Looke here peeps, both official and not.
I have about 25 god damm all original skins WAITING to be released for ut2003.
However I cant because of the pos that Upaint is.
It wont export to Unreal, all I get when I do try is the ini file which causes the skin to show up ingame BUT the skin is all white and the face is changed to default.
The reason is because the texture pack is NOT being created by upaint.
This is fecking infuriating and im tired of waiting for a god damm answer from right hemisphere who seem to NEVER check their emails.
I have ut2003 patched to the latest version as well as upaint, im running an xp system so what the feck is going on?
Dont ignore this thread either, if you have any clue PLEASE tell me.

I can only guess that the reason no-one has given you an answer is that they're not having the problem.
I'm not a skinner and if I was, I would work on the flats rather than use UPaint, but I have used it to transfer some skins that were done before the update into proper UTX/UPL format and it worked fine.
Is your UT2003 in an unusual directory? The only thing I can think is that UPaint is failing to find anywhere to put the UTX.

Also, if all else fails, you can always use UnrealEd to make up the texture packs. You might have to generate your own portraits from in-game shots, but the ones UPaint generates aren't that great anyway.

How can I do this?

I havnt used upaint at all, however when I installedd UT in a directory other than root C: and tried to load maps into ued it could not find the texture packs, i guess cause it was looking in c:UT2003\Textures and they were not there, does that make sense??? :bulb:
Edit :- although saying that the tex are held in the map file anyway arnt they? or is it just the data for the tex:confused: anyway safe to say ued didnt like it one bit.

I was told to always let a video game install to where it wants.
I screwed up UT once and server packages never worked right.

If you want to create your own texture packs and apply them to existing Unreal models, then do this:
First create your skins and save them off somewhere (like your desktop, they can't run very far from there ;) ). They should be saved in the .upt format.
Then go into Unreal and fire up the texture browser. In File click Import and select your file from whereever you saved it. In Package put whatever you want (you'll create a new .utx file by doing this) and in Name call the texture what you want (like myHead or myBody). Don't worry about Group. Click OK.
Now fire up the animation browser and load up the model that you used to create your texture on. Then at the far right side under the tab Mesh and then the category Skin, click on the first one (should be a 0 and a 1 to choose from). Usually 0 is the head. Make sure you have your texture selected in the texture browser, then click 'Use'. Your skin should show up on the guy/girl.
Hopefully this gets you where you wanna be so good luck and happy skinning!

Another cool thing I just noticed while playing around with it is the 'Export Character to Unreal' option in the File pulldown. I tried this and it created the texture package for me! It didn't give me a 'Save As' box so I could name it though, so it just called it what the package I pulled up. But it did put the package in the texture browser for me to check out. Nice!

HumanMagneto...
I've been meaning to add this to the FAQ at Frag Face for awhile now since it's come up so many times in the past, I just haven't been doing much with the site since I've been a bit disappointed in the way UT2003 uses skins, or should I say doesn't... anyway that's a whole 'nother story.
The problem you have described has happened to many people in the past. More than likely your problem is because you didn't install UT2003 into the c:\UT2003 folder. This shouldn't be a problem, but it is because for some reason Upaint only wants to put the .utx files it creates in c:\UT2003\textures.
Most people have simply reinstalled UT2003 in c:\UT2003. However, I have a theory that I think would work but I am unable to try it. Simply create the directory c:\UT2003\textures and see if Upaint creates the .utx file in that folder. If it does, then simply move that file to your real textures folder where ever that may be.
Hope this helps, and if it does please respond so that I know one way or another and I'll add that to the FAQ.

Hmm :sour:
No idea what's going on.
I'll tell you what though if you keep getting stuck you could mail your stuff to me and I'll do it for you :)
Nothing worse than things not working.

In fact it seems to be happy as long as the folder is root:\UT2003, I'm not sure whether root can be any drive or has to be your Windows partition. I have it in D:\UT2003 (where D is my Windows partition but NOT my boot partition) and UPaint has no problem with that.
