Dude, this map looks abso-****in-lutely amazing! GJ
The framerates were silky even on the highest settings, and the bots seemed to move about very well.
Not too sure whether the weapon placement and layout are good though, need to test that out in a 1v1 with a human player.
You should definetly submit this for the 0wnage award BTW
Peace.

@riZZen Maya my friend ... Maya !
@the gameplay sceptics ... i player it 1 on1 against a godlike bot and it was very funny and i kicked his ass ... its a little bit like king of the hill ... keep your ass with some good weapons on the rock in the middel and u controll everything :)
*submission done* ;)
*btw does anyone know how i disable the "recieve decals feature" for textures ?! ... a scrolling waterfall with black rocket holes looks very cheesy :D

I was a fan of your first, and im a fan of this. Great map. Im a maya user myself and can see you have some skills my friend.
And has anybody noticed that all the maps that are more or less custom built from the ground up like this one and modern history, run very fast and have great FPS. Might it be how the engine renders the 3d meshes..? i dont know any ideas..?

:) just played it, it's teh cool.
Lol and I even found out a new jump in this map, hehe I call it the combo jump :p
I was standing on such a thin ledge thingy and there was a bot beneath me trying to kill me.
Hehe the same sec I shoot my secondairy shock, the bot fires the primary and I get launched up in the air without losing any health or shield. Me wishes I demorecorded it :(
Anyway, this map is really cool, I'm already looking forward to your other maps and ehh btw what was your first map??

Congrats, you got ownage.
http://www.planetunreal.com/cliffyb/
"I'm a jaded son of a *****. You all know this. It really takes a lot to get me excited.
When this map was submitted I clicked on the link to the shots and, for the first time in a long time, actually said "wow" when the shot loaded. Visually, this map is that cool.
Crippled skyscrapers surround a bizarre ice pillar which, for some reason, has some crumbled castle bits on it, a huge bird's nest, and a stegosaurus skeleton. Don't ask. I think Warbeast has been hitting the hookah or somethin.
The name? Not very unique. Frozen. Wow. Luckily, the map is. Unique static meshes everywhere, mostly textured and composed nicely. Warbeast sure has dotted his i's and crossed his t's here.
The map plays decently. I think it will fail to impress some hardcore guys in this area. But UT was always about the mix between the gimmick maps that play OK and the hardcore flow maps that play amazingly well, so this map fits right in. "
~ CliffyB
Personally I think the map looks awesome, but the gameplay is just average. I think Ill just copy and paste what I'd posted on BuF:
"The layout is good, flows well, but I kept getting stuck on that skull meshes where you grab the rl. It is ok for trick jumps.
I don't like the idea of having a jumppad at the bottom of the waterfall, it's a nice idea for grabbing the keg and there's some risk for doing so, but the jumppad really feels out of place here.
Too little healthpacks for 4 players. I dislike the amp placements, i mean it's just there on the ground. Too easy to get, no risk involve, and that's not good. "
The good point about this map is the gorgeous visual. I was in awe when I first played, my jaw is still a little sore. :p
Good job.

Oh, and this map runs just as well as Modern History, don't let that worries you.
Almost forgot, with the jumppad, I can get to the top of the waterfall, I wonder if that's intentional? That's almost too good a sniper point.
This map even works pretty well 4on4. Only thing annoying me on this map is that damn skeleton lying around its a little to narrow when passing that one, but thats minor issue imo
I have found ways to get around anyway :D :D :D
Really sweet work on the visuals I gotta hand it to you great map.

legacy-Doctor7

Not worth ownage IMO. There are a couple of places where I got stuck - and one of them, the ledge on the building with the tree beside it, looked like an obvious place to jump from. Try it and you die.
Also, everything looks great from a distance but the towers are fairly low-poly with all the detail in the textures, which doesn't work so well close-up. Somewhat to my surprise, as a mapper I find that more detailed meshes with base textures work better (which is just as well as I'll be the first to admit I'm no texture artist ;) ).

I think we are just passing the turning point for custom UT2k3 maps. The Maps released recently are so full of quality. Unimaginable if it continiuous like this. Is there another Game that has such a professional Community. Its good to be a UT2k3 Fan.

A map that's either all BSP or all meshes does run well, I guess the engine is smart enough to skip the rendering routines entirely for actor types that aren't included.
Plus, a map like this has a lot less lights than a map with BSP(although I would expect that to affect build time and map size, not in-game FPS).

Bloody amazing map.
Nothing to complain about here, the looks, speed, gameplay and atmosphere in this map are incredible.
Just a tad nitpick however; on the little stream thing, maybe it should push players down if they stand on it, and maybe some splashes near the bottom.
Great job warbeast

 The new models and textures are worth the price of admission alone. This maybe your second map you have obviously been modeling and texturing for a while. I am green with envy. Why can't I model and texture this good?
However, Warbeast, next time you release a map compress all your textures to DXT 1. The RGB8 format is makeing the file twice as big as it should be!
Did you use the full version of Maya or PLE? with NURBS?

DTX 5 is a bit bigger but looks better IMHO.

THis map looks great and plays pretyty good too. Runs like a dream...
Only One nitpick;
the textures are rather low quality in a lot of areas, and next time you should associate detail textures with your textures especially if they are only of normal quality. Then we have some option to up the detail a little if you don't decide to make higher quality textures. Shudder creek was like this too. I guess two texture sets of different qualities are needed to achieve the two options of "normal" and "high" and I can see how that's a pain in the rear, but I hope mappers start doing it if they make thier own textures.
Still, the textures are good and everything else is great!
This far surpasses the latest version of Biohazard, which I thought was rather sub-par in all areas.
btw, Oscar ROCKS

Actually, you can't do that - well you can but you have to cheat. Normally UEd creates the MipMaps (lower detail versions) from your texture automatically. If you choose to display the MipMaps in Photoshop, edit them manually and then stop UEd from creating new ones, then in theory you could have hand-drawn 'normal' textures but otherwise you're stuck with the generated ones.
But the main problem is that hand-drawn textures at high resolution are a lot of work, so as with DM-2019, most of the custom textures in this map are 256x256 or less.
I've had a lot of success with my latest map by making the meshes more complex, and just using different base textures on them, instead of even trying to do skins.

So what your saying is, you need to make one set of textures at high res, and then UT adjusts them for the lower settings?
I see. Thanks. I am going to start making texture sets soon so I need to know that stuff. I want them to be really high res.
What is the resolution limit for UT2003 on texture sets?
legacy-Desperado#2-Rog
01-19-2003, 10:54 AM
the highest I have gone is 2048x2048. only two texs are that size.... not recommeneded at all IMHO... at least for the moment... many people still have vedio cards that can not handle anything bigger than 1024x1024 texs... so 2048 will either crash their systems, have wierd stuff on them..., or lag the map.
stick to 1024 if you really need 2048 x 2048 texs than keep them low in number only special textuers should be that big.

Warbeast, always use http://www.unrealplayground.com/ you register and then upload your maps from the web page and BAMN, your maps online and ready to go.
The best site online to host your maps period.
this is my page there and it shows how it even has a author page for people to just download your maps.
