Would someone be interested in a mappack with all the remakings of the original UT games I can find?

So far I have 26 and a few more I need to download.

Tell me what you think of this idea?

I think that's a great idea. But since there are numerous remakes of some of the maps, maybe you could ask people to vote for their favourites. Or just choose the ones you like the best.

Awesome idea. I had thought it of it myself, but I decided there were just too man to remake ('cause not all current remakes are sufficient.) You'll need author perms, and when you think it's done, you need an insiders beta test to ensure that all of them are worthy. We don't want any ****ty remakes going down. I can truly dig this... if you want, you may use my DM-Malevolence-OLDKOOL map in it.

I could go on and on but I think it's a great idea. I like original maps .. but I like remakes as well.

This is what many of the maps are saying about permission:

"You are NOT allowed to commercially exploit this level, i.e. put it on a CD or any other electronic medium that is sold for money without my explicit permission!

You MAY distribute this level through any electronic network (Internet, FIDO, local BBS etc.), provided you include this file and leave the archive intact."

Generally I cant think of a reason why a mapauthor do not want his map played by the public, since all the maps are found on public servers and I only got positive feedback from those authors wich maps I add at www.utmr2003.dk, so I do not think it would be wrong not to ask.

The problem with asking is, that you have to have their email, wich is not the case for some of the maps, but the maps are still great maps.

I will ask some of the authors and check if they have something against the idea.

Cool, cool. How many of those 26 are as good, or nearly as good, as the originals? I personally think that if there are several remakes which both kick serious ass, both should be included. (Ie. Deck-16][ by CreepingDeath, and Deck-17 by Teddie)

So far I have seen excelent remaking, and taste is something that is hard to judge, so I do not think I skould be the judge if the remake is good or bad. Maybe someone finds a map good, that I do not.

I you go check my site (see link below utmr2003), you will see, that visitors can vote for the maps and even maps I find to be top of the line, someone voted far less.

Therefor I will just add all the maps adn let you judge for yourself.:)

I just re-read your post, and I think we should go out of our way to have some maps made just for this map pack. That would be truly pimp, and I bet it would recieve alot of attention. Then, afterward, we could release the ones made for the map pack individually, or maybe just release everything at once. When I say "we", I mean anyone in the community who's willing to help! :)

No offense to the mapper, but the DM-Stalward XL wasn't so awesome. Way too bland in lighting and texturing, bots weren't too awesome either. However, there was a normal DM-Stalwart remake somewhere out there that was pretty good. =)

I've seen a map tonight called DM-Tempest2k3b, but the rotation switched too soon and I've not finished downloading the map... Anyone has played it yet? A search with Google has given no result.

DM-Tempest IS the DM

The tempest one wasn't that good either... the texturing, if I remember well, was ****ty, and it was too small.

yes, do it, make a poll to find out, what maps the people want to have in this map pack.

well, authors can be contacted and maybe asked for some improvements (textures, lighting etc), or maybe someone can fix that for them,
anyway, what maps could be good for pack? Those with some changes or with original UT layout, or both ?

Absolutely not, why you people hold on to old things and not embrace the new is beyond me. Ask yourself, would you like to ride a bicycle that is 5 years old or one that is new? The new one of course. Know when to cut your loses and let these maps die gracefully.

I like the idea. Especially since many of UT2K3's original maps are just "updated" versions of original UT maps. I really wasn't all that impressed with Epic's job on that. Mostly because I found the "new" maps to be too cramped and you kept getting caught on corners and such. So, if someone were to release a mappack of really good maps from/based on the old game, it would make my UT2 gaming experience much better. There were a lot of great ideas for those maps and a lot of different great ideas for the new ones. Put 'em together and you have more fun. :)

Interesting, but you missed many remakes that are out there, including:

CTF-Hydro2004 or CTF-Hydro-16-2k3
CTF-Orbital-Classic2k3 or CTF-Orbital_Station2k4
CTF-Dreary-2k3
