Okay.
I have been making my map for a few days now and it's coming along nicely.

All terrian and a few walls so far.

I have some problems though.
Everytime i subtract something the terrian disappears!. WHY!.

Also when i add fog in zoneinfo none shows.
And everytime i make a skybox with skyzone info in seperate box it doesnt show.

Yes i have been reading these of UDN turorials aswell.

Any1 got suggestions.

Thanx.

:p

move the terrain actor .. up or down 1/2 units .. that should fix it ...

also try waiting more that 10 mins for a reply ;)

Yeah sorry.
Just feeling impatient at the moment.

Tried the moving terrain actor with no luck though.
Even subtracting a cube for skybox outside and all terrain just onstanly dissapears.

did you check the skybox in the game??? cos it doesn't show by default in the editor. right click on the tool bar for your 3d view, w/ all of those boxes and where you can see the 3d view of the level.. :bulb: go to view => showbackdrop. taht *should* show the sky, as long as the serfaces that you want to show the sky have the tag "fake backdrop" to do this, right click on the surface, the flags tab should be selected, and click on fake backdrop.

then rebuild everything and try again...

what i mean by "rebuild everything" is hit the build all button at the top right, next to paths.

make sure your lights are fog lights, i forgot how to do that... there should be a tutorial explaining it. at least you had to do that for ut1, i dont' know about now, somebody correct me if i'm wrong.
the zone should obviously be selected as fog zone true, or somethinglike that. also make sure distance fog is check in the same place that show fake backdrop is in. it should be by default

my suggestion, is when your building your actual physical level first, build just the geometry, it's just a plain box for the icon, no light bulb. then once you have your geometry all built for your level, start working on lighting... at least that's what i did in ut1 :bulb:

hope this helped some :weird: :)
and good luck w/ the editor.. it's a pain

Ok.

Sorted out the Problem with the Subtracting and i even see the skybox now.
Still cant figure fog out yet though.

Also now i have a skybox it looks horrible and need to know how to get it to look normal as i need light in there but when i add light u get all these shadows happening and the join lines stand out!.

:p

ther is a way to fix the dark corners... but my editor just crashed so i have to reboot  i hate this stupid editor
i'm glad you can see the sky box

for some better skyboxes, you should search in google (www.google.com) for both:

UT2003 skybox tutorial
-and-
Unreal Tournament 2003 skybox tutorial

the reason for both, is that some sites abreviate it and some sites don't.
also, UT2k3 might be a good idea, if the other two dont' show up what your looking for.
i'll reboot and see how to fix the shadows, i forgot the name of the tag :bulb:

Don't use lights in the skybox, except for special effects. Make either the texture or the surfaces unlit, and adjust the texture until the brightness is correct.

If you can still see corners, try using one of the cylinders that Epic used for skyboxes - you'll find them in a couple of the Static Mesh packs or in the MyLevel of some of the maps. Add a moving cloud layer or something as a sheet which intersects the cylinder, to stop the join showing between the cylinder and the top of the cube.

Ok.

Things are getting better!
I am using same skybox as DOM-Suntemple and copy and pasted that Fog effect tube thing from there skybox into mine and it has worked but i can still see the lines although it is getting better.

Yep the textures are unlit aswell.
I also copied the fog info from suntemple to see if that would work but still doesn't in mine.

hmmmm.

Scale the skybox texture up a tiny bit (~1.01). That will hide the lines. You may need to pan the textures around a bit after that to get it centred again.

Alternatively, make the skybox a few units smaller than the texture, e.g. a 1022x1022x1022 cube for a 1024x1024 texture.

Hey... I just did a search about this topic. I'm getting the same problem what you had with the terrain, but mine is kinda weird cuz all I have done is the sustracted cube, the zone info and the terrain actor... if I stand in the midle of the cube and look around everything seems to be fine, but if I move to any corner and look straight to the distance, the terrain just disapear. I though it was a memory problem so I went to the store and bought one extra chip for a 512Mb total, but it didnt work. help me please.

Loosecontroll6, I would guess this is a common situation, I would say problem except it really isn't. I generally do have the terrain disappear after a few subtractions, sometimes rebuild geomentry works, sometime I have to build all to see it again; just a quirk of the editor I guess.

sorry but I have to insist... I did rebuild all and start the level to test it out. Should I do something else to have this problem fixed? maybe under terrain propierties? cuz the all terrain disapear and my caracter seems to be walking on the air ... ??? any help?

If you have terrain or skybox in your map and after that you substract a brush, the terrain and skybox will not be visible until you rebuild the level (don't know if this is a bug or not?). But if your terrain don't show even after the rebuild there is a posibility you created a BSP hole that encompass the terrain info so the terrain is there but is not visible. This can also happen after adding few big brushes (~8000 or more ED units) into the map.

Thanx.

Lol, problem was solved about 7 months ago though, as this thread was started at the beggining of the year.

Still, Desease has not solved his terrain problem.
Hm. I should have quoted him, tho. :)
