is also rumors that a Final Fantasy will be coming out for the 360 in the future... like a sidequest.
Japanese companies havent abandoned the 360, in fact they are still devleoping for it. Its the small developers in Japan that dont really want to develope for M$ cuz Sony IS Japanese.
Also FromSoftware, one of the best highly supports the Xbox 360.

Support is still relatively weak. Looking at what is out in Japan now. The situation looks bad. Konami shows MGS for PS3 every chance they can get. Meanwhile, they have nothing for 360. Square could bring the new FF to the 360, but they're choosing not to. Namco brough ridge racer over but refuses to bring their bread and butter, Tekken, to the 360. Sega said they will have VF 5 exclusively on the PS3.
The only company in Japan that seems to want the 360 to succeed is Capcom, like you said. All the props to them for that. They want to be their own company. They see an opportunity, and they don't see Japanese vs. American systems. They just see a powerful system and their creating one heck of a game for it (Lost Planet). Forgive me, but it's actually number 1 on my most wanted list with GOW being a close second.
I don't know....I just see those companies as zoning the 360 out because MS isn't a Japanese company. Or maybe I'm just overreacting...I don't know...

The games you speak of are all games that made it BIG on the Sony consoles. Like Final Fantasy, Tekken and of course Metal Gear (some have been on Nintendo systems too). But like i said, it still seems they support the 360 alittle. look at Konami in Winning Eleven and Rumble Roses. Namco like i said, are highly supporting the 360 from what i heard straight from the marketing team. Square i just think doesnt like M$ haha, but there are still quite a few japanese companies supporting the 360. Right now the PS3 does have Tekken 6... which ithink they can have cuz the game really doesnt look THAT good... but they do have the two major franchises, Metal Gear and Final Fantasy...
But just because these games are coming to the ps3 and not the 360 doesnt mean japanese support is near gone, Sony may have got Sega's Virtua Fighter but once again, its been mostly on the Sony platforms anyways. But theres Chromehounds, Sonic etc thats coming to the 360 too.
Sony just looks like they're picking a bunch of games that sold well on their other consoles and buying them out for exclusives... which is really good... but Microsoft is making more of an effort to get exclusive new franchises, something fresh, like Gears or Mass Effect, or Too Human.
Gah im rambling again... maybe its just cuz im sleepy ^_^

cool, nice to hear another viewpoint on this....my main point was and still is that MS and Epic should form a strong relationship because, if games like GOW is what comes out of their partnerships, then I want more of this....ya know.

I agree, although im still confused why Unreal Tournament 2007 is only on the PC and PS3... why not Xbox 360? is Epic only giving us Gears? which is good, but if Epic is only releasing Gears of War for the 360 because M$ came to them and bought an exclusive, then i'm alittle dissapointed.
But M$ and Epic should keep making Gears, weither its expansions through Xbox Live or even making sequels, make it a big series! hell make a novel, i'd buy it.
all i want is EPIC to produce for the 360 way more, and bring all games to the console, considering how awesome EPIC is...

I like how Cliffy B said his next game is gonna be Gears of War 2. I want this game to do amazing so they can get so much funding that the game will be out of this world. But they should take their time on it. (Like Gears of War 1) EPIC never rushes games. I think their the only game company that cares about its fans. Cliffy B said he wish he could make gears of war 20$ at launch. (actually he said all games should be this much)

I see Microsoft buying EPIC if Gears Of War sales just as well as halo(and I believe it will)

But I'm not sure if I see EPIC accepting. Although, they seem to have a much stronger relationship with MS than Sony. But I don't see EPIC getting bought out any time soon. It could have some big affects on how the U3 engine is licensed.

the U3 engine license will be fine Microsoft will just make sure every third party publisher who use it make there games for XB360 as well.Epic is also making a game for Sony so it will be pretty cool to see microsoft buy out epic and make money from a game on the PS3-LOL-hec sony owns 20% of square/Enix and they made money off of Microsoft when they released final fantasy for the xb360
