Keyboard not working in-game

Uhm, since installing the epic BP and the patch, my keyboard has stopped working in game. All I can do is bring up server info by using some of the Fnumber-keys.

I can´t move in game, I can´t use F10 to stop connecting to a server, an ´sometimes I can´t use CTRL + ALT + Del to exit the game.

same thing is happening to me, my keyboard move keys won't work, i can't shoot, i can click my fire button to join the game but i can't move or shoot in game. the mouse look doesn't work either, ex. when i move my mouse left or up or down or right i stay looking the same way. all this ever since i downloaded this free bonus pack yesterday.

Same here- am using Win98, latest NVIDIA drivers, AMD Athlon with latest VIA chipset drivers (446v). It was working before, now it's not. Oddly, I can use the keyboard in the opening menu, the fire button on the mouse works, and the spacebar works to jump- but beyond that once the map loads I'm looking at the deathmatch but can't either mouseview nor move.

I am having the same problem. It has only started since I installed the latest map pack.

Ditto here. Once the problem occurs, I can't play again on that server until the map switches. Mouse won't move or fire, i can bring down the console window, and f1 works.

When i try to "say" something, the text comes out white, and is not prefixed with my player name.

I can connect again to the server and everything is ok after the map switches.

I can play a local insta-game fine.

I believe I can connect to a different server and the problem is not there.

However, no matter how many times i try to reconnect to the problem server, im locked up. Restarting the game doesn't help and even rebooting doesn't help unless the map has had time to change.

Oh, and finally, even spec mode is crapped out.

In my ucc.log, I get a bunch of this:

same here. After installing the new patch and the new bonuspack this problem started, dont know if its due to the bonuspack or due to the new patch, but it sucks. No movement ingame, but i can use the mouse and keyboard in the menu. Please some1 do something about this

well, it would be a relief if some1 could tell what could solve this problem, the game is meant to be played with a mouse and a keyboard, but if they dont work :(

Hey guys...sorry that the Epic techs don't come to this forum very often, it's more Members Helping Members. They seem to spend more time in General, but this is the place for problems. Us others who try to help can only help with what we are familiar with, or if we have had the same problem and come up with a solution.

I'm just going to ramble out some basic stuff here (try any or all - no guarantees):

Try clearing out your CACHE folder.

Check your user.ini and ut2003.ini files. (You can also rename them and UT2003 will rebuild using default.ini and defuser.ini.)

Uninstall UT2003, reinstall and apply 2199 and the BP again. Check at each step (and make backups of the .ini files in between).

Grogzilla - it sounds as if the problem is with that one server, not your PC.

What I was getting at there is to try to find the point of failure (i.e. does it start with the patch or with the BP).

Did you install the BP from a regular zip file or a .exe which installs with a .ut2mod (there are different ones unfortunately)?

You may also want to post your system specs. (They may be in your signature if you have one. I don't know cuz I've turned displaying those off.)

tzzzzzz, I uderstand m8, this just sucks. the game works fine without the new patch & BP. After installing 1 of them the problem starts. NO MOUSE + KEYBOARD MOVEMENT!!.
Using old ini. files doesn't work! Maybe its that virus that is supposted to be in the unreal engine???.

No, it's not a "virus" in the unreal engine. Part of patch 2199 contains fixes for code that had the (remote) potential to be used for a DOS attack.

Perhaps it's something in your machine or the way you have things set up?

Why would I say that? Because there are hoards of other people who installed the patch and the BP and it works just fine. If this were a major bug you can bet your butt there would be major threads in the General Discussion forum and another patch would probably have been issued already to fix it.

You don't list any information that would be helpful for any kind of a diagnosis and it's tough for people to try to help without any info. I don't mean to be rude, but it's like trying to appraise a house that you've never seen.

I don't want to rub it in, but I haven't found any problems with the Patches or Bonus Packs. In fact nothing but good stuff since the releases.

What I would recommend though is not reinstalling the game, but if you're using a Cordless Keyboard and Mouse like myself I would recommend enabling USB support for Keyboard in your BIOS. If you're using P/S 2 for both then ignore this option.

Try downloading the Updates and Bonus packs from a different server then before. Empty your cash, and reinstall the patches and bonus pack.

Ok, I was @ patch 2217.

I had the problem last night on my server this time. Needless to say, I was fairly motivated to fix.

Again, here is the symptom: You are patched to latest beta, you connect fine to a server, play a few maps, then on the next map rotation, you appear to spawn, but cannot move. Until the map rotates again ON THAT SERVER, no matter if you reboot or restart UT2K3, or numerous reconnect attempts, you are stuck major.

You CAN connect to the server. However, you just sit there, with a half built HUD. Anything you "say" on the server comes out in white text without any Name prefixes or team color assignments. The only keys that appear to work are the console key and the scoreboard. FWIW: IF you have this problem, you don't have to ctrl-alt-del, just ~ to the console and type quit or disconnect.

I have now had this problem on a 2217 (or whatever latest beta is, im @ work) and a 2199 server (mine). Both server's were running UTSECURE 2.07 (hmmm).

Finally, as soon as the server travels to the next map, everything is A-OK.

Now, last night, when the problem happened 2 me on my server (2199 w/UTSECURE 2.07) I immediately downgraded my client to 2199. Reconnect to server. Everything is a-ok.

So, IMHO appears to possibly be an issue with UTSECURE2.07 and the 2217 patch.... Just to confuse the issue, both the server's have the bonus pack as well as my client.

No, the problem has never occured locally. Even in the midst of the problem with a server, I can always startup a local match and everything is fine. The first time I encountered this problem, I thought my mouse cord was disconnected. So i disconnected from the server, and shazzam, my mouse works.

Reconnect to SAME server before map has changed, mouse is FUBAR'd.

Reconnect to a DIFFERENT server, everything is A-OK.

Try again to connect to SAME server before map has changed, mouse is FUBAR'd. You can delete your cache directory and dial up Psychic Friends hotline, reboot and beat your dog. Until the map switches on the server, you aren't going to be playing on that server (if you have the latest 2217 patch + plus possibly UTSECURE2.07 on the server and/or Bonus Pack).

Now, I know you are just itchin to type "well just connect to another server if that one is giving you problems".

Bite me. I'm not a server hopper, I got league and ladder games to play :)

Oh and one final note.... The problem is definately sporadic and obviously requires some combination of elements before it surfaces. One reason why there aren't a 1000 peeps in here raising HELL is because not all server's are running the latest UTSECURE and not all clients are at the latest BETA.

If the problem is not caught and corrected, you can bet that when the next patch goes public, there's going to be a storm of inquiries on these forums.... IMHO....

Anyways, I already miss the latest patch, as it had several significant features and fixes.

I thought my keyboard was broken til I noticed that the "server info" key worked.

The most stupid thing is probably that CTRL + ALT + DEL doesn´t even work sometimes, so I gotta ALT+ TAB out, and then right-click to close the game. This is the only way for me to exit the game.

I'm curious to see if it has anything to do with server running the latest patch causing the problem. And the servers that aren't are running ok.

I certainly think that it's not a client issue since it doesn't happend locally. It might have to do something with the server patch.

This is only a suggestion don't MOOO me for it. :)

BTW, why don't you just hop to another server? :D

The best keyboard problem out there is on boot up, you'll get a message "Keyboard not present, press F1 to continue" :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

I too have this problem even when I first spawn.

Has anyone found a fix? I haven't been able to find a fix yet.... is there a way to bring this issue up to tech support?
